Sep 06 2015 (17:53)   Advanced reservation for Duronto halted; trains to have 'official' stops

The railways have stopped the 90-day advanced booking facility for Duronto non-stop trains. According to an official from the South Western Railways (SWR), the reservation facility has been stopped as the railways will soon announce that Duronto will no longer be 'officially' non-stop trains and instead they will have multiple stops en route.
The reason for announcing official stops to Duronto was to help commuters get down at all those places where the trains were currently stopped (as technical stops). For example, a Duronto from Yeshwanthpur to Delhi Sarai Rohilla has no official stops (which means commuters can't book tickets to these stations where it technically stops) though the train still stops at Guntakal, Secunderabad, Balharshah junction, Nagpur junction, Itarsi junction and
Jhansi junction.
Similarly, the Duronto train between Yeshwanthpur and Howrah has technical stops at Renigunta junction, Vijayawada junction, Vizianagaram junction and Bhubaneswar. A railway official told Mirror, "Technically, we literally can't run non-stop from one station to another when the train is travelling longer distances."
"For example, the Delhi-bound Duronto has to be stopped at the Secunderabad station for at least 20 minutes as we need to replace the diesel engine with an electric one. Secondly, as the trains run for more than 30 hours, we need to fill the tanks with water and the loco pilots need to exchange. So, we thought that when we were already stopping why not make it an official stop.
However, the only technical glitch was that despite stopping in Secunderabad for 20 minutes, we could not issue tickets to that destination. So, the new official stoppage would help all those commuters." In some of the places, the Duronto trains were renamed as super-fast trains and were provided limited stops.
When contacted, SWR chief public relations officer Ghanashyam Verma said, "We have stopped the advance booking for Duronto trains though we are yet to hear about the official stoppages."
It may be recalled that Duronto, the non-stop trains, were announced with much fanfare in September 2009. The Duronto venture was the pet project of the then railway minister Mamata Banerjee. Initially, Durontos were only AC-class trains while later a few Durontos (like the ones running to Howrah) had sleeper class bogies too. The advantage of travelling in Duronto is definitely the time factor.
For example, a Duronto train between Bengaluru and Delhi (AC three tier-`2,815) would reach the destination in 31 hours and 20 minutes, while Rajdhani (AC three tier-`2,943) would cover the same distance in 33 hours and 35 minutes. Yeshwanthpur-Katra Premium train (AC three tier-`2,915) takes 43 hours and 45 minutes to complete its journey.

It is a welcome decision by govt. Earlier when Durontos were introduced by Miss Mamta Banerjee there were mainly a few durontos and it was actually done to give benefits to mainly metro city commuters. But please dont forget during their journey they use to stop in the technical stops for not less then 20 minutes where the staff use to get changed and the food packets used to get loaded . So at the same time now the passengers can also board and descend. So no time is lost at all. And it is good facility for the passengers on the way to the destination.

Still no special train in the Howrah Durg Section during the holidays ....It was neither there in the Durga Puja or Diwali festivals... Seems SER has developed special grudge with SECR .... exactly 60 days before within half an hour the tickets gets filled up ... but railway doesnot find the necessity to have special trains for this division... Step Motherly treatement ???

Why there is no summer special train between nagpur to howrah via raipur bilaspur ? I have noticed that almost all other sectors /divisions are running special trains other than this section.
