Now a days Konkan railway has introduced a new numbering system for coach position in their stations.The new numbering system is entirely opposite to what Indian railways has been following years together.In Konkan stations,coach positions are given fixed numbers such that MUMBAI end (north) is given as 1,2,3....... and 24 at the southern end.This position is common for both directions of travel and for both platforms.Whereas in stations of other railway zones,coach positions are numbered as per the direction of the train.Now the problem is, in Konkan stations,you can not predict your coach position as per your experience or by following IR chart,because the coach position in chart preparation and numbering in Konkan platforms are not same.This makes you totally depend on Konkan information officials or the separate coach position they display in stations, if you are not sure about the coach position in a perticular train.This happened to me last...

We all know trains are still running with 25 year old timetable even after doubling of the tracks.Problem lies with the time management.What we need is a dedicated group of people who can sit together with a vision to reduce the running time and revise TT acoordingly.At present SR will never do that because touching time table of one train will make cascading effect on the other trains.SR will never take that headache unless there is a strict instruction from ministry.Till then they will continue to waste public time and keep on saying "NO" to new trains.Other wise also they can reduce unnecessary slack time between stations,for example the distance between TCR and SRR is hardly 30 KM with line doubled, all north bound trains are given 1 hour running time,even Rajadhani also not exempted from this, just because there is a division change.same is the case between Kasargod and Mangalore...

Well said. Nobody is interested to look into the real revamp of TT. Each year the new TT will be a copy paste of old except here and there. The new trains will be inserted just depends on the availability of the slot and not based on actual requirement.
Any changes to the time table also will be objected by the local passenger associations. Also they need stop each and every place for long distant SF trains.
Now the new promise is after electrification more trains and save in running time....

S.K. Mittal, Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle and Bangalore, will carry out safety inspection of the newly laid double line between Mulanthuruthi and Piravam Road on Saturday. The inspection is part of commissioning the 11.25-km stretch. The double line can be thrown open for traffic only after getting clearance from the Commissioner.

I would like to get a clarification regarding TDR from experts to an issue happened with me.I booked two SL tickets in Mangala Express thru IRCTC on two consecutive days(7th and 8th) from Kawar to Thrissur in last February.The departure time for Mangala from Karwar as per timetable is 2038 hrs.On 7th,Mangala was late and arrived Karwar at 0015(of 08/02).So I applied for TDR at 0040 hrs (after maintenance time(2330-0030hrs) for IRCTC) claiming that train was late.I believed that I can file TDR only if train was late by more than three hrs.Same thing repeated with my 08/02 ticket also.That was also filed for for TDR with same reson.To my shock, both TDRs were rejected.Their reply I quote"

It seems that in their records, the train was not delayed at all. Hence you missed the time window. And since it was never late, you filed TDR too late to claim anything back.
I dont know if you have any other recourse left in this case. Other learned members may be able to help with next steps, if any, to get your money back.

for all such situation, it's always advisable to take a screenshot from ntes. the time limit of 2 hrs begins after charting till 2 hrs of ACTUAL departure from the station. u can still file an online RTI and get the desired info and claim refund. you can also write ur complaint to pgportal and firstname.lastname@example.org

In my case as you people told,TDR time started from 0015 hrs(when Mangala actually left Karwar) and I was well within 2hrs time frame(I filed TDR at 0040hrs) for filing TDR. I will get RTI filed and get the departure time of Mangala at Karwar station on 07/2&08/02.Let us see what happens.

Travelled in this train on 30/08 from Thrissur to Karwar.Train arrived Thrissur at 2050 hrs aganist a scheduled time of 2000 hrs,reached Shornur at 2130 hrs.At Kozhikkode it arrived 10 min before time.Kannur it reached 0005 hrs,waited for 20 minutes for scheduled departure.Mangalore this train arrived at 0200hrs,30 minutes before time.It departed 5 min late at 0245 hrs and reached on time at Udupi at 0345 hrs.Finally my destination, Karwar,eventhough its scheduled arrival time was 0658 hrs,this beast made home at 0625 hrs,almost 35 minutes in advance. I could cover the journey in just 9hrs 30 min, which is unimaginable during monsoon time in Konkan.I will give excellent rating as far as speed is concerned.Really Rajadhani class train in terms of speed.Kudos to locopilots,even during showers they maintained top speed.If given free hand, journey time can further be reduced with proper time management.Only problem is,most of the coaches are grand...
