Yes KSK should be re routed via ypr-Gtl-rc-sc-ngp-bpl-nzm...It is a fully electrified line n has a better mps than through the existing route......It can reach nzm at the same time without any delay n can save 10 min in sc .......n also many people who prefer ksk from ypr have a problem if they r getting down at kcg....Sc can be a better option

I think 12649 KSK should run from YPR-HUBLI where a slip from Belgaum should be attached then it should go via BALLARI, RAICHUR , YADGIR then through GULBARGA go to DELHI. Only then it can truly be called REAL Karnataka Sampark Kranti and justify its name bcoz right now only Bangalore and other states are enjoying the benefits of this train.

Seems very tough, but ksk must serve to Karnataka towns first it will be interesting whether really they divert via Raichur,Gulbarga but kacheguda can't be skipped so only to serve to yadgir,rc railways won't divert there has to be large lobbying by kk MPs to get it diverted

Union Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha on Friday said the Hubballi-Varanasi train service will be introduced on May 23, while the day train between Hubballi and Mysuru will also be launched the same day.
Speaking after releasing the commemorative postage stamp on Sri Hangal Kumar Swamiji as part of the seer’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations, Sinha noted that the demand to introduce the train service between Hubballi and Mangaluru will also be considered.
The project to bring 2.50 lakh gram panchayats in the country under the optical fibre cable (OFC) network
to give broadband internet connection at 100 mbps speed will be completed by the end of 2018, and these rural areas will have Wifi hotspots. In the first phase, one lakh gram panchayats will be covered by June-end, he said, adding that steps will be taken to improve the signal strength of the BSNL mobile network.
Earlier, he told mediapersons that mobile connectivity is being provided in the hilly, naxal-affected and backward areas also. E-commerce, passport service and payment bank service will be provided through the Postal department, he said.
On the suspicious death of Karnataka cadre IAS officer, Anurag Tewari, Sinha told mediapersons that the Uttar Pradesh government will not hesitate to hand over the case to the CBI, if needed.

"All Diesel hauled Trains (Passenger/Goods) will run on Electric Traction from Vijayawada to Guntur and can be extended up to Markapur covering also Narsaraopet and Vinukonda."------ -
- does that mean pass/goods trains will get e-loco till markapur?
- i don't think so, since no ETS is there at Markapur. so why have SCR given that in official PR?
- the only
change that i can discern is that the DEMU 77248 from Tenali-Markapur may get converted to MEMU. but that too is doubtful since it has RSA.

May 17 2017 (17:11)   Diversion of Yeshwantpur-Karwar express hardly cuts travel time

rdb*^   129253 news posts
Entry# 2280657   News Entry# 302690         Tags   Past Edits
SWR’s move reduces journey time by just 10 minutes
The South Western Railway’s decision to divert Train No. 16515 Yeshwantpur-Karwar tri-weekly express via Nelamangala and Shravanabelagola instead of Tumakuru and Arsikere reduces journey time by just 10 minutes. At the same time, its decision to revise the departure timing of Train No. 16575 Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction Gomateshwara Express from 7.50 a.m. to 7.10 a.m. would extend journey time by 40 minutes.
The SWR on Saturday announced the diversion of Yeshwantpur-Karwar-Yeshwantpur tri-weekly express via the shortest route with effect from June 2 from Yeshwantpur and
June 3 from Karwar. Instead of the 7 a.m. departure, the train departs from Yeshwantpur at 7.10 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to reach Mangaluru Junction at the existing time of 5.40 p.m. It takes 1.48 hours to traverse 19 km between Bantwal and Mangaluru Junction.
The departure timing of Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction Gomateshwara Express has been revised to match the timing of Train No. 16515, where Gomateshwara Express is made to leave Yeshwantpur at 7.10 a.m. to reach Mangaluru Junction at the existing arrival time of 5.30 p.m. (10.20 hours).
However, the diversion speeds up the return journey of Train No. 16516 Karwar-Yeshwantpur tri-weekly express. The train leaves Mangaluru Junction at 11.30 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays instead of 11 a.m., to reach Yeshwantpur at 8.30 p.m. instead of 10 p.m.
Similarly, there is no change in the departure and arrival timing of Train No. 16576 from Mangaluru Junction and Yeshwantpur (11.30 a.m. and 8.30 p.m.) respectively. There is no change in days of service and timing of Tain No. 16515/165116 between Mangaluru Junction and Karwar.
Prolonged wait
Sources in SWR pointed out that the journey time of Karwar-Yeshwantpur Express has been reduced by 1.30 hours with the diversion. The trains, both Yeshwantpur-Karwar Express and Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction Express, have to wait for a long time to enter Mangaluru Junction Station, which comes under southern railways thereby, lengthening the journey hours. If the southern railways agrees to receive the trains early, the journey hours would be reduced, sources added.
Vinay Kumar, member of SWR’s Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee, regretted that the diversion did not reduce journey hours and lamented that the zone is unresponsive to commuters’ needs.

