GULBARGA: Passengers of the Okha-Ernakulam express from Gujarat to Kerala were stunned when they saw that their train had reached Gulbarga station in Karnataka on Tuesday. It had been sent on the wrong route at Pune and landed at Gulbarga.
The train was on track till 10.30pm on Monday but passengers were alerted at Punwale that due to an accident near Ratnagiri, the train would be diverted towards Pune and then it would reach Wadgaum in Goa via Miraj. But at Pune, the train was mistakenly diverted to Solapur and then to Gulbarga.

Keerthan, a passenger on the train who was supposed to reach Udupi at 11am Tuesday, got down at Gulbarga and took a bus to reach his destination. He said almost 30 passengers in the bus he was travelling, were passengers from the misrouted train.
Another passenger Nagaraj said the situation was terrible in the train as there was not a single drop of water in all the toilets. "The train would stop outside the station at every place and we couldn't even buy bottled water," he said. Senior citizens and children had a tough time, he added. Nagaraj, an engineer in Surat, was headed to his home town Kundapur in Udupi district in Karnataka.
Many North Indians were travelling in the train. At Gulbarga station, the train was stopped 1km from the station. Later, the train was taken to the station where the station master announced refund of the ticket. For tickets booked online, the refund amount will be credited to the passengers' accounts.
The train reached Gulbarga at 11.30am and was parked 1km from the station and later taken to the station. The train was sent back to Pune and then to Wadgaum via Miraj. At 2.30pm, the train was sent back from Gulbarga to Pune.

MARGAO: At least three trains on the Konkan Railway route were cancelled, 10 diverted along the South Western Railway (SWR) route and four short-terminated on Monday, following the derailment of a goods train between Sangameshwar and Ukshi stations in Ratnagiri region, about 250km from Margao.
Two down trains, Dadar-Margao 'Jan Shatabdi Express' and Ahmedabad-Mangalore Holiday Special, scheduled to leave on Tuesday, have been cancelled, said KRC sources, adding that the route is likely to be restored before noon on Tuesday. A decision on the movement of other trains will be taken following an assessment of the restoration work on Tuesday morning, said sources.
Explaining what had happened, sources said five of a total 41 wagons of the empty goods trains got derailed inside a tunnel at 8.12am. No casualties were reported. "The

cause of the derailment will be determined following investigations, once the route is restored," said Baban Ghatge, chief public relations officer of the Konkan Railway Corporation (KRC), Margao.
By Monday evening, one of the five wagons had been retrieved and the work of restoration of the route was under way, he added. The restoration work has been hampered as the derailment occurred inside a tunnel, making it difficult for the cranes to maneuver through the affected section, which is a single line route.
Margao-Mumbai 'Mandovi Express', up and down 'Matsyagandha Express', and Margao-Mumbai 'Konkan Kanya' Express were cancelled on Monday, while several other up and down trains were diverted along the Londa-Miraj-Pune-Karjat-Panvel route, said KRC officials.
The KRC could also not allow trains headed beyond the derailment spot to continue their journey and instead had to short-terminate several services on the Mumbai-Konkan route. The Diva Sawantwadi Passenger (train no. 50105) was terminated at Chiplun, Sawantwadi Diva (50106) at Kudal, Sawantwadi-Dadar Summer Special (01004) at Adavali, and Dadar-Ratnagiri (50103) at Sangameshwar, a bulletin issued by the KRC stated. KRC subsequently arranged for buses to ferry stranded passengers to the nearest stations from where they could take other trains to reach their destinations, said sources. tnn
Information
Konkan Railway has announced that ticket fares will be refunded to passengers booked on the cancelled and short-terminated trains. It has also announced that passengers can call on 022-27561721/3/4 for any kind of information related to their journey
