LUCKNOW: The festive season has not only made Railways run special trains or increase the number of coaches but also inform passengers about several helpline numbers available wherein they can call up and register complaints. The unauthorized vendors and the sub-standard food items sold by them is a common problem. The surprise checks by Railways, which have been intensified over the last few days, are blowing the lid off of the unauthorized trade. However, now even passengers can play a whistle-blower. Any such complaint can be registered on a helpline number and officers ensure to act on them."All the help lines are functional and people can call up on them when in need," said Neeraj Sharma, senior DCM, Lucknow, NR. Passengers can call up on 9717630982 (for Delhi) and 9794834924 (for Lucknow). The GRP staff said that passengers call up to inform about incidents of pick-pocketing, drugging and chain snatching. "We record the complaint. If immediate help is needed we ensure that and in cases where complaints do not fall under our area of jurisdiction, we forward them to police stations concerned," said a GRP staff.It's not only in the cases of crime that helplines can be called up but also when the coaches or linen is dirty. Railways has started several other helpline numbers like 9794845955 where passengers can register their complaint through SMS. Lucknow control room numbers -- 0522 2233042 can also be dialled by passengers in need of information.The vigilance department of Railways has also started a helpline where people can complain against the over-charging ticket staff, extortion or any corruption-related matter that they come across in railways. NER was the first zonal railway to launch the vigilance help line in 2007. The number (0551 155210) connects passengers directly to vigilance officers of railways. The number, at times, might face connection problem although officers maintain that the number is fully functional. The number might be connecting through a limited number of service providers only.The passenger care cell helpline number (0522 2233034, 9794842457), however, might connect instantly. The number till May 2011 had received 819 complaints."The number mainly receives complaints about lack of cleanliness and water in trains," said the help line staff. The number was launched in May 2010 and has been going great since then.
