It was my second trip on board 12213. Watching sunrise at the horizon of endless fields near Sedam is a great start to the day. Similarly, at dusk we get some pleasant sceneries in the back drop of marshy water lands along Amla - Betul stretch in Madhya Pradesh. Coaches are normally clean and tidy. The max observed speeds (using ulysse) across different stretches are as follows
1. SBC - SC: 110 Kmph
2. SC - NGP : 120 Kmph
Jhansi - Tuglakabad :130 Kmph

WAP7 at full throttle ! We accelerated from 40 Km/h to 100 Km/h in 79 s and 40 Km/h to 120 Km/h in 116 s along the Itarsi Jhansi stretch and then peaked at 130 Km/h around Mathura the next morning.

I had the privilege of traveling in India's fastest Jan Shatabdi last month. The train arrived Mathura (from where I boarded) almost 12 minutes before time. I travelled in CC and the coach was very clean. I was glad to see the information screen with details on next arriving station, distance from start (Kota) etc. mounted near the door. Hot tomato soup that I could buy on board was really yummy. We were doing 100+ for nearly the entire stretch and reached Nizamuddin on time.

I travelled from Delhi to Mathura by this train in March. Our WAP4 started picking up momentum after Faridabad and we were rocking at MPS of 110 Kmph for nearly the entire stretch till Chata and reached Mathura about 10 minutes before schedule. There were lots of vacant seats and the general compartment too was nearly empty.

This is one of my most cherished day time journeys - a good mix of speed, leisure, food, class and above all, company of nice and very friendly people onboard.
We cruise at around 130 kmph all the way between Delhi and Ratlam and then mostly around 120 there afterwards. Here is one pic from July 2014

SHIMOGA: Advancing the timing of Shimoga-bound Bangalore Intercity train (No. 16201) from September 1 this year has caused inconvenience to commuters from Shimoga.
Earlier, the train left Bangalore City Junction at 4.30 pm and reached Shimoga Town at 9.45 pm. Now, with the railways advancing its departure from Bangalore by an hour, it reaches Shimoga at 8.45 pm. The train departs Shimoga at 6.40 am and reaches Bangalore at 11.55 am. The Shimoga-Bangalore Intercity train commenced its service from December 9, 2009.
It was then a dream come true for the people
of Shimoga, as it helped them reach Bangalore at 11.55 am, finish their work by 4 pm and then catch the same train back at 4.30 pm.
“The main idea behind introducing the Shimoga-Bangalore Intercity train was to help people return to Shimoga on the same day, after completing their work in Bangalore. The earlier departure time was much more convenient. They should have postponed the timing instead,” said KV Vasanth Kumar, former member of South Western railway (Mysore division) consultative committee member.
Many people feel that the departure time of the Bangalore-bound train (No. 16202) should be revised, so that it can start a bit early and reach Bangalore earlier. The return train from Bangalore should start at 5 or 5.30 pm so that people can reach Shimoga by 11 pm. This timing would help the businessmen, officials and those who have urgent work in the capital, say residents.
Former chief minister and MP B S Yeddyurappa told Express, “I am not aware of this change in timing. I will talk to the railway authorities concerned over the matter”.
Speaking to Express, Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy said, “It is inconvenient and will not help the people of the city. Instead of advancing the departure timing, the railway authorities concerned should have postponed it by an hour, that is 5.30 pm.”
MLA K B Prasanna Kumar told Express that he would talk to the SWR authorities to find a solution to the problem. This change in timing is causing inconvenience to hundreds of regular commuters who travel between different towns and cities located between Shimoga and Bangalore.
There are many regular commuters who travel between Bangalore and Tumkur; Tumkur and Tiptur; Tiptur and Arasikere.
According to highly-placed sources, the new departure time has also had an adverse impact on the revenue collection of this railway line.
Director of Shimoga District Chamber of Commerce and Industries, N Gopinath said, “Doubling the railway line between Tumkur and Arasikere will solve all the timing problems of the trains that run between Bangalore and Birur. Railway authorities should pay attention to doubling the railway track between Tumkur and Arasikere.”

Thank you for raising this genuine concern with the right people.
It is highly impossible to complete our work and reach Majestic back by 3 PM to board the train at 3:30. This is even more important given 1:30 - 2:30 is lunch time in most offices and it easily takes 20 minutes to reach the station from even close by places like Vidhana Soudha. If they change departure time to 5:30, that will be very helpful to many people like us.

What SWR should do... If it departs at 4:30 at reaches late at SMET, then commuters complain about late arrival saying they can't go to further smaller places. If it departs at 3:30 then the complaint is vice versa saying they can't complete all tasks within that time..

Why cant they use passenger trains if they are so much concerned about finishing task and also to catch train?...

I respect your views. A train is meant for all and not just for the people of one City. But, it is also important to consider that, we are referring to an Intercity Express and undoubtedly the largest beneficiaries are people from Shimoga and Bhadravati twin towns. Isn't it fair to expect that the timings be aligned with the vast majority?
Yes, our fellow patrons from near by places (30-50 KM) too need to get back to their homes the same night. To some extent, this can be addressed by having feeder buses leave from Railway Station directly. It is quite logical that people staying even farther will have to search for alternatives.
are absolutely right - there is no silver bullet solution. But when that is the case, in my opinion we need to stick to timings that benefits the largest masses.

Agreed your concern sir.. Going current scenario, whatever measure is taken, people will protest. They changed departure timings for 2 reasons. To free up PF 8 at SBC and to have an early arrival at SMET.

People from MYS were actually not happy with Tippu's arrival everyday as the same was getting delayed by 15 mins everyday. Now the arrival is at 1:45 officially and commuters from MYS are bit relieved as the train departs MYS now at 11:15. Hence SMET ICE will have to be idle at SBC for just
1:45 mins. which is actually good.

As I have seen personally, the crowd in SMET-SBC direction is more compared to the opposite direction. Many pass holders (majority railway employees) were using this train to TK and Tiptur. Now its disadvantage for them and hence this is in headlines everyday. Let's wait for the patronage to improve and then we will discuss after few days.

Fantastic Recovery,
Late running Bangalore Rajdhani covered Bhopal-Nizamuddin (695 KM) in 7h 40m flat. Last stretch of 403 KM in just 4h 21m.

Please find my trip diary. We left SBC on 25th October and reached Delhi on time at 5:50 AM on 27th. Our train consistently ran at 130 kmph on the Bhopal - Delhi stretch.

Pride of the East clocking 130 kmph consistently between NDLS & CNB.
I & my friend had travelled in this train from Delhi to Dibrugarh on 14th September. The crew was gentle and courteous. Our coach was quite clean as well. It is a very nice journey and offers a good blend of speed (Delhi-Allahabad), scenic beauty (NJP-GHY) and diversity (GHY-DMV).
This was our first visit to the far east. People around us were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed every bit of it.
