Success of MUM-AHM HST depends on many factors, some are with in the control of IR/Govt and many are out of control.
.
Govt/IR need to manage it in a better way and try to replicate the Japanese Shinkanshen Model which is financially performing best among all the HSTs including the rich European countries like France, Germany, Italy, Spain, GB etc.
.
Indian
...
conditions are similar to Japanese conditions i.e. very high traffic potential, The major factor which have to be managed is to keep the prices as low as possible so that a substantial fraction of Middle class, upper middle class can afford it.
.
Economic performance of India in next 8 years is the most crucial factor, if GDP/per capita income increase at fast rate, and benefits passed on to all classes (not just the riches), the paying power of public shall be high enough to avail the HST trains.
.
But the current trend in Indian economy, where state govts & central govts are competing to give almost all kind of subsidies/ privileges to strengthen their vote banks does not gel well for the future of Bullet trains. A major portion of subsidies are syphoned off and give rise to black money. Instead subsidies should be provided to manpower intensive industries so that people get employment and become financially strong.
.
Delhi Mumbai Industrial corridor under implementation is expected to bring in much needed development along the MUM-AHM HST route and a good stream of paxs is expected after some years of operation of HST.

Dec 30 2016 (10:02)   5 new platforms to ease rail movement in city - Times of India

AkashNER~   8 news posts
Entry# 2110200   News Entry# 290045         Tags   Past Edits
To rid passengers of delayed arrival and departure to and from the city, five new platforms are being built, two at Charbagh railway station and three at Transportnagar. Charbagh has only nine platforms against the present-day requirement of 16 to operate more than 300 trains daily. Besides, short length of platforms makes them unfit to accommodate a 24-coach train.
A passenger station with a home and an island (with two faces) platform would be built at Transportnagar under the doubling and electrification of Utrethia-Alamnagar line while two island platforms will be constructed at Charbagh under the yard remodelling project.
"Transportnagar

will be developed as a passenger station and some trains operating from Charbagh will be routed through the section to reduce congestion and make operation of trains via Charbagh faster," said A K Lahoti, divisional railway manager (DRM), Northern Railway, Lucknow.

Truely a great step. TransportNagar lies on imp LKO-CNB highway & located near the airport. It also has a large population around...
This transit Railway station at this line will ensure operation of many imp mail/exp/SF trains from ASR/MB going towards BSB/MGS via Sultanpur/Raebareily, bypassing LKO-charbag..
This will reduce congestion at Charbag & also ensure timely operation of trains...

Yes, it is indeed a great step. It would be interesting to see apart from daily express & passenger trains, which would be the BIG-GUNS which would get diverted to this section !

More than developing a satellite station, NR should have focused more on extending the length of existing platforms, and construction of some more new platforms. The real task lies ahead when they will try to lengthen the existing platforms. Far more better results could have been achieved if platform upgradation at CHARBAGH was taken into prime consideration

Great report about MG/BG conversion & Project Unigauge !!
The point by point description of MG/BG conversion & its utility post independence has been meticulously compiled here. Its heartening to realize that the present RM is impartial in allocating funds to the remaining isolated MG stretches of IR for much needed connectivity & creation of alternate routes for already congested BG network...
Project unigauge, which started in 1990s under RM CK Jafer Sharief, will be remembered as a good political decision overall. Even if its main beneficiary were Karnataka & Rajasthan at that

time, it covered the rest of the nation gradually & benefited the entire IR network....

Today many gauge converted routes are getting doubled and electrified and on way to become trunk lines notably DLI-JP/JU/ADI, MS-MDU,
SBC-UBL sections. These 3 sections were like MG trunk routes (in addition to others) and were main stay of the rail traffic of region due to nonavailability of alternate/ parallel BG routes.
Fortunes of NWR have changed with GC, and similar is the case of SR/SWR. Freight traffic on many converted routes esp.the port connectivity routes of Gujrat has tremendously shot up bringing in much needed revenue to IR.

traffic of GQ routes have been diverted to alternate converted routes in UP, Bihar also.
