Is there any restriction on size or weight or number of peices that I can carry. And if it is allowed what is the procedure and charges. Book luggage in a train whose source and destination matches that of yours.
You have to carry all luggage till station and you have to take delivery from station at mumbai on your own.
Talk to parcel office headclerk/ officer at least 24 hrs. in advance of the departure of the train because their is a capacity of 23 tonnes that one HCPV Carries , if for the particular day of your travel the HCPV's capacity is already full then parcel office will book your luggage in any other day, which is even
more difficult for you to monitor.
every luggage needs to be packed properly using corrugated paper, polythene cover, or the respective cartons. after packing you have to put them in jute sac(bori) and stitch it properly, because in the platform the porters charge huge amount to do this much of stitching only.
Package whose width is more than 110cms (can happen for washing machine and >1.5T AC & Fridge)will be charge as per volumetric measures which is almost 1.5 times more than had they been charged according to normal weight.
Please let them take the measurement, and weigh infront of you otherwise there will be problems
Furnitures are not allowed as per rules, but these rules can be broken by alluring the clerks with extra money.
For TV or any fragile articles it is quite risky because at any unloading point they turn over the curton and bang it down with force on the ground which can damage your picture tube/LCD.
For AC also chances are there for gas leakage.
For the luggage specified by you charges will be around Rs. 10000.(approx)
Don't misplace the slip that contains the detail of your luggage because u will only receive your luggage on production of that slip at your destination.
I have my own experience of shifting household articles from Vijayawada to Pathankot, in HCPV, Will never for get the day.
If you are willing to spend 20/25k extra and sit back relax and receive your materials at home, you can go for Agarwal packers, they charge a but high than other competitors, but their service is best and secure.
Hope I have been able to help you.
