It may be recalled that Duronto, the non-stop trains, were announced with much fanfare in September 2009. The Duronto venture was the pet project of the then railway minister Mamata Banerjee. Initially, Durontos were only AC-class trains while later a few Durontos (like the ones running to Howrah) had sleeper class bogies too. The advantage of travelling in Duronto is definitely the time factor.
For example, a Duronto train between Bengaluru and Delhi (AC three tier-`2,815) would reach the destination in 31 hours and 20 minutes, while Rajdhani (AC three tier-`2,943) would cover the same distance in 33 hours and 35 minutes. Yeshwanthpur-Katra Premium train (AC three tier-`2,915) takes 43 hours and 45 minutes to complete its journey.

It is a welcome decision by govt. Earlier when Durontos were introduced by Miss Mamta Banerjee there were mainly a few durontos and it was actually done to give benefits to mainly metro city commuters. But please dont forget during their journey they use to stop in the technical stops for not less then 20 minutes where the staff use to get changed and the food packets used to get loaded . So at the same time now the passengers can also board and descend. So no time is lost at all. And it is good facility for the passengers on the way to the destination.
