BHUBANESWAR: The East Coast Railways has decided to resume night train services in the Maoist-affected contiguous regions of Orissa, Jharkhand and West Bengal on Sunday. The trains which will route through the Kharagpur-Tata, Kharagpur-Adra and Rourkela-Chakradharpur sections will travel with adequate safety precautions and at a restricted speed of 75 km per hour between 10 pm and 5 am during the bandh called by the Maoists.As a safety precaution, light engines and goods trains will be run before passenger trains during the nights. According to the schedule released by the ECoR, the Puri-Haridwar Utkal Express will run on normal route - the Cuttack-Bhadrak-Kharagpur-Tata-Jharsuguda route. So will the Haridwar-Puri Utkal Express which will arrive at Jharsuguda on December 12. Regulation of trains ·The 12816 New Delhi-Puri Puri Express arriving at Gomoh Jn. on 9.12.11 at 00.05hrs. will be regulated till 04.00hrs. to avoid night running. ·The 12802 New Delhi-Puri Purushottam Express will run on the normal route via Gomoh Jn.-Bokaro Steel city-Purulia Jn.-Tata Nagar on 9.12.11 and 10.12.11 but shall be regulated at Tata Nagar upto 04.50hrs. on these 2 days.

The South Eastern Railway has been asked to ensure the movement of trains between 10 pm and 5 am in Kharagpur- Chakradharpur division that was restricted from May 28, 2010 following the Janeshwari Express mishap in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district that claimed 148 lives.“To ensure proper security during night movement of trains we have decided to monitor passenger train movement with a pilot engine.Moreover, a goods train will also accompany the passenger train to ensure foolproof security,” said a railway official.The latest decision follows meetings between railway officials and security forces. Garden Reach, headquarters of South Eastern Railway, has been asked to ensure lifting of ban on movement of passenger trains during night time in the in Kharagpur- Chakradharpur including Rourkela sections.It’s been 18 months and 20 days since the Jnaneswari Express derailed. Due to the ban, five night trains, including Kurla Deluxe Express, Mumbai Mail and Howrah-Pune Azad Hind Express, were running from Howrah on rescheduled timings. A few trains, including the Howrah-Hatia Express and Puri-Hardwar Utkal Express, were also made to run on a diverted route.

years.Giving in to the demands of the people, the Railways have decided to end the suspension of night train service on the Maoist-hit Kharagpur-Rourkela region.According to the reports from DRM office, from December 11, the trains will once again start running during night hours on Mumbai-Howrah route. Running of trains at night was suspended in the division immediately after Gyaneshwari Express accident on May 28 following Maoist attack.In the past, demands have been made several times to resume night trains services on this route. More so, officials of Confederation of All India Traders, Chhattisgarh had also handed a memorandum to the Railway Minister.

Train services in Kharagpur-Tata, Kharagpur-Adra and Rourkela-Chakradharpur sections would begin from tomorrow night with safety precautions, said a release by the East Coast Railway headquartered here this evening. The trains carrying passengers would run at a restricted speed of 75 KMPH between 22.00 hrs to 05.00 hrs on these three sections during bandh called by Maoists, the release issued by the chief public relations officer said. Light engines or goods trains would run before trains carrying passengers or convoy of passenger-carrying trains during night as a safety measure, it said. Night services of trains was stopped since May 28 last year when 13 coaches of Mumbai-bound Jnaneswari Express jumped the tracks in West Midnapore district of West Bengal, shortly after which another goods train rammed into the derailed coaches killing 148 people. The 18477 Puri-Haridwar Utkal Express would run on its traditional route of Cuttack-Bhadrak-Kharagpur-Tata-Jharsuguda. The 18478 Haridwar-Puri Utkal Express too would run on normal route but the 08477/08478 Tata-Jarsuguda-Tata special train will be withdrawn from December 12, the release said. The 12802 New Delhi-Puri Purushottam Express will not be regulated at Tata. Similarly, 12816 New Delhi Puri Nandankanan Express and 12282 New Delhi-Puri Duronto Express too will not be regulated over East Central Railway and will run on its scheduled timings with effect from December 13.
