Why don't you stop CST Howrah Duronto at Nagpur?

Nov 03 2009 (09:40PM)
1.1 Reply   Add Bookmark   Remove Post 0
Because this is "Duronto", by definition, this is a "non-stop" train. If it starts stopping at this station and that, then it is not a Duronto anymore.

@first blogger:
No commercial stops are kept in durontos.
The train is having Technical stop at Nagpur.
And hence if the circumstances demand and if you do not mind spending extra in ticket, it is possible. Means that one needs to buy ticket from Mumbai CST to Howrah only. Easy to get down at Nagpur as there is a technical halt.

The issue is not which is nice.... The blogger queried for a stop in Howrah duronto at Nagpur and straight way it is out of question. Being a technical stop at Nagpur, passenger has the getting down option with full ticket. The querist might also be thinking of a travel from Howrah to Nagpur and there is no duronto between these stations. Not an issue in selection.

Thanks, parineeta, for sharing your story. You were lucky to be unhurt and keep your handbag. As a rule, we need to shut all windows at night, since incidents like yours are very common. There are people in stations at night, specifically waiting for open train windows to steal things.

comesum, another restaurant having branches in Mughalsarai, Vijayawada, Lucknow, Nagpur etc also deliver food to the seats. Orders have to be given abt 2 hours in advance and seat and coach no. to be told. comesum website is comesum.com.
Even googling abt haldirams itarsi outlet yielded no result.
Their corporate office at mumbai number is 022-26170762/ 26130771
or contact website haldirams.com.
If you come to know about it, you can post the same here for other bloggers benefit.

YES I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO KNOW THE NO. FOR FOOD DELIVERY IN TRAIN BECAUSE FOOD SERVED BY IRCTC DOES NOT RETURN ITS COST IN TERMS OF QUANTITY & QUALITY, ITS NOT HYGIENIC ALSO, YOU CAN CHECK ANY TIME THIS IN PANTRY CAR OF ANY TRAIN,
SPECIALLY VEGETARIAN PEOPLE WILL NOT AWARE OF THE THING THAT THEY ARE USING SAME UTENSILS FOR MAKING EGG ROLLS OR NON VEG ITEMS WHICH THEY ARE USING FOR ANY VEGETARIAN ITEM.
COMESUM IS GOOD BUT ITS LITTLE BIT EXPENSIVE I THINK, BUT YOU CANT COMPLAIN ABOUT ITS FOOD QUALITY
AS HALDIRAM IS ALSO A BIG PLAYER IN MARKET, I THINK THEY WILL ALSO PROVIDE BETTER SERVICE

I tried Haldirams in Delhi at numbers given but they say there is no branch in Itarsi and the people here do not know it. as i had given the mumbai number, (corporate office) they may inform you better. I tried in google also, but couldnt find any Haldiram outlet (food). Nagpur & Delhi address is given in website of haldiram (haldiram.com) but no itarsi address. still it may be brand new and perhaps the site has not been updated. Cost wise, even Haldiram will not be less expensive then Comesum. All outlets in Delhi and Gurgaon are slightly more than others for they include cost of ambience, service, ac etc. so costwise there may not be any difference, but hygiene wil be better than irctc food.
The first blogger can help lot of others by sharing the number of Haldiram if the blogger comes to know abt it. thanks

Mr Murli Dhar
As mentioned in a previous blog in this context, there is a provider of lunch/snacks in train. One has to order approx 2 hrs before and give order alongwith Seat No., Coach No. details. At present these are available at Vijayawada, Nagpur, Agra, Mughalsarai, Nizamuddin etc - Comesum - You can see their website -comesum.com.
Haldirams has a website -haldirams.com and their outlet address are of delhi and nagpur. do not know if they have nt updated their sites or delivery is not available in Itarsi. - Delhi people say, they dont have an outlet in Itarsi. May be its brand new and system update has not been done.
Any development may kindly be shared. thanks

I have a doubt regarding the branch of Haldiram at Nagpur & that they will deliever the food in train
as in case of cumsum its mentioned on their website they provide facility to deliever the food in train & gave the procedure how to place the order.
But on haldiram's website nowhere is given that they provide food delievery facility in any city.
As per the blogger if the provide this facility in station like Itarsi then y not at major stations like Delhi.
Hope any other blogger will give us the right answer as it will be benficial to many travellers across the country becoz you cant say any thing about the quality of food served by IRCTC as I described earlier in the blog.

