On this day, the Ranee was first overtaken by the Rajdhani at Dahanu Road, then the Ranee re overtook the Rajdhani at Malad and then this happened!
What an exciting visual treat for any train lover!!

These two classic trains never lose an opportunity to face off each other it seems!
The late running 12922 Flying Ranee Superfast is usually overtaken by the 12954 AK Rajdhani at Palghar. Today however, the Ranee was running behind schedule - and the overtake happened at Dahanu Road itself, 120 kms north off Mumbai. The Rajdhani passed Palghar at MPS 10 minutes before the Flying Ranee arrived there at around 8:25 am.

platform and I found the Rajdhani waiting on platform 6. But left as soon as the Ranee stopped. However, the Ranee too left within 2 minutes and I was sure that they would encounter each other further down the line and thats exactly what happened.
At Malad, the accelerating Flying Ranee brutally overtook the Rajdhani.
Both the trains were hauled by Ghaziabad WAP 5's. The Rajdhani with WAP 5 30009 and the Ranee with WAP 5 30030.
Further down the line, at Goregaon, the Rajdhani encountered the Ranee again and both had a great parallel run till Andheri outer where the Ranee had to slow down and the Rajdhani overtook her again.
All said, no other train except maybe for a very late running (due to some issues) 12952 Mumbai Rajdhani CAN OVERTAKE the AK Rajdhani on WR, I believe!

On the day the Indian Railways completed 160 years of its existence, the Western Railway decided to extend the suburban services (local trains) from Churchgate till Dahanu Road. Until now, local trains terminated at Virar - 60 kilometres from Churchgate. at Palghar station, just as the first ever local on its way to Churchgate was entering the platfrom. Look at the excited bunch of people
The station was jampacked with people and politicians. There was music and overall, the atmosphere was festive.
This is a dream come true for people staying beyond Virar as they now have better connectivity to Mumbai!

Seen here is the 59461 Borivali Dahanu Road Shuttle which leaves Borivali at 16:00 hours and reaches Dahanu Road at 18:05.
This video was taken on the 14th of April 2013 at Palghar - just two days prior to the flagging off of EMU services between Dahanu Road and Churchgate. Due to this change, it is likely that this train would be cancelled and in its place, an EMU service would run.
