Also a good demand and people not minding the extra Rs.20/- i.e wherever they feel they can make more money they make it a superfast These are trains that have an average speed greater than 55 km/h (34 mph). Tickets for these trains have an additional super-fast surcharge. A Superfast Train runs at a Max Permitted Speed of 130 Kmph if the train's rake is Fully AC especially LHB(eg: Raj Trains) . If the LHB rake is of AC & Non - AC Mixed Composition then it's Max Perm Speed is 120 Kmph(eg: Duronto Trains) . Lastly , if the Mixed rake is Non - LHB then it's max perm speed is 110 Kmph(eg: Kalka Mail) . Such a kind of train also has minimum no of halts enroute (incl of Technical halts which are also commercial) . Best eg of Non - Rajdhani "Superfast" Train is Kolkata - Amritsar Superfast (Modified Duronto) Express (Only 10 halts on 1850+ Distance & only 29 Hrs total journey time). Thanks . i totally agree with siddharth , when railways want to earn more revenue by chargin Rs 20/- extra, they make it into superfast and increase moving speed above 55 kmph. thats why trains like Dakshin Express, GT Express, North East Express, Ashram Express, Chennai-Howrah Mail, Howrah-CSTM Mail(nagpur), Kolkata Mail(ald) etc etc to name a few ... lot more are there Please dont add the olden days trains here-GT was one of the earliest superfasts running across the country siddharth i agree , but GT express nowhere behaves as a sf through out the journey. my traveling experience on both GT and TN, maybe they should have introduced a third train mas-ndls normal exp/mail with GT stoppages and keeping GT with limited halts , maybe more then TN but much lower then what it has currently but IR making most of the night trains as sf's but there is no diff. which i have recognized is for only increasing of revenue IR making trains as sf.... and another point is the train not having crossings is known as superfast.....thats the only improvement made by IR thats it. yes one third daily train is required with express status. Then GT stops can be down to 20 from existing 36 stops. You are right...both 8047 and 2254 (one is superfast and other normal express) starts from HWH and takes 7 Hours 5 mins to reach KUR.Now the question is, in this scenario why shall a passenger pay extra 20 Rs. superfast charge for 2254 when official timing is same???
