I feel that, we need to see one proper rainy season and then if there are any flaws, railways will correct it...slowly situation can improve... Also a new railway line between Chandranathpur and New Silchar would do a lots of difference even if train runs slow in Mountain region. And this is possible only with the demand, and demand would improve after the railway line reaches Imphal.

It is still far better than Hassan Mangalore railway line in SWR, Operations on this railway line started almost 10 years ago and there is only one daily and one try weekly express running on this section. And I am confidant that, once there is a demand there will be a supply automatically :).

Feb 13 2016 (13:36)   Gogoi for double tracking of Guwahati-Tinsukia line

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has requested Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu to include double tracking of railway lines from Guwahati to Tinsukia for better, safer and faster links with the rest of the country in his forthcoming Railway Budget 2016-17.
In a letter to the Minister for Railways today, the Chief Minister said the double tracking of railway lines from Guwahati to Tinsukia and expediting the ongoing doubling of the railway line stretch between New Bongaigaon and Kamakhya are crucial for growth and development of Assam and the region as a whole.
“The railway

track in the State also needs to be electrified,” he added. The Chief Minister underscored the need for introduction of superfast daily express trains with limited stops outside Assam “from Dibrugarh/Guwahati to Mumbai/Pune in the west, Vellore/Chennai/Bangalore/ Trivandrum/Kochi in the south and Amritsar/ Jammu in the north.”
“Moreover, a Shatabdi train from Silchar to Guwahati and a Rajdhani Express from Silchar to New Delhi are required to be introduced to cater to the needs of the people of Barak Valley. The North East Express, which originates from Guwahati, may be extended to Silchar,” he said in the letter.
Gogoi also requested Prabhu to expedite the construction work of the much-delayed Bogibeel Rail-cum-Road Bridge, and a parallel bridge augmenting the existing Saraighat Bridge.
Gogoi also pleaded for a railway line from Silghat to Balipara via Tezpur with a Railway bridge over the Brahmaputra. The Chief Minister called for a separate zone for the NF Railways.
The Chief Minister underscored the need to upgrade the New Bongaigaon Railway Workshop to an Integrated Coach Factory and Production Unit.

He is talking about, Alipurduar in WB and Katihar in Bihar, but I feel that if these divisions are moved out of NFR, ER will try to terminate trains in Siliguri and Alipurduar which are in WB and ECR railway will try to terminate trains in Bihar. And it will become very difficult to extend trains to DBRG and other remote places. And it will be closure of gateway to rest of India, as they need to take permission of Katihar and Alipurduar divisions for introduction of new trains. It is very important to have control over trade routes in any part of the world.

Jan 30 2016 (17:05)   More Stops for Express Trains Proposed to Reduce Traffic

BENGALURU:  As part of its efforts to ease traffic congestion within the City, the Bengaluru Railway Division has proposed that 50 pairs of Express trains stop at railway stations on the outskirts of the city.
Stoppages have been sought for most Express trains entering the city mainly at Channasandra, Yelahanka, Whitefield or Krishnarajapuram railway stations, according to a proposal submitted to the Hubballi Railway Division recently, say reliable railway sources.
“The proposal has to be okayed by the headquarters (Hubballi), the Railway Board and the Railway Ministry,” sources added.
The

