The existing CCTV cameras on the Central network work on analog technology, but the new CCTVs will work on digital technology and have higher resolution for better facial recognition. The control and command system will provide railway officials anywhere in the country access to images from each CCTV camera through the Railways’ intranet as well as the internet. Apart from station buildings and platforms, CCTV cameras will also be installed in railway yards to keep an eye on thefts or sabotage.

The firm will also provide eight vehicle scanners, 11 heavy-duty baggage scanners, two portable baggage scanners, 85 multi-axle doorframe metal detectors, 426 handheld metal detectors and one explosive disposal unit at CST.

An RPF official said, “CST will also get an eletronic vapour detector, which can help detect material used in preparing explosives like RDX.” CR already has 977 CCTV cameras, 95 doorframe metal detectors, 183 handheld metal detectors and four baggage scanners across all its stations in the Mumbai division.
Anil Sharma, inspector general of police, Railway Protection Force (RPF), CR, said, “The contract will be awarded before May end and all equipment will be supplied, installed and commissioned within nine months from the day of signing the agreement.”