Hello everybody,
I was travelling from Sullurpeta to Secunderabad 2 years ago, by chennai express. I have my coleague who had a friend at nellore and we have asked him to get the dinner from Nellore. On casual enquiry of coach attendant about the food quality in the train, he has told us that most of the people travelling by that train will give their order to "Hotel Simhapuri", a famous hotel based at nellore. The orders are being served at coach along with the bill.

any idea about prepaid autos @ h.nizamudin stn?

Sep 18 2009 (03:28PM)
4.1 Reply   Add Bookmark   Remove Post 0
If you come out of the station, there is a pre-paid TSR/Taxi booth run by Delhi Police in both entry points of H Nizamuddin Rly Stn. The fare amount will be collected by the DP in the counter (with extra cost for other big luggages, hand luggage being free). If you know abt Delhi and the approx price, if you have visited or gone to your destinatiion by Auto/Taxi before, you can bargain with the autowallahs at the exit point of station itself, else, safely, you can go to the pre-paid booth and book an auto. Other options available are - Radio taxis (Rs.15/- per km) which can be called by ur mobile (if u have one) and at given landmark, taxi comes and picks you. The taxi number is sent by sms to the mobile as well there is a call from the driver regarding your present location for easy identification. But mobile is a must for calling radio taxi service. Choose ur mode of transport and have a pleasant stay in Delhi. Thanks.

The blogger before me is right! Only thing is to get out of the station towards Nizammudin side, not Sarai Kale Khan As far as I know on Sarai Kale Khan there is no prepaid booth...I may be wrong. If you have to travel to east Delhi, then you can come out on Sarai Kale Khan and haggle with the autos !! If you are going west Delhi, go towards the main entrance, NOT Sarai Kale Khan. Best of luck.

Will the radio taxi come for such short distance? The taxi drivers
at new delhi stn. demand minimum of Rs 200/ to and fro.

Mr Murli Dhar & the main blogger at 1151 AM -
There is a prepaid DP booth near the car parking site of Sarai Kale Khan. It is in the divider at the point of the new exit and the first cut for car parking. It is there from a very long time. Sometimes, one may miss it in the rush & chaos at that place, but known persons have used it. No need of haggling with autos if you have to go to East Delhi. For going towards East Delhi - come towards Platform No.7 and Exit.
Your point is correct - for going to West, North & Central Delhi, go towards platform No.1 and Exit.
Mr Balan - Ashok Vihar is approx 10 kms from New Delhi Station by the shortest route of going via Ghanta Ghar, Sabzi Mandi etc. Radio taxi do come for short distances. contact the operators for min. charge - some charge 75/- and some other 100/-. Check before you order.

Thanks to blogger for the coments on DP at Sarai Kale Khan end... Anyway the first questioner is travelling upto NZM and Not NDLS. Seems it will be better for him to go towards Nizammudin side and take a call taxi, and going via Subzi Mandi, etc, would be tiresome and heavy traffic if I remember it correctly about 5 years back! Still you are in Delhi so you would know better. Remember, again, the person asking is travelling only upto NZM since that the terminating station for the train. Thanks very much.. I missed pointing out that spot, because invariably I would use my negotiating skills to go to Mayur Vihar I, or walk down to the bus stand and take a bus - every 5 mns on the NOIDA link road via NZM bridge, and take a rickshaw home :) Good wishes to all.

The suggestions given by Sri N.Ramakrishnan is a vital one.The Southern Railway should immediately stops all the trains as a trail measure for a period of six months at Tirunagesvaram staion with immediate effect.Autos are available at the station. We six members from Madurai came in the morning 9.45 am train from Tiruchi and within 5 minutes time we reached Sri oppliappan temple on our way to Tirunageswaram raghu bagawan temple.Thr Prithyakara devei temple is also easily reachable from this station. We wentto Tirubuvanam temple as well as the purchase of silksarees
But to our surprise that there is no return train to Tiruchi/Madurai up to
6.30 p.m. So, this is a welcome suggestion. The railways do stops all the passing trains at this station. S.Pooranavalli,Shencottah.

I travelled on this train on 12th Oct., in sleeper class. There were vacant berths.. The service altogether was very good. Greeting, news paper and bottled water on embarcation,Clean coaches, good food, regular cleaning and personalised attention. We have to appreciate Mamatha Banarjee for this service.

i travelled on 15th december from Delhi to chennai.
I saw the seats were 98% occupied through the whole journey . Food was great. but could have been better. No delay in departure and arrival. I think people are gradually understanding the concept of duronto and many people travelling long distances will definitely opt for duronto trains rather than going for the previously existing trains like tamilnadu exp and Gt exp.
My overall experience with duronto was extremely satisfying and will be looking forward to travelling more with these trains.
can be said as an another star added to our railways fleet.

