Read the newspaper carefully. It says, repair and maintenance of LHB rake of Vikramshila will be done in Jamalpur, and based on this experience, Jamalpur will be given the tasks of repairing other LHB rakes. It does not mean Vikramshila LHB rake has to be repaired now. It's planning for future.

A Walk In The Yard
Small visit to Bhagalpur Yard for the first time. Met 2 RFs at Bhagalpur JN that day and we together explored all the nook and corners of the Yard. 2 Trains were parked there- 15097/15098 Bhagalpur-Jammu Tawi Amaranth Express and 12335/12336 BHAGALPUR-LTT SF Express. Thorough cleaning of Amaranth Express was going on, cleaning of BGP-LTT was already done and it was waiting to be placed on Platform. Enter JMP WDS 6R 36117. Few days ago, this shunter was at Jamalpur but now it was doing its duty here at Bhagalpur. As a result of 24 coacher pitline being pre-occupied, Vikramshila was stranded on PF 1 since it's Arrival. It was brought in the

Yard just after our departure.
Amaranth Express had its coaches of varied bases- Gorakhpur, Chhapra and Lucknow. 2016 made SL was there too while AC coaches were tad too old. Yard workers were working hard for rigorous cleaning of coaches.
BGP-LTT had mixture of new and old coaches - some being of 2015 while some of 90s (one SL was of 1996, SLR of 1999 and 2004), but were almost equally shining.
One shiny, 2006 made, 3ac coach of ER was standing alone. Also, some more coaches of ER were there - SL, Pantry, GS and SLR in 3 groups; some old- some new, some shining- some not so shining.
While heading for the Station, we spotted Gaya-Jamalpur-Rampurhat Passenger departing with JMP WDM 3A 16542R- These days this loco tows Jamalpur-Tilrath/Khagaria DMU. One Brown coloured Camping Coach coupled with a crane and one Auxiliary Medical Van were also standing. One coach was undergoing repairs in Sick Line. A far away glance at the soon to be opened Indian Oil Corporation Diesel Filling Capacity was enough to tell that There would be less diesel wastage in the coming days. Lastly, we encountered the Newly Painted Board of Coaching Complex with LHB Coach being chosen to represent as the logo. We then reached PF 1 of BGP, had a small chat on various topics and finally headed for our pastures.
Overall, it was a great experience for me to witness the live happenings of a Yard, to see how cleaning and maintainence is done and how the standards are followed so that we get clean coaches to travel in. Meeting 2 RFs of the same region, with common thinking and interests was icing on the cake.
More Pics to Follow shortly.

Nice pictures. Bhagalpur coaching depot currently has 2 pit lines, 2 washing lines (one is next to the pit lines and the other next to the mainline), and 2 stabling lines.

Vikramshila pre dates Magadh express.
Named after the ancient Vikramshila University, a center of Buddhist learning, dating to 800 AD established by King Dharmpala of Pala empire, in modern day Bhagalpur district.
Train started in mid-seventies as 167 up / 168 down Vikramshila Express from BGP to DLI. The train departed from BGP twice a week at 14:20 and reached NDLS at 10:55 next day. 1220 kms in 20:40 hours at average speed of 59 km/hr. Later the arrival time at NDLS was changed to 11:55. Train was hauled by

steam engine till MGS and then Electric engine to NDLS. Stops were Jamalpur, Kiul, Mokama, Bakhtiarpur, Patna, Ara, Buxar, Mughalsarai, Allahabad, Kanpur. It was one of the only 20 super fast trains of Indian railways at that time. In mid-eighties the train was made daily from Bhagalpur and run combined with Magadh express between Patna and New Delhi. July 2003, Vikramshila and Magadh were separated. Vikramshila started running between BGP and NDLS with no commercial stop between PNBE and NDLS.

I attached a document from railways that provides details of each platform at Bhagalpur. Platform 2 and 3 is primarily used for passenger trains and a few express trains, not because it cannot accommodate long trains, but because there are other wider and longer platforms (1, 4, 5) that can be used. Also, platform 2 and 3 does not have a shed, is not wide so cannot handle many passengers; and is not connected to all 3 over bridges. I have been to the station and the platform is fairly long. It starts at the same point on the west side as platform 1, and ends about hundred meters before on east side.

After this foot overbridge is completed, railway will demolish the oldest foot overbridge (the one in the middle) due to it's low height, to pave the way for electrification.

Platform 2 and 3 is only 8 meters wide, so they cannot make a wider foot over bridge. However, there are 3 foot over bridges, so crowd will get distributed. Also, long and crowded trains are berthed at platforms 1, 4 and 5. This platform is mostly for passenger trains and a few express trains that are not too long.

Thanks for taking great pictures of Bhagalpur railway Station. Good to see that washable apron on platform 5 has been completed. Now railways should build washable apron on platform 2 and 3 to help keep the station clean.
