The police on Tuesday arrested Joseph, 45, alias Chemmachan Jose, member of an inter-State theft gang, from Irinjalakuda Railway station. According to the police, Joseph is involved in theft of 198 sovereigns of gold, 2.5 kg of silver, Rs. 1,70,000 and a motorcycle from various places in Thrissur and Palakkad districts. He used to sell the stolen properties in Bangalore and Coimbatore, the police said. He got the nick name Chemmachan Jose after his brief stint as an employee at the CMI congregation in Coimbatore. —
