Visakhapatnam to be its headquarters
Railway coach factory and 59 model railway stations to come up in the State

Hyderabad: The wishes of north Andhra people will finally come true. The State will have a railway zone with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters. Four railway divisions of Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur and Guntakal would be merged with the new zone. The residuary Andhra Pradesh has no railway zone after bifurcation and the existing South Central Railway, with Secunderabad as headquarters, comes under the new State of Telangana. The new railway zone is being sanctioned as a part of the AP Reorganisation Act of 2014.

A seven-member committee headed by executive director of Railway Board Devender Singh held discussions with the transport department of Andhra Pradesh at the Secretariat here on Thursday afternoon to elicit the opinion of the government on the merger of four divisions under the proposed new railway zone. The committee also discussed the way to set up a rail coach factory and take measures to establish rapid rail and road connectivity from the new capital to Hyderabad and other important cities of Telangana.

The meeting also deliberated on laying new railway line connecting Raipur, Chhattisgarh capital, to Visakhapatnam in order to make use of the ports and for other mutual benefits. “We also discussed about creating 59 model stations with all the modern facilities across the State,” said the Principal Secretary of Roads and Buildings B Syam Bob, while talking to The Hans India.

The members of the committee include executive directors of Railway Board Alok Kumar and Vijay Kumar, chief engineer, SCR NS Uikey, chief mechanical engineer, SCR S K Gupta, AC Ray and SP Samantharay of East Coast Railway, Bhubaneshar.

Grievance Description : Reg: Proposal for SECoR Zone at VSKP as Zonal HQ If ECoR is not willing to loose VSKP to new Railway Zone to be setup in AP (SECoR Zone) or Railway Board cannot include VSKP Division under SECoR due to any reasons, I Have a proposal. VSKP can have 2 Divisions similar to Nagpur under SECR and CR VSKP-ECoR can have VSKP-Kirandul and Rayagada-Koraput railway lines VSKP-SECoR being a Zonal HQ and Division with VSKP-IPM/SPT/PSA, VSKP-Rayagada, VSKP-RJY and Samalkot-COA railway lines. BZA Division needs to transfer RJY-AKP and SLO-COA Lines to VSKP Division. This proposal is win-win for both the states and zones. Orissa(ECoR) no need to worry about revenue. AP(VSKP Region people) no need to worry about Step mother treatment of ECoR.
