As per Maharashtra times, engine of 11301 Udyan Express derailed while leaving CST. Due to this Pushpak and Koyna express left CST by one hour delay.

Mumbai: The Central Railway may switch from 1500 V Direct Current (DC) to 25KV Alternating Current (AC) between CST and Thane by May 24. This is the only section on Indian Railways which runs on DC current. CR’s general manager S K Sood said, “We are working to undertake the switch from DC to AC during the May 23-24 weekend.”
CR successfully undertook test charging of the AC power in December 2014. A part of the railway network—from LTT-Thane till Kalyan and beyond—has already been converted from DC to AC. A senior official said, “Till now, we run two types of rakes as trains between Thane and CST still operate on the DC system.”

CR runs 10 services with DC rakes between CST and Thane. Most of these rakes have outlived their lives. A senior official said, “These rakes are risky to run as they are prone to mishaps. We have to switch to AC section to run better rakes.”
The commissioner of railway safety has granted his approval but the chief commissioner of railway safety has put the ball in the railway’s court on whether or not to go ahead with the conversion.
There are apprehensions that the lower height of the British-era bridges can pose safety challenges. However, CR plans to apply the insulation paint beneath bridge and catenary wire to prevent mishaps due to short-circuit.

Most of these DC rakes have outlived their lives. But there is not a single incident with any of these trains; at least on media. But there is at least one incident every week with MUTP, siemens or retrofitted rakes with respect to breaking pentographs, smoke from rakes, or some sort of break down. And I guess increase in speed will be only post removal of retrofitted rakes from service.

Most of the retrofitted rakes are the old shabby ICF Krupps rakes which have been many times causing derailments, fire or delays..Please do not blame the new technology..I have personally interviewed motorman at Mahalaxmi car shed who themselves feel uncomfortable in these old trains...but are forced to operate them due to obstinacy of IR and delay in procurement of newly furnished Bombardier rakes..I hope this conversion would remove the old rakes along with the retrofitted ones..
Please note, as a Mumbaikar, I do not condemn the old rakes as they have been serving the city for a long time but its just the time and we need to change with the time.

शताब्दी एक्स्प्रेसला कोणण रेल्वे मार्गावर अपघात झाला आहे. खासगी जेसीबीची रेल्वेच्या इंजिनासह चार डब्यांना धडक बसल्याने हा अपघात झाला. कणकवलीजवळच्या बोर्डवे गावाजवळ हा अपघात झाला. यात काही प्रवासी किरकोळ जखमी झालेत.
अपघातानंतर शताब्दी एक्स्प्रेसला कणकवली स्थानकात आणण्यात आलं आहे. किरकोळ जखमी झालेल्या प्रवाशांवर तिथे उपाचर करण्यात आले. पण अपघातामुळे कोकण रेल्वे मार्गावरील वाहतूक विस्कळीत झाली आहे. पण ती कधी सुरळीत होईल, हे स्पष्ट करण्यात आलेलं नाही.

Similar thing is happening 5-6 times in the Tinsukia - Dibrugarh Section of NFR, a highway is running parallel to rail track, still there is no guard rail to prevent road vehicle dashing the trains, somedays back, Dibrugarh Rajdhani somehow escaped from this type of tragedy, still the coaches were damaged.
Even Pune - SC Shatabdi too faced a similar accident some days back, I regret why Indian Railways don't take preventive measures for this parallel collisions.

16 passengers of Janshatabdi Express injured in freak accident
MANGALURU: Sixteen passengers on board 12052 Karmali - Dadar Janshatabdi Express were injured when an earth excavator of a private stone quarry fell down from Kaswan-3 cutting between Sindhudurg and Kankavali stations on Sunday. This infringed the railway track and hit one AC chair car coach and two non-AC chair car coaches of the train resulting in 16 getting injured, three of them grievously and rest escaped with minor ones.

