After the BJP-led NDA government assumed office in May 2014, names of trains, stations, rail circuits or schemes have been largely inspired by the saffron ideology.

The Indian Railways also launched the “Deen Dayalu’ coaches to commemorate Upadhyaya and renamed Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji terminal as the Chhatrapati Shivaji ‘Maharaj’ terminal to strengthen the myth surrounding the Hindu warrior king.
The state-owned transporter is also renaming 16 other zones, suburban and wayside stations in the Western Railways.
The Osiwara station, for instance, has been rechristened as the Ram Mandir station, while the Eliphistone Road station is now called the Prabha Devi station.
Critics allege the BJP is on a renaming spree to appeal to religious sentiments and consolidate its support base along faith lines.
The party also courted controversy by renaming some popular roads in the national capital allegedly pandering to its Hindutva ideology.
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) renamed Dalhousie Road as Dara Shikoh Road, the Race Course Road as Lok Kalyan Marg and Aurangzeb Road after former president APJ Abdul Kalam.
Dara Shikoh, elder brother of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb translated the Upanishads in Persian.
But the BJP’s Hindutva push is not restricted to names alone.
On Saturday last the Railways announced a plan to conduct a preliminary engineering and traffic (PET) survey to lay a broad gauge line connecting the “Char Dhams” (four Hindu pilgrimage sites) in Uttarakhand.
A circuit train connecting religious centers such as Haridwar and Vaishno Devi is also on the anvil.
Train names and schemes are also heavily borrowed from the Sanskrit lexicon. The “Uday” – a train shortly to be launched – is an acronym for “Utkrisht Double Decker Air Conditioned Yatri”. The Special Unit for Transport Research and Analytics is called the “SUTRA”.
Train names have always remained symbolic of the dominant political ideology of the period.
In the first flush of the country’s independence, trains took patriotic names such as the Azad Express, Satyagraha Express, Chauri Choura Express, Hutatma (Martyr) Express or the Jallianwala Bagh Express.
After the socialists had their brush with power at the national level, trains acquired egalitarian names such as the Jan Nayak Express (in memory of Jayaprakash Narain) or the Janata (People’s) Express, Kisan Express (farmer’s train), the Sampoorna Kranti (total revolution) express .
A large chunk of trains have feminine names: Archana Express, Gitanjali Express, Pooja Express, Meenakshi Express, Padmavati Express or the Shipra Express. While such names are probably inspired by mythological, religious or historical figures or locations, another set of trains have been named purely on religious line. These trains are Akal Takht Express, Ala Hazrat Express, Amarnath Express, Bhagirathi Express, Golden Temple Mail, Kashi Vishwanath Express, Mahabodhi Express among others.
One category has historical names (Haldighati Fast Passenger, Kalinga Utkal Express, Hampi Express, Lichavi Express, Mauyra Express, Tipu Express, Vaishali Express or the Vikramshila Express), while a clutch of trains have been named after the rivers of India (Ganga-Damodar Express, Godavri Express, Ganga Sagar Express or the Ganga-Sutlej Express).
Some trains have a simple names (Steel Express, for instance), while others have attention-grabbing names such as the Honeymoon Express.

Why is Indian cultural getting tagged to "Hindutva"? This is a controversial post. Whats wrong in using Sanskrit oriented names. Hindutva would come in had they used Hindu Deity names for trains.

Just read it in newspapers, The contract of the Catering company got cancelled on 8th May. When the Pantry staff got this news at NDLS, about 40 of them got down at the station itself, leaving only 4,5 employees. Due to this, food could not be served to most passengers. Lots of passengers started tweeting and stopped the train at CNB and summoned Railway staff / Ministry officials too got involved.
As a repercussion the IRCTC Base Kitchen at Ranchi got surprise visitors yesterday from SER HQ and they did inspection of all the food and packaging for the NDLS bound RAJ. Probably IRCTC will now handle the catering for RNC Raj too now onwards (I am not sure about this

हटिया-हबीबगंज ट्रेन के लिए रेलवे को 20 फीसदी यात्री भी नहीं मिल रहे हैं
- रिपोर्ट के अनुसार हटिया-हबीबगंज ट्रेन के लिए रेलवे को 20 फीसदी यात्री भी नहीं मिल रहे हैं। जबकि इस ट्रेन की पूरी रैक एसी है। इसमें लगे जनरेटर कार की वजह से डीजल की खपत ज्यादा है। ट्रेन को एक ट्रिप चलाने पर रे20 से 25 लाख रुपए खर्च हो रहे हैं।
- हटिया-हावड़ा ट्रेन ढाई घंटे लेट : हावड़ा-हावड़ा ट्रेन के देर से पहुंचने के कारण हावड़ा से हटिया आनेवाली क्रियायोग एक्सप्रेस रविवार को करीब ढाई घंटे विलंब से खुली। यह ट्रेन रिशेड्यूल होकर रात 10:10 की जगह 12:30 बजे हावड़ा स्टेशन से खुली। बताते चलें की हटिया-हावड़ा की रैक ही आगे हैदराबाद जाती है।

