this train has been reduced to a Janatha Express - with no AC coaches, No Pantry Car, Only 6 reserved coaches out of 24 -coach long rake, dirty compartments - with ground nut shells, tetra packs, water bottles found everywhere and under the seat (passengers are equally to be blamed - but the problem is - the train is not cleaned periodically en-route) ...vendors passing every second minute!!!
Delayed departure from Chennai Central, paving way for DD has made the matter worse!!

SR can add two ACC & Pantry back with increase in number of reserved coaches.
Timings may also be considered to make it Dep: MAS at 07.00 and Arr SBC: 12.45
Let us hope there is some good news during the release of new time table September 01, 2014

This is with regard to removal of AC Chair Car from 12639/40 Brindavan Express, and making it a 24 coaches train with 6 reserved coaches.
It is unfortunate that such a prestigious train once, is reduced to a Janatha Express!!
I would blame SR for Brindavan Express's humiliation - first they introduced too many stops, slowed down to 58 Kmph, then introduced DD just around the same time and forcing Brindavan loyal passengers to go by DD, delaying the departure to 07.50, removing CC and now, making it almost a unreserved train!!!

bet, coaches of SWR & SCR are better maintained than stinking, dirty coaches of SR. Off late, even Brindavan rake was probably running at night as Deepawali Special!! turning around - just as it arrived at SBC and MAS
We will never be able to push the bureaucracy and bring back the sheen on Brindavan Express..SR officials will always justify their actions - as they continue to be...as you may find may of them supporting the move to remove CC.
It would be better, if the name " Brindavan Express" is removed from the T.No:12639 so that the lovely chugging Brindavan Express will continue in live in our memories to which once as I child, would walk down 2 Kms to Ambur Railway Station to see the train pass by on time, in 1970s!!!

History of Brindavan Express:
This train introduced in the 1964 as the first intercity expresses in the southern Railways. At that time it had stops only at Katpadi and Jolarpet covering the 360 km in 5 hours.
Later due to derailments of some trains the speed was reduced to take 5.5 hours in the 1980s. With increase in stops it has now come to 6 hours.

the late 1980s the MAS-JTJ stretch was electrified. JTJ-SBC the train used diesel engines. For the purpose of speed this train used to have twin diesels for the up gradiesnt between JTJ and SBC.
