New Delhi : Railways is mulling to withdraw peons posted at officers' bungalows as recommended by the Sixth Pay Commission, a move likely to cause resentment among senior officials.Referred to as telephone attendant and dak khalasi (TADK), more than 5000 peons are currently deployed at the residences of railway officers.Railways is considering to issue notification for withdrawal of peons from the residences of officers, said sources in railways.Railways have already implemented the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations hiking salaries of railwaymen. "The abolition of system was also one of its recommendations," the sources said.In the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations, the peons were upgraded from Group D to Group C employees.Though there are about 15,000 officers in railways, all are not entitled for TADK. "Only Director level and above are entitled for TADK," they said.The system of deploying peons at officers' bungalows is in practise since the colonial days.
