Bhagalpur : The railways today announced direct train services between this ancient silk city and Ajmer Sharif in Rajasthan from March. "The services will begin following the introduction of Bhagalpur-Ajmer Sharif train either in the second or the third week of March," Eastern Railway general manager G.C. Agarwal said. He added that since the new train would pass through Uttar Pradesh, where the model code of conduct will be in effect till March 9, 2012 for the ongoing election, running of such rains could not be possible without the green light of the Chief Election Commission. "For that, we have to wait till March 9," he told reporters here. Agarwal, who reached the city on an annual inspection tour from Jamalpur in Munger), expressed his desire for overall development of Bhagalpur railway station, the oldest one on the Kiul-Sahebganj loop section of Eastern Railway. to improve basic facilities for passengers as well as completing conversion of the old loop section into double tracks. He admitted that improvement in basic infrastructures as well as conversion of loop section to double tracks was essential for changing the present scenario. Acknowledging the fact that the Bhagalpur railway station and the old Kiul-Sahebganj loop section have been long neglected, he said introduction of better facilities for the passengers was of utmost importance. Agarwal said two additional platforms would soon be constructed along with two footbridges and a washing pit in Bhagalpur. On the delay in the conversion of Kiul-Sahebganj loop section into double tracks, he said work was on along the section from Bhagalpur to Tinpahar in Jharkhand. At present, except the 5-km stretch from Ratanpur to Jamalpur, Bhagalpur-Kiul section has double tracks. Work for double tracks would be required only between the Bhagalpur-Tinpahar stretch. "For doubling tracks from Ratanpur to Jamalpur, the Railway has to dig a 200-metre new tunnel beside the existing one at Kali Pahari. Since the hills are the parts of a wildlife sanctuary, we have to obtain a no objection certificate from the Union forest ministry and the state forest department. The process is in the pipeline," he added.
