The Kerala Express is a super fast express train of the Indian Railways that runs between New Delhi and Trivandrum Central in Kerala state.
It was introduced in the year 1976 as Kerala-Karnataka Express (KK Express) starting from New Delhi to Trivandrum and Bangalore, with bifurcation at Jolarpettai Jn. Initially, it used to complete the whole journey in 46.5 hours with a long halt at Jolapettai for link/delink of Kerala/karnataka coaches. In 1980, it was split into two trains, Kerala Express and Karnataka Express with Kerala Express again
split at Palghat Jn and one of the portions diverted to Mangalore. It overlapped with the Jayanti Janata which bifurcated at Shoranur with one part of the train going to Cochin Harbour and the other to Mangalore. Later, these two trains were merged to form the Kerala Mangala Exp. In 1990, after a separate train to Mangalore was introduced, it began to run along its present route. It was a non daily train initially and had shared the same time slot with the Tamil Nadu Express, Andhra Pradesh Express and the Karnataka Express. However, after its conversion into a daily train it received its own time slot.
It originally was numbered 125/126 but was later changed to 2625/2626 in 1989 after the Indian Railways adopted the four-digit numbering system. In December 2010, the Indian Railways adopted the five-digit numbering system by which the Kerala Express is currently numbered 12625 for upward journey and 12626 for downward journey.
Kerala express covers more of Andhra Pradesh than AP express, covers more of Tamil Nadu than TN express and hence highly patronised by passengers of three south Indian states to Delhi. Unfortunately, Kerala express given raw deal and lower priority than TN express as can be seen by the numerous minor halts introduced in recent years due to political interferences. For instance, TN express has average speed of 67kmph whereas Kerala express only 60kmph.
Long distance passengers expect Railway board to speed up Kerala express such that it departs origin after lunch and arrives destination before lunch on 3rd day.
Kerala express is the only express train to stop at Vaikom railway station.

Sorry for unclear.
To be more clear, status AVL-120 on 5-4-2017 from OGLtoSC for 12709.
Now I'm in HYD and want to book either from PRS or IRCTC.
I stay very near to SC PRS counters.
not sure InternetBanking , Gateway, IRCTC service charges for E-ticket.
If those charges are high, I prefer walk to SC PRS counters.
I want to know those addl charges go out of my pocket if it's E-ticket.

Jan 12 2017 (11:16)   LHB coaches for Chennai Mail from next week

rdb*^   129386 news posts
Entry# 2124372   News Entry# 291054         Tags   Past Edits
As part of the initiative to offer enhanced safety and travelling comfort to the passengers, the Railways is to introduce Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches in the 12624/12623 Thiruvananthapuram Central-Chennai Central-Thiruvananthapuram Central Superfast Expreses from next week.
The rake with LHB coaches will start plying from Chennai Central to Thiruvananthapuram Central on January 18 and from Thiruvananthapuram Central to Chennai Central on January 19, a senior railway official told The Hindu here on Wednesday.
Threes rakes have been made available for the Southern Railway to switch over the LHB coaches for the prestigous
Chennai Mail operating in the highly-demanding Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai sector.
At present, the Rajadhani Expresses operating in the New Delhi-Thiruvananthapuram Central-New Delhi, the Kochuveli-Indore-Kochuveli Weekly Expresses and the Ernakulam-Hatia-Ernakulam Superfast Express and back are operating with LHB coaches.
The introduction of LHB coaches is part of the decision to introduce them in mail and express trains in a phased manner. LHB coaches based on German technology were initially confined to RajdhaniExpress, Shatabdi Express and Duronto trains.
The raiwlays has decided to replace all old coaches of mail and express trains by LHB coaches by the end of 2019-2020. Compared to the ₹ 1.5 crore needed to manufacture a conventional coach, a LHB coach will cost the railways around ₹ 2.5 crore.
Developed by Linke-Hofmann-Busch of Germany (renamed Alstom LHB GmbH in 1998 after the takeover by Alstom) and produced by Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala, the coaches are designed for an operating speed up to 160 km per hour. The length of 23.54 m and a width of 3.24 m means a higher passenger capacity, compared to conventional rakes.
They are considered to be “anti-telescopic” (they do not get turned over or flip in case of a collision). The coaches are made of stainless steel and interiors are made of aluminium to make them lighter. Advanced pneumatic disc brake system for efficient braking at higher speeds, modular interiors, improved suspension system and modern air conditioning system are the sailent features of the LHB coaches.
Only secondary check of the LHB coaches comprising of safety check and cleaning will be taking place in Kerala, the official said, adding primary maintenance of the coaches will be carried out in Delhi.

EOG:2. General: 3. Sleeper: 11, 3Tier: 4, 2Tier: 1, HA: 1.
EOGs replaced SLR few seats lost there fro UR travelers. Eventhough 1 sleeper lost, number of seats are more. Lost few seats in 2 Tier AC, as 1 2A is removed.

LHB coaches have become an extremely loss making venture for IR due to the necessity of generator vans.
IR must either go for HOG system in all locos or develop LHB SG coaches on war footing, if it want to contain its losses and maintain its market share.

Good idea indeed...but who has to send those coaches ? Is the zones have that much coordination which is much requiredbto form such an arrangement here ?
Would love to see such thing happening but I don't think we can expect such a useful things happening from our beloved zones who are always ready to put blame on others ...

But since the rake is of SER, SCR may not be interested in taking the initiative.
Also SCR needs to first arrange some GEN LHB coaches for that Tri-weekly DMM-BZA which they promised to do when they introduced it.
you mentioned, out of the 4 GENs and 2 SLRs, how many get detached at KZJ. How many remain for the run with Dakshin?

A very good question!
See attached pic. I took it yesterday early morning at GTL. I was so intent on the newly POHed bright colored loco that I forgot to give any thought to the coaches it was shunting.
noticed the train board and saw Guntakal to Howrah and then left as I was in a hurry. Since I was at Guntakal and the board read Guntakal, I didn't give any second thought and left :)
Later on, your question flashed to my mind. I tried to recollect things.... some 2 bogies which were GEN, some parcel vans like those in KSK. Some 5-6 coaches were being shunted.
All this is like a blur. Wish I had realised it then. Hope some GTL members shed light on this.
Notice in pic: the train board is similar to SER boards - Red board white lettering.