Papa k tym me NDLS jaane wali 2 hi badhiya trns thi. Deluxe (now-a-days, known by Poorva) n kalka mail. Papa ne pucha k ticket kisme book kiye ho. Mne bola h ek trn SDAH se Jalianwala bagh.papa ko iske baare me pta nhi tha. Wo bole k kesa trn me book kr liye ho,Deluxe nhi tha kya? Mjhe hasi aa gya n I said k ab srf Deluxe hi nhi h NDLS k liye. Wonder how did you derive at such a conclusion. However, if that is true to whatever extent, that can obviously be related to one major reason : Overcrowded trains ... Possibly Bihar and UP have one of the highest demands for Railway services. Number of trains serving the region are not sufficient for the demand. Cleaning a train en-route which is perennially overcrowded will be a very difficult task even if there were enough cleaning staff on board.

This is misleading ..Currently Gaya has very limited no of flights and that too only to Delhi and 2 International Destinations mostly catering to Buddhist tourists. The Flight options that you've shared are all Connecting ones. Notice the duration, 14H - 21Hrs ... In this duration Trains reach Delhi / Mumbai from Gaya ... I think currently Gaya only has 1-2 flights daily to DEL on an average and not 14 and 15 as you have wrongly derived.

Gaya has daily connectivity to Delhi and biweekly connectivity to kolkata by Air India. Rest we have few international connectivity to south asia and that too depends mostly on season.
Private airline offers to provide domestic connectivity to Gaya airport was declined by government and thus we have a only few flights.

IR will induct more services only when there is profitability in doing so. Just having too many people using the train unfortunately doesn't directly correlate to revenues. The point that is critical is how many people are really buying tickets. If that percentage is low then IR would obviously be hesitant to introduce more trains. Also, as we all already know that Passenger and Suburban trains are really loss making avenues for IR. Only Long distance trains make some profit. So these days IR is not keen on introducing such services that will put unnecessary burden to the exchequer and tax payers.

SMS पर दी जाएगी ट्रेन लेट होने की सूचना मंथली सीजनल टिकट का किराया भी बढ़ाया जा सकता है। जल्दी ही टिकट कैंसल करने के नियमों में भी बदलाव किया जाएगा। ट्रेन लेट होने पर पैसेंजर्स को इसकी जानकारी एसएमएस पर दी जाएगी। चार दर्जन से अधिक ट्रेनों की पहचान कर उन्हें समय से चलाने, उन्हें अप टू टाइम बनाने को लेकर भी कदम उठाए जाएंगे। भारतीय रेलवे ने डाली पुराने कुंओं में नई जान, पानी पर हर जोन में होगी प्रति महीना 22 लाख रुपए की बचत
फ्लैक्सी फेयर हो सकता है ख़त्म
राजधानी, शताब्दी, दुरंतो ट्रेनों में फ्लैक्सी फेयर सिस्टम का भी रेलवे रिव्यू कर रहा है। इस सिस्टम को बंद करने और इसके बदले में ऑप्शनल सिस्टम लाने पर सोचा जा रहा है। यह भी सोचा जा रहा है कि सभी ट्रेनों के बेसिक फेयर में 10% से 15% का इजाफा किया जाए। मंथली सीजन टिकटों के रेट भी बढ़ाए जाएं।
रेलवे के मुताबिक, पिछले साल 9 सितंबर से 31 अक्टूबर के बीच राजधानी, दुरंतो और शताब्दी एक्सप्रेस में 5 हजार 871 बर्थ खाली रही थीं। फ्लैक्सी फेयर सिस्टम को ही इसकी वजह माना गया था।

In my opinion the Railways should not take the finding of this profitability report on just face value. They must determine why there isn't much demand for its AC2 Seats? In my opinion my just giving more coach space but keeping the service levels same as AC3 Railways are unable to justify the price difference. If there is a difference of say 30-35% between AC3 and AC2 then there must be an equally perceivable difference in service levels too. A person paying more will obviously expect better services, better food, cleanliness etc inside such coaches. This is a no brainer and can be learnt from the airline industry. Infact in premium category coaches of All Trains, Rajdhani like services must be provided. For e.g. Newspapers, piped music, WiFi, Gourmet Food etc should be included in the package.. Per this chart, the other classes GS / 3 Tier etc have even lrger losses. What is IR doing about those. Per this report it seems, its only profitable to run Garib Rath kind of Trains all over.

I doubt if Hajipur / Sonepur can sustain a full AC Train. For GS Coaches, for sure there would be heavy demand from such places.

We must watch close to the travel dates as this is a special train and announced recently ..obviously people will make only last minute reservations if at all. I would wait until the Run days actually to see the demand. I am sure it will fill about 70% of the seats on an avg.