Railway officials rushed to the site and ensured early clearance of the railway track. The corporation has arranged ex-gratia payment to the injured passengers. As a result of the accident, train 10103 Mandovi Express was detained for an hour and train 10105 Diva-Sawantwadi passenger for an hour and fifty minutes.
The railway track was not affected due to the accident and train services have resumed. As per directives of Bhanu Prakash Tayal, chairman and managing director of KRCL, not only the section was cleared at the earliest but free train journey passes have been arranged for the families of injured passengers who wished to visit them at the hospital. KRCL is lodging a FIR against the stone quarry owner. Call 022 - 27587939 for train inquiry.
Union minister for railways Suresh Prabhu has ordered that inquiry will be conducted into the incident and strict action will be taken against the defaulter. This inquiry will be conducted by the Commissioner of Railway Safety

Seen in video my bonus catch of the rail fanning trip 02006/Karmali - Mumbai LTT Double Decker Special hauled by Ex. Pune, Kalyan [KYN] WDM-3D #11455 skipping Bhandup and moving towards its final destination. I was able to capture as it was running late than its schedule. Railfans Arzan Kotval, Prathamesh Yeram, Shriinath Adkar and Deep Soni can be seen in the action as well...!!!
This Premium was made to run only during Ganpati festival. It become a flop since occupancy is 20% due to very high rates (dynamic pricing). Now after getting downgraded from Premium Special to Holiday Special, this train has become a super hit and runs jam packed as spotted by railfans and its run has again been extended

why not? Its possible. GOA govt should also put pressure. KR had asked for land on Aquem side for construction of 2 platforms at margao. KR didnt put it properly or govt didnt understand the need. Media also has to make awareness of necessity of connectivity with Vasco.

Yes it should be in next budget but the way CR and KR are working it looks like they dont want this rake.
Its surprise and wonder how all of a sudden there is no platform for JS at MAO? Karmali may be geographically center of GOA, near to Capital PANAJI and can become a terminal but MAO is Goas commercial capital and also a junction. Its like you can terminate all konkan trains at Panvel and people can take local trains for Mumbai. Its like you move a train terminal from Dadar to Kurla.

is not a business center. And konkan railway route is not like Mumbai- Delhi or Ahmedabad route. Goa is a tourist place.The hotel check in/out is mostly 12 noon. Konkan kanya is always waitlist as it reaches margao by 12. You cannot expect reservations for a train reaching at 4:30 pm. You cannot except people boarding at 7:00 am at karmali. DD will have to run on JS timings or half an hour early and that too up to margao. This might reduce rush of KK. If there is any train from south terminating at margao then take it up to Karmali and then in return direction. SO all will benefit.
Let the halts for DD be Thane, Panvel, (No Chiplun) Ratnagiri, Kankavali, Kudal, Sawantwadi, Thivim, Karmali and margao.
Let JS leave half an hour late from Dadar and up to may be Sawantwadi with Roha, Khed, Vaibhavwadi, Sindudurg as additional halts along with current one. Lots of people who stand and travel in JS will get reservations and pantry boys will be happy as they can serve properly.

Forgot about Vasco Da Gama ?
The largest city of Goa which is not getting a train to Mumbai inspite of having good demand.
It has the only airport of Goa, a major port, Navy, many big businesses, etc it is as highly commercial as Madgaon but not getting much trains if MAO is Dadar than why not have VSG as CSTM of Goa.