This is completely wrong info from railways, I have seen it departing 3hrs late from UBL, still it had arrived JHS at right time. Such is the heavy slack present in CR. Though Arsikere is a Technical halt, still they are not converting it into Commercial halt, will be highly useful for MYS, Hassan, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru districts.

REC not convinced about need for forestland diversion; Railways asked to re-enumerate trees to be chopped
Environmentalists can breathe a sigh of relief, but those seeking better connectivity to the coast may have to wait a while longer. For, the Railways proposal for a Hubballi-Ankola line through the Western Ghats has been sent back.
The Regional Empowered Committee (REC) of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), which met on May 5, has said it is “not yet convinced” about the need to divert 595.64 hectares (5.95 sq. km) of pristine
land for the much-delayed railway project. An expert committee set up by the REC had visited the site and raised questions about the viability of the project and its environmental impact.
On May 5, the REC, chaired by Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (APCCF-Central) M.R.G. Reddy, said a detailed presentation has to be prepared by South Western Railway covering technical, financial, ecological and hydrological aspects. This includes detailed cost-benefit analysis, including the cost for transport through alternative routes. It said re-enumeration, with GPS, is required of the more than 2 lakh trees that will be chopped trees in the proposed project area.
The expert committee felt the proposal was not justified as it was initially mooted for transportation of iron and manganese ore. The panel also raised questions about National Highway 63 not being used to its full capacity. It said implementation of the rail project would fragment the forest, making the existing wildlife vulnerable to vehicles and poachers.
The lack of plans for land use on railway stations also irked the expert committee. “If Railways is particular about this project, they should go for tunnelling from Kalaghatagi to Navalgadde village of Ankola range. At every station proposed, there should be proper barricading to prevent any illicit activities in the forest area,” the committee said.
The REC has asked the State government whether it prefers the unbroken revenue lands of Kudremukh project (around 2,500 acres) or the degraded forestland for taking up compensatory afforestation — as mandated when executing this project.
The project process stretches to more than a decade ago. In 2004, a request for diversion of 965 hectares was rejected by the MoEF&CC. Two years later, environment organisations approached the Central Empowered Committee, which recommended that the proposal not be considered. The case went to the National Green Tribunal, New Delhi, which in 2016 passed an order in favour of the Railways. Subsequently, the REC was approached with a fresh proposal on October 24, 2016.

