from morning 8.10 to 3 from SBC we dont have any trains. I think it would be good. Considering the crowd for Chennai mail it would be wise to have it as Night Train... :)

I happen to watch a few videos in Youtube on WAP4 and WAP7. Ideally the rear panto gets the power. However in those videos I see front Panto was raised. Is there any specific reason for it??

I HAPPEN TO GET THIS INFO FROM A FB PROFILE.
During winters, frost is a major problem. When the front panto is raised, it looks like this.. ">".. Now, any frost on the wires will be brushed aside by the panto in the forward direction, and the frost drops/particles will land outside the loco. However, if the rear panto is raised, it looks like "<", and here the frost particles will get deposited on the roof of the loco, which contains DBR and other valuable equipment. There is a risk of them getting damaged due to the frost deposited by the brushing action of the rear panto. For this reason, front panto is used in winter. However, this by no means
...

is a convincing explanation, and it cannot explain why front panto is not used in rainy season. This is a subject of intense debate, and we have not found any satisfactory explanation from even 2-3 loco pilots, with whom we have spoken. In fact, one may spot electric locos with rear pantos also in winter, though that's quite rare.

Very noisy train, looks like the coupling of the coaches is loose. I travel every week from Bangalore to Chennai and sleep is always disturbed by the noise. It is like a newly learning car driver driving a car and causing jerks while shifting gears. But it is iron...metal...clinking noise...while you are in sound sleep. Never noticed this kind of nuisance in other trains. Wish railway authorities make note of this and take appropriate corrective action.

AC Coach Gutted,Short-Circuit May
Be Behind Tragedy
Chethan Kumar TNN
Kothacheruvu (Anantapur
district): At least 26 passengers
were
...
charred to death and 15
injured when a fire ripped
through an AC coach of the
Bangalore-Nanded Express early
on Saturday in the district,about
158km from Bangalore.The
fire,suspected to have started
with a short circuit,gutted an
AC-3-tier coach.
The fire could have spread to the
other bogies had the driver not
separated B1 coach from others
after stopping the train near
Kothacheruvu station.This helped
38 people escape the burning
compartment,though some
suffered injuries.
The train had left Bangalore
around 10.45pm on Friday and
the fire was noticed in B-1 coach
around 3.15am when it was
crossing Puttaparthi.Passengers
pulled the chain frantically.
The train did not stop
immediately.The driver stopped
the train a few metres before
Kothacheruvu after he noticed
the chain being pulled
repeatedly, said Sharanabasava,a
passenger who lost his wife and
another family member.
By 3.30am,smoke had engulfed
the entire B1 compartment,killing
26 passengers,including 12
women and two children.Many
died of suffocation as
unbreakable window panes
turned the burning bogie into a
death chamber.Only nine bodies
had been identified till late in the
evening.Fire extinguishers or
other safety mechanisms could
not be accessed,sources
said.Rescue workers pulled out
the charred bodies after the fire
was doused by 5am.At
6.45am,the train resumed its
journey without the B1 coach.
In the afternoon,some
traumatized survivors,who didnt
want to continue their
journey,were sent back to
Bangalore,Belgaum and
elsewhere by bus.The charred
bodies were sent to Victoria
Hospital,Bangalore,for DNA
tests.Railway minister Mallikarjun
Kharge,who rushed to the
spot,said the railway safety
commissioner would probe the
cause of fire.

Mahendra Singh TNN
New Delhi: The major fire in the
Bangalore-Nanded Express
suspected to be caused by an AC
shortcircuit highlighted the
inability
...
of cash-strapped
railways to run all its trains with
fire-resistant LHB coaches.
Today,we are using LHB coaches
in elite trains such as Rajdhani
and Shatabdi, an official
said,adding that railways has
failed to step up production of
German technology-based LHB
coaches,which have safety
system that could save lives in
such emergency situations.
The AC 3-tier coach B-1,fourth
from the engine,which had 67
passengers on board,caught fire
around 3.45 am when most
passengers and support staff
were fast asleep.
Sources said that soon after
driver noticed the fire,he stopped
the train that helped in detaching
ill-fated coach and preventing the
fire from spreading to other
coaches.
The preliminary inquiry found
that electric shortcircuit near AC
unit was the cause of the fire, and
sensing this member (electrical)
Kul Bhusan was rushed to the
spot.
Railway minister Mallikarjun
Kharge,who visited the
site,described the incident as
tragic and most unfortunate.
Kharge also indicated that the
blaze was caused by an electrical
fault.The minister ordered an
inquiry by the Commissioner of
Railway Safety.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
expressed shock and grief at the
loss of life in the train accident in
Andhra Pradesh.
The coach caught fire as it
travelled from Bangalore to
Nanded,300km from
Hyderabad.An official said that
casualty is high as the exit doors
were locked while passengers
were sleeping.Also,the windows
of AC coach were covered with
bars,making escape all but
impossible.
Toilet windows are the only ones
that have no bars and the spaces
and berths are narrow.
The tragedy is the second train
accident in the district.Last
March,25 passengers were killed
near Penukonda in the district
when Bangalore-bound Hampi
Express rammed into a stationary
goods train.
