COIMBATORE, August 3, 2011
The Railway Police on Tuesday arrested two persons on charges of attempting to transport firecrackers by train.
A team led by Railway Police inspector M. Lawrence, found Manoj (32), son of Gopalan Nair of Palakkad, and Abdul Rahim alias Aneez (26) of Kozhikode loading a parcel on to the Coimbatore – Kannur passenger train. The police intercepted them and on examination found the crackers in two bundles, being transported to Kozhikode for the ensuring Ramzan and Deepavali festival.

police said that transportation of crackers, explosive substances, and inflammables is an offence. The police arrested the duo and seized the crackers worth Rs 25,000 and registered a case under Section 286 of the Indian Penal Code (for negligent conduct with fire or combustible material) read with Sections 67 and 164 of the Railway Act (for attempting to transport crackers/explosive substances).
