It's very unlikely for the old station to be renovated. The recent growth of the city around the sanctuary has hindered the movements of birds and a new railway line and heavy construction work will not be allowed under such circumstances. This will irreversibly damage this small island of greenery in the city. The Green tribunal has already forbidden SR from doing any kind of non-forest activity on it's land there.
And besides, the line the was abandoned a long time ago due to the marshy soil there which does not offer much scope of higher speeds on tracks at an economic price. Highly unlikely that SR would go ahead with the plan now.

SPV on Bullet Train to finalise Technical Details
The ambitious bullet (high-speed) train project between Ahmedabad and Mumbai will kick-start from 2018 after the conclusion of discussions at various levels between railway officials and representatives of Japan. While the initial cost was pegged at Rs 98,000 crores for the project, the government is now keen on an elevated corridor, which will add another Rs 10,000 crore to the overall project cost.
“We have covered a lot of grounds in the last three months, which involved discussions at various levels to get the project
started. A joint working group which was constituted by the Prime Minister’s Office will be going to Japan for two days next month to hold further discussions on the loan negotiation,” said a senior official, adding that the government has now decided to go for an elevated corridor.
The Indian delegation will engage its Japanese counterparts in giving a major thrust to the “Make in India” initiative and also ensure larger involvement of Indian companies in the civil work of the project.
“The final location survey is now to be commissioned, which will examine the geological and hydrological aspects of the project. It will also look into the 21-km-long undersea tunnel portion of the project as well. The study will be fully funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency,” the official said.
The high-speed corridor project is being funded with a soft loan by Japan of Rs 80,000 crores, while the railways and the state governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra will share the remaining cost of Rs 20,000 crores.
Technical experts of the railways and Japan have also held discussions on the design and certification of the high-speed corridor project. “The Japanese experts have stated that the elevated corridor will be fenced and, unlike Delhi Metro, there could not be movement of vehicles underneath,” said the official.
It has also emerged that not more than 20 per cent of the project cost would be spent on direct procurement from Japan, which will mostly be on train sets.
With the aim of launching the first high speed train in the country between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, railways has stepped up ground work for starting construction work of the Rs 98,000 crore project in 2017.
“Our aim is to start the work at the earliest. It would take about seven years after the awarding of the contract for the project to be completed as a lot of new technologies would be used to construct the high-speed corridor,” said a senior Railway Ministry official involved with the bullet train project.
The special purpose vehicle (SPV) formed to implement the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed bullet train project, is meeting tomorrow to finalise the technical details including standardization process for construction of tunneling, pillars, fencing and other requirement of the mega project.
The SPV has been named National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited comprising senior railway officials and the national transporter is in the process of appointing a CEO for the job.
Maharashtra and Gujarat will have equity of 25 per cent each, while the Railways will have 50 per cent in the SPV.
The bullet train is expected to cover 508 km between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in about two hours, running at a maximum speed of 350 kmph and operating speed of 320 kmph.
At present, Duronto Express takes about seven hours to cover the distance between the two financial centres.
Estimated to cost about Rs 97,636 crore, 81 per cent of the funding for the project will come by way of a loan from Japan. The project cost includes possible cost escalation, interest during construction and import duties.
It is a soft loan for 50 years at 0.1 per cent annual interest with 15 years’ moratorium, said a senior Railway Ministry official.
For timely completion of the project, a joint committee has been formed under the vice-chairman of NITI Aayog with the secretaries of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Departments of Economic Affairs and Foreign Ministry as its members along with the Railway Board Chairman.

10 times higher?? Rather they would be lower as by that time other countries too would have started adopting (or would have already adopted) technologies similar to bullet train thereby driving down costs owing to economy of scale; heck we may even have technology which is cheaper than that by a decade. Plus considering the rapid growth of Indian middle class we would easily have far more people with ability to afford those services and so could easily spread the network across length and breadth of this country rather than being forced to concentrate on small pockets where upper middle class people live in order to have profitablity.