If some user can send a scanned photo of a normal berth and side middle berth in different trains, with measurements,in 2tier,3tier etc. in first and second classes, this will answer many such queries on the subject. This will also benefit many tourists who would like to know what Garib Rath, Rajdhani, Duronto and other trains look like from the interior. I do not know whether rly. website or any newspaper has published this,as they do in the case of airlines which publish photos of seat sizes in various classes in ads.

reservation suspended means a new version of the train is planned to be fired into the system - please try after a day or two.

the garib rath concept introduced by the railway ministry is understandable by them only.
we travlled during august from bhuwaneshwar to hatia and were shocked with the attitude of the attendent distributing bedrolls. firstly he was giving it at a price for which we did not even get any receipt . we complained to the tt but even he could not do anything.
secondly there was a stampede for getting the bedrolls as everytime the bedrolls are lesser than the number of passengers and is given on first come first serve basis . if u r travelling for the first time there is no one to tell u about it .
why cannot the coaches carry enough bedrolls to cater to all seats of the coach and why do they have to haress passengers by creating a demand supply hoax.?
why cannot the attendent come to each seat and ask if they want the bedroll or not and charge at the seat and give a receipt ?
why do indians have to fight for basic things in life always?
why cannot the railways create a better and practical approach to the bedroll problem and do away with the small thinking stratedy of creating stampede for the bedrolls.?
in an ac coach everyone needs a bedroll so the authorities should provide to every passenger and not think that today there are lesser passengers so the bedrolls are going waste ? after all the bedrolls are generating revenue for the indian railways so then why should they not provide it to all.
it was a sorryful state and i must say that the government authorities believe in making the common indians run around to get even the basic things in life.
is mamta banerjee listening ?

in garib rath trains, bed rolls are not given free as in other superfast trains or rajdhanis. the charge for bed rolls are rs.25/- per set, and is approved by railways to be paid to the attendant. there may be a supply problem because, the demand may be less on some days and more on some days. generally, if you inform the attendant after u enter the coach you get it. no problems about that.
you are increasing the paper work of the attendant by giving receipts. you are getting a bedroll on payment of rs.25/- which is valid charge. why do you want it on paper. if you go to local kirana store, you dont get receipt for all purchases.
this garib rath train charges are less than what you pay for the ac charges on a normal superfast train. hence the extra charge for bedrolls. you will pay less than a senior citizen charge on a normal superfast train in ac class.

To the blogger at Oct 22 12:27PM,
Please let me know how the Rly. will get exact amount collected from the passengers into their account without proper records. The attendants may use more bedrolls, and pay less to the dept. In all organisations, there shall be a system/ procedure/ accountability for everything. Instead of a big receipt, they can give a small receipt on thermal paper. If you see buses with only driver, or if you see parking lots in hyderabad, you will find that the person operating the same will issue the tickets with the help of a small machine. The rent for parking is only Rs. 5/- per Two wheeler. In this case, the amount is Rs. 25/- per bedroll.

To the Blogger at Oct 22 12:35PM,
Thanks for the information. Even then, How Rly. will pay the Contractor or take money from Contractor for the bedrolls provided. There needs to be accountability for that also. Even the Estimates will be prepared after verfying the usage also before allotting a tender to somebody.

Shiva Prasad

This if for the information of railway passengers:
Railways collect money from contractors to sell their services to Passengers just like mobile catering service. Railways will not pay any amount to contractors.

Thanks !
First time I purchased an e-ticket (PNR 262-8175087) to travel by AC III Garib Rath Exp. from Kanpur to Mughal sarai on 7th Nov 2009 which surely i m proceeding forward for canellation.
Luckily, I read all about the facilities before boarding the train otherwise I have to repent for my decision in regard to travelling unknowingly under pressure or at mercy of coach-attendent responsible for making cheerfull or perfect ruining the mood of traveller besides risky stempede scenario due to unpleasant way of distribution of bedrolls that too without issuance of any receipt of extra (i.e. hidden) charge of Rs. 25/- or wtever.
Thank you Renu Khemkaa, I m obliged !

Now the thought has been executed voluntary and I m free of any scene worth nuisance by attendent, in the process of serving bedrolls and non-issuence of reciept against any hidden charges i.e. Rs.25/- or wtever, during travelling by boarding in train by name Garib Rath Express.
Now cancellalation of PNR No : 2628175087 is completed.
Though I lost Rs.100/- in the process but convinced with full satisfaction !
Ty Rinku Khemka
I could understand the honour lost on a/c of travelling by such low paid Ticket at the cost of treatment of passenger like animal in berserk way by charging Rs.25/- or wtever that too without provision of any receipt.
Once again thank you Rinku Khemka
I m obliged personally