congestion witnessed at Cantonment, Ypr and Majestic railway stations when long distance trains arrive and the scramble for buses and other modes of transport to various destinations in the city can be reduced massively, said a top railway official. “It will help in reducing road traffic within the city if this proposal is okayed,” he added.
Chief Passenger Transportation Member at South Western Railway Zone, Hubballi, A K Singh, said the proposal was being examined very positively by them. “We are actively looking at it. We do understand the congestion problems faced by Bengaluru. We want to facilitate easing of it.”
Refusing to divulge further details, Singh said it would take some time for a decision to be taken. “All I can say is that the first move towards this process has just started. The next railway time table will be out by July. If a decision is made, it could be announced in it,” he said.
A few Express trains presently stop at the stations but the proposal aims to have a manifold increase in the number of trains that stop at these stations. Out of the 50 pairs (onward and return) of Express trains, 15 pairs would stop at Yelahanka, eight pairs at Whitefield, 10 pairs at Krishnarajapuram and eight pairs at Channasandra, said a top railway source. Plans to stop a few pairs at Karmelaram station and other minor stations have also been suggested.
Channasandra railway station has to be upgraded with numerous facilities on the lines of K R Puram railway station before the process comes through, an official added.
Requested Train Stoppages
Whitefield station: Yeshwantpur-Howrah Express, Sangamitra Express, Brindavan Express and Kochuveli Express
Yelahanka: Sampakranti Express, Garib Rath (Secunderabad), Korba Express, Jabalpur Express, Ajmer Express and Jodhpur Express
Channasandra station: Coimbatore-Lokmanya Tilak Express, Udyan Express, Kacheguda Express, Shirdi Express and Hampi Express
Krishnarajapuram: Ypr-Howrah Express, Yeshwantpur-Kamakhya, Yeshwantpur-Lucknow Express and Dibrugarh-Mysuru Express.

Very useful step. In Channasandra, there is a second platform being built and the first platform length has been increased. But access(Foot over bridge) to second platform has to be provided, also if SWR can provide one more entry point towards RamaMurthy Nagar, it will be more useful. Hope all these will come up, once the demand raises.

I have traveled in a day time passenger(BNC-BZA) between CDSR to HUP. I think there are around 9 intermediate stations. This train almost had a crossing each and every station. I feel until doubling is done between DMM-YNK, it is very difficult to introduce a ICE train.

I feel, it is very important to understand some history and some questions like, why it was called KK and ran via Jolarpettai, when was the section between GTL and SBC was converted from meter gauge to Broad Gauge. When was the gauge conversion of GTL to Dhone and to KCG was done. When was the link btw GY and Pendekallu came up. Also when the Name is Karnataka Express, is it covering any part of Karnataka or only Bangalore. Another important point is demand when the train started via GR in that section.

Here's some history:
1. Till the 1970's, only Madras and Hyderabad had dedicated connections to Delhi ( GT express for Madras and the former version of today's Dakshin express for Hyderabad). Gt had a few slip coaches to Bangalore while Kerala did not have any connections. In the late 70's ( 1976 I guess) TN was started as a tri-weekly. Following this AP was started as a bi-weekly and for the remaining 2 days, the KK ran as a merger of 2 trains from Trivandrum and Bangalore. All 3 shared the slot between Delhi and Kazipet, while TN and KK shared a slot till Gudur. The KK split at JTJ to go to Bangalore and Trivandrum. This route was followed because this
...
was the only BG route out of Bangalore.
2. The GTL-SBC guage conversion along with GY-DMM BG link was sanctioned in 1971 and the lines were opened in 1983. After this, the KK split into 2 trains (Karnataka and Kerala Mangala express) and the Karnataka used to run one day via JTJ and the remaining days via GTL, RC, Wadi and SC. Later it was diverted through it's current route and SBC Raj was started in the short route via SC.
3. GTL-Dhone conversion was completed in early 1990's as part of GTL-GNT gauge conversion and KCG-Dhone was completely converted by 1998 ( source - HYB division webpage). GY - Pendekallu was opened in 2001.
4. These were introduced as premium trains to the 4 South state capitals and were symbolically named after each state. They did not serve much of the state ( especially TN and Karnataka, except Kerala) but were named after the State as they were the only superfast links to Delhi for these states at the time and also a premium/prestigious image was created by naming them after the state.
5. Not sure about the demand for route change for Karnataka, but given that for a while all 4 ran in the KZJ route and 3 via BZA, SR and SCR might have decided to try an alternate route and provide more connectivity by routing Karnataka through a different route.Over time, the shorter routes were given to the premium trains , SC route for SBC Raj and Konkan route for TVC Raj while the state name expresses remained in their older routes.
These have been running succesfully for 25+ years in their current routes. It is very unlikely that they will ever be diverted.