If it would have started 10 years before, the expenses might be 50 times lesser then what it is today....
The question is will it serve to lower the congestion in the existing rail network?
will common people can afford the ticket of bullet train when the cost of ticket is expected between Rs1500 - Rs.2000 for 300km, means the ticket price from AMD to MUM may be 3500/- . Not only this, it will be based on demand and rise basis. The price will increase with the rise in demand and expected
to go up to Rs.20000/-.

The wait for the realisation of the proposed Kanhangad-Kaniyooru rail link, that provides the easiest access to Bengaluru from north Kerala, continues with the State governments failing to shoulder 50 per cent cost to take up the project.
Land acquisition
A meeting of the Kanhangad Nagara Vikasana Samithi held here on Sunday criticised the Kerala and Karnataka governments for going slow on meeting the requisite fund for land acquisition even after making categorical assurances to do so.Addressing the meeting, Samithi chairman P. Appukkuttan said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Minister in-charge of Railways
Aryadan Muhammed had said that the Cabinet would pass a resolution to sanction the amount as a pre-condition laid by the Railway Ministry for giving green signal to the project, which did not find any mention in the railway budget. The authorities have already submitted to the Southern Railway the survey report on the 91-km route.

Opportunity to demand more trains, end anomalies in timings
Kerala has got an opportunity to demand more trains and end anomalies in the timings as it has been asked to host the Indian Railway Timetable Conference (IRTTC) early next year to finalise the railway timetable for 2016-17.
The mantle to host the IRTTC this year had come to Southern Railway which had in turn asked the Thiruvananthapuram railway division under it to convene it in the State capital.
crucial three-day IRTTC, to be held here for the first time, has been tentatively scheduled from January 18, railway sources told The Hindu .
Crucial meet
Allahabad was the venue for the 2015 edition of the IRTTC. The conference is crucial as the controllers from the 68 railway divisions and chief controllers of the 17 railway zones put their heads together to finalise the trains to figure in the Railway Budget 2016-17.

Solution to include more trains in Kerala:
* Run Memu all days.
* Add extra 2 coaches to Memu and passanger trains.
* Instead of new trains increase frequency of existing trains.
Make Venad and Kerala Express via Ernakulam North.
* Make Janshathabdi express daily.
* Korba Trivandrum and Kochuveli deradun make via Aleppy.
* Don't ever allow stops as per MPs request.
* Remove JS and other trains stops at Mavelikkara.
* Ensure Express trains running between 48-55km/hr.
* Ensure Superfast express running between 55-70km/hr
* Give stoppages of trains to alternate stations.
* For eg: Allow chennai mail to stop at Quilandi and chennai sf express to stop at vadakara then skip chennai mails stops at vadakara and skip chennai superfast to skip quilandi, Also give midnight stoppages to Gujrath trains to Quilandi and West Coast express to Vadakara.
* Similar we can consider Aleppy and Chennai mail between ERN, Angamali, Aluva, Idappalli, Chalakkudi, Divine Nagar, Iringalakkuda, Pudukkad (Remove some stops of chennai Aleppy express).
* Other suggestions I have is between Trivandrum and Kollam give Maveli to stop at Pettah, Varkala, Paravur,
* Remove all the stops between Kayamkulam and trivandrum of (except, kazhakkuttom and Varkala, Kollam) Malabar express
* Give Murukkumpuzha Chirayinkeezh, Kadakkavur, Varkala, Mayyanad, Karunagappalli stops to Manglore Express.
* Remove all stops between kottayam and thrissur except ERN of tvc maq (16347) express.
* Remove stoppages of chennai mail at Pettah and varkala, Allow varkala stop to chennai Superfast instead.
First outcome if implement this should be Separate Amritha Express and Rajyarani and make half portion of Amrita express to Mettupalayam from Palakkad (half to Pollachi)

Dec 15 2015 (18:05)   Dear PM Modi, Indians need toilets more than Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train

