The special staff of south district police on Thursday busted a gang of train robbers and carjackers and arrested five miscreants, including the gang leader, who the police claim is a close associate of the infamous carjacker, Manoj Bakkarwala. With their arrest, the police claimed to have solved several cases of vehicle theft and robbery in trains. The police recovered one pistol with 11 live bullets, a dagger and six robbed cars from the accused. The arrested robbers have been identified as Rattan Chopra alias Pakistani, 33, the gang leader and close associate of Bakkarwala, Jitender, 28, Chander Prakash, 27, Sonu Singh, 25, and Amit, 27. At their instance, other gang members were arrested,” said Sharma.The gang, Sharma said, moved in stolen cars with fake number plates and carried weapons for committing crime. They looked for luxury cars and robbed the occupants by scaring them with weapons.“Apart from vehicle theft, the gang has also committed chain snatchings and robberies in moving trains. They used to stop the trains in secluded areas by using a coin in the track to complete circuit to change the signal from green to red. As soon as the train halted, the gang members used enter the AC compartments and rob the passengers on gunpoint,” added Sharma.