मुंबई-मडगावपर्यंत धावणार असलेल्या या डबलडेकर एसी एक्स्प्रेसचे दहा डबे चाचणीसाठी मध्य रेल्वेकडे हस्तांतरीत करण्यात आले आहेत. पारसिकच्या बोगद्याच्या उंचीमुळे 'डबलडेकर'पुढे निर्माण झालेली तांत्रिक अडचणही दूर झाली आहे. असा स्थितीत या एक्स्प्रेसची चाचणी करण्यासाठी मध्य रेल्वेच्या वरिष्ठ अधिकाऱ्यांप्रमाणेच रेल्वेच्या 'रिसर्च डिझाइन अॅण्ड स्टँर्डड्स ऑर्गनायझेशन'मधील (आरडीएसओ) ज्येष्ठ अधिकाऱ्यांचे पथकही दाखल झाले आहे. या संयुक्त पथकाकडून काही दिवस चाचण्या घेण्यात येणार आहेत.
असे असतानाच ही डबलडेकर एसी एक्स्प्रेस नेमक्या कोणत्या वेळी सोडायची याबाबत विचार सुरू झाला आहे. कोकणाकडे जाणारा मार्ग प्रामुख्याने एकेरी असल्याने 'जनशताब्दी'प्रमाणेच डबलडेकर एक्स्प्रेसला मार्ग (पाथ) नेमका मिळणार कुठून हा प्रश्न आहे. MUMBAI: Central Railway will not be able to introduce new suburban rakes for lakhs of commuters due to the delay in getting permission for the DC-AC conversion on the Kalyan-LTT section, officials said. They will also have to wait for more 12-car and 15-car trains, reduction in congestion at platforms, better frequency of trains and more speed. The delay in DC-AC conversion will cost the CR Rs 1 crore daily, officials pointed out.
CR chief spokesperson Atul Rane said, "The DC to AC conversion on the entire stretch—from Kalyan to Kalwa on the slow line, Kalyan to Mulund on the fast line and from Thane to LTT on the 5th and 6th lines—will save a lot of money for the railways."

"We will save on energy bills as the DC-AC conversion will mean saving power for running trains," Rane said. It will also ensure that new suburban rakes, which mainly run on AC traction, can be introduced on CR.
"This too has been delayed due to the DC-AC work and all the new rakes are being allotted to the Western Railway," an official said.
The AC conversion will also ensure that CR augments most of the nine-car trains to 12-car rakes, and this will help in reducing the congestion at stations and overcrowding in trains.
"The benefits are many. We are awaiting the final nod from the chief commissioner of railway safety (CCRS) in Lucknow," Rane said.
The conversion of 1500 Volt DC traction to the 25000 V AC traction system will also lead to speeding up of long-distance trains along the CR route. Sources in CR revealed that though the final nod was awaited from the CCRS more than a month ago, the latter had raised objections on technical grounds.
"The railway board has clarified there was no safety hazard in implementing the project. We now expect a positive response from the CCRS," a Central Railway source said.
Once the permission is given for the project, it can be implemented within two days, an official said.

Now that CR/WR fight no longer exists. Both are seen working together over this DC/AC issue.
When WR finished ACfication, DC rakes of WR were transfered to CR. Old DC rakes of CR which were in good condition were given to WR and are converted to AC (still some rakes are visible in mahalaxmi car shed being converted) along with good DC rakes of WR.
This made surplus locals at WR. So WR transferred 5 AC/DC rakes to CR.

The next time you want to travel to Goa, there is a possibility of plenty of rail tickets being available as there are plans to start a double decker air-conditioned train between Mumbai and Madgaon. If the trial results are favourable, it will be Mumbai’s second such train.
 
An official has informed that a double-decker coach, which will be sent from Bhopal to conduct trials, is likely to arrive in Mumbai next week.

Once the coach arrives, attempts will be made to check several parameters to ascertain if plying a double-decker, air-conditioned train is technically feasible on the Central and Konkan Railways.
 
Double-decker coaches are taller than normal coaches, thus posing a challenge for the authorities to check if the coaches will be able to clear several tunnels — right from Parsik tunnel up to Madgaon — within the specified regulations of the railways.
 
According to an official who requested anonymity, the coaches are likely to clear the tests at all places except Byculla railway station, because the height of one of the bridges there will pose a challenge as there isn’t adequate clearance between the coach and the bridge.
 
Therefore, is it likely if the trial is successful it might be operated between Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Madgaon. An official informed that CST and Dadar are both very congested stations, thereby making it difficult to start it from Dadar. On September 27, a double decker air-conditioned train was inaugurated to run between Bhopal and Indore, but the train has been receiving poor response. On an average, there are 100 passengers in the train, which has capacity to ferry 1,320 passengers in one trip. During Diwali, there were only 8 passengers.
 
Even the coaches were reduced from 11 to 8, thereby making it possible to transfer one of the coaches to Mumbai to trials. There is a possibility of the existing route being scrapped, but for this, three months’ notice will have to be given to the passengers.