On Saturday, Dec 12, India inked a pact with Japan to lay India's first bullet train network between commercial nerve centre of Mumbai and Ahmedabad, in a much-ambitious project worth Rs 98,000 crore. As part of its 2014 Lok Sabha election manifesto, the BJP is on the way to fulfill its promise of constructing a "Diamond Quadrilateral" by connecting the cities with a network of bullet trains. Diamond Quadrilateral project aims to connect four metropolitan cities--  Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai, with high speed trains. The trains on these routes will have a speed of about 160km-200km per hour.
Bullet Train: Representational Image The bullet train network will link India's financial hub Mumbai with Ahmedabad in Modi's home state Gujarat. Bullet train between the
two cities will cut travel time on the 505-kilometre route from eight hours to around three. Oher proposed routes for running the new bullet train services include Delhi-Agra, Delhi-Chandigarh, Mysore-Bangalore-Chennai, Mumbai-Goa and Hyderabad-Secunderabad. As per the data provided on the Government of India Budgets, obtained by Scroll, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government has spent 2.4k crore on Swachh Bharat initiative in 2014 to 2015. [India to get bullet train, inks Rs 98000-cr project with Japan] Here is the exact expenditure by the Modi government in other sectors: All figures in Rs '000 crore Amount Mumbai - Ahmedabad bullet train 98 Center spend of highways, 2015-16 43 Center spend of schools, 2015-16 42 Center spend of railways, 2015-16 42 Center spend of health, 2015-16 30 Safety investment in railways, 2015-16 25 Center spend of Swachh Bharat, 2014-15 2.4 When it comes to implementing Swachh Bharat (clean India) campaign, then the Indian government needs to invest more. Only Rs 2.4k crore won't help India in getting rid of the waste and other filth. There should be complete stoppage on open defecation, by building more number of toilets, especially in the rural parts of India. The point to be noted is that Indians are in the desperate need of toilets across the country, rather than the bullet trains. [Indo-Japan summit: pacts on bullet train, defence, nuke energy] As per a report published in Scroll, 44% of Indians do not have the access to toilets, as compared to other developing countries like Nepal (32%), Pakistan (13%) and Bangaladesh (1%). Interestingly, Mumbai and Ahemdabad are already well-connected with road, rail and air routes. [Ahmedabad- Mumbai one way ticket on bullet train is Rs 75,000: Kejriwal] Then, the humongous amount of Rs 98,000 crore on bullet trains to connect both cities, looks like an 'absurdly wasteful' investment. Indian railway system is said to be one of the most unsafe in the world. Every year, many lives are claimed in freak train accidents. Unmanned crossing also lead to fatal train accidents. On Tuesday, Dec 8, The Palwal-Ghaziabad Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train rammed into the Delhi-bound Lokmanya Tilak Haridwar Express at Baghola village near Palwal in which the driver of the local train was killed and hundreds were injured. [Railways order inquiry into Palwal train mishap] The Indian government should invest more wisely on railway safety, rather than creating a luxurious gift for the elite. The Centre government should also spend more on the construction of schools, better education, health and transport facilities. According to World Health Organisation (WHO), India ranks at 112th number, on the healthcare index, while a country like Bangladesh is at 88th rank! [Why India's public-health system needs urgent attention] "Due to a constraint on India's financial resources", The Modi-led NDA government had reportedly scrap the plan for a universal healthcare scheme. So, the pertinent question that arises is whether Modi government should focus more on reducing the travel time Mumbai to Ahemdabad and vice-a-versa or they should think for the betterment of the common citizens of India, by providing them with the basic necessities, that demand more attention. Modi government, that will complete two years in May 2016, is yet to fulfill its promise of bringing "acche din" (good days), as the nation awaits for a better future eagerly!

This extension is not at all required... as we want the Nanjangod - Nilambur rail line at the earliest.... Thrissur- Palakkad- Mysore via Bangalore is a circular path, should not encourage circular paths... Kanhangad - Kaniyur rail line should be completed at the earliest.... I am kerala but this extension should only will have negative impact in future... Let extend trains from Hyderabad/Solapur/Guntur to Mysore/Chamaraja Nagar but not trains from palakkad.... Tempoaray advantage is not a solution.. It will be cumbersome. Do you think that once it is extended then will it be allowed to revert once the Nilambur - Nanjangod rail line realized?