The tri-weekly express will run on the new Bengaluru-Hassan line, reducing about an hour of the journey time and 33 km of the distance
The Yeshwantpur-Karwar day train will soon operate on the newly commissioned Bengaluru-Hassan line.
When South Western Railway diverts Yeshwantpur-Karwar-Yeshwantpur Tri-Weekly Express via Shravanabelagola from June 1, the total services on the line will thus become six days a week, including the tri-weekly services of Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction-Yeshwantpur Express.
in SWR told The Hindu that the Karwar day train now runs via Tumakuru and Arsikere to reach Hassan traversing 207 km in four hours.
Upon its diversion via Shravanabelagola, the distance comes down to 174 km and the running time to three hours.
The Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee of SWR had recently approved the proposal to divert the Karwar train via the shortest route and the Railway Board has approved the same, sources said.
New timings of the diverted services are being worked out, they added.
Since the Karwar train will now run on the path of Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction tri-weekly service, one could expect the same timing to be followed.
The Mangaluru Junction service leaves Yeshwantpur on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.50 a.m. to reach Hassan at 10.55 a.m. and Mangaluru Junction at 5.30 p.m. Karwar Express presently leaves Yeshwantpur at 7 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to reach Hassan 10.53 a.m., Mangaluru Junction at 5.40 p.m. and Karwar at 11 p.m.
In the return trip, Karwar-Yeshwantpur Express leaves Karwar on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 5.30 a.m. to reach Mangaluru Junction at 10.50 a.m., Hassan at 4.50 p.m. and Yeshwantpur at 10 p.m.
The Mangaluru Junction-Yeshwantpur Express leaves Junction on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 11.30 a.m. to reach Hassan at 4.50 pm and Yeshwantpur at 8.30 p.m.
As a prelude to diversion of the train, the SWR has already suspended advance reservation on this service.

Good move. Between Puttur and MAJN, it takes 2 hr 25 minutes whereas passenger train takes 58 minutes!. Straight wastage of 1-1/2 hours. If it can reach MAJN by 16:15 and after LR leave at 16:30, it can reach KAWR at 21:30. This will increase patronage also for Udupi, Kundapura public.
In the return direction, from Hassan to YPR, both exp trains take more timethan passenger. HAS YPR can be speeded up to 3:15 minutes, so that train can reach YPR by 8 to 8:30 pm

Hubballi-Ankola rail line may claim two lakh trees in Karnataka
By Meera Bhardwaj | Express News Service | Published: 10th May 2017 02:42 AM |
Last Updated: 10th May 2017 08:29 AM
BENGALURU: The Hubballi-Ankola rail project will lead to felling of over 2 lakh trees in Karwar and Yellapur divisions, according to a
report released by a three-member committee. This is as per a sample enumeration done in 2016.
An assessment has to be done in Dharwad division as the last enumeration was done in 2005. A final assessment of tree cover is yet to be made for all three divisions.
The committee was set up by the regional office of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) as per the directions of the National Green Tribunal on February 19, 2016. The Tribunal had asked Railways to come up with a revised proposal and seek MoEF’s approval.
The committee’s brief was to carry out inspections on the proposed 595.64 hectare area of forest area that will be used for the construction of the 168.28km broad gauge railway line from Hubballi to Ankola. It has raised objections as it feels the project may lead to heavy deforestation in the Western Ghats and loss of wildlife habitat.
The committee states, “The number of trees proposed to be felled is very high and we suggest that an environmental impact assessment study is held. The forest area in Yellapur and Karwar divisions is very dense and part of Western Ghats and this will be completely disturbed if this project is approved. The Railways’ proposal to construct 34 tunnels and nine railway stations will require additional forest area which is not part of the land use plan presently. Most of these are on forest lands.”
The comittee adds, “The railway track was initially proposed for transportation of iron and manganese ore which at present is not justified. As of now, not many trucks are seen plying on NH-63 which runs almost parallel to the proposed railway track. The capacity of the existing road is not fully utilised, so where is the need for a rail track?”
The land mass where the railway line is proposed is between Kadra, Kodsalli, Supa dams, Kaiga Atomic Power Project and Gangavali river.
The local and spillout wildlife population of Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary and Kali Tiger Reserve are dependent on this piece of land. The project will further divide the land mass into small pieces, making wildlife vulnerable to road accidents and poachers.
