The "Tot Seats" figure gives you the Total Available seats for that quota between that pair of stations. This figure gets auto-populated while checking for availability. When checking before 8AM opening date, this figure is exact. When checking at other times a > figure (greater than) is added. This means that there are at least that many seats for that quota.

Yes its correct. Actually the Tot Seats are as on the 120th day from Today.

Check the screenshot. I have taken your example of BCT-ADI in Gujarat Express. The 120th day from today is 12.12.2012. On that day, 421 seats in 2S are available but for some other days, the number is less because bookings have been made.

Now check the September availability. The figure in Tot Seats does not change however the availability has changed because of bookings. So Tot Seats = Tot seats available for selected quota and class of stations for complete ARP of 120 days.

We already have this feature at the bottom of the Availability grid, called "Tot Seats".

When Tot Seats are refreshed before 8AM on the opening day, the figure will be exact. But as it turns out, most people refresh after 8AM - any refresh after 8am will show less seats available, as some of the seats are already booked.
For this reason, please note the sign ">" - this means "greater than". So, "> 160" means that the SL class for that quota has "at least 160 seats". Similarly, "> 3" for 3A means that 3AC has "at least 3 seats". So, as it turns out, the info shown is NOT erroneous. This site is NOT saying that SL has exactly 160 seats. We are just saying that it has at least 160 seats. Even this info

is useful to many people, rather than showing "info not available".
While we all require exact info, IRI does not own or generate the data - we are just trying our best to compile information from publicly available sources.
Thanks.

The feature just gives you an idea of the Total Seats available for that train, between the pair of stations and that quota. For example, if you get a WL of 5 for a certain ticket/class/quota/pair of stations, seeing that the Tot Seats available for that quota is 70 or > 70 will give you an idea of its chances of confirmation. If the Tot Seats figure is 5, then you should have less confidence that the ticket will be confirmed. Our PNR predictors use this along with many other pieces of info, their experience, etc. to predict a ticket's chances of confirmation.
If you see "> 160", then that means that there are at least 160 seats for that quota in

the train. So a WL of 1 with 10 days remaining for that journey, will have a high chance of getting confirmed.
Thanks.
