an accident the road doctor machine has been left unused, he said.
Slums to be developed
There were 1,400 slums in the GHMC jurisdiction and all these would be development with required amenities, Mr. Somesh Kumar said.
In the old city, a proposal has been mooted on building apartments with required facilities in place of small houses and a consultant has been appointed to study the concept. “If this is taken up, it will usher in a remarkable change in the old city,” he said.
The Commissioner also said it was mandatory for all multi-storeyed buildings, hospitals, multiplexes, offices and commercial establishments to install fire safety measures. The appeal to these establishments to enrol for fire safety certificate by November 20 did not evoke positive response, Mr. Somesh Kumar adding that strict actions would be initiated against buildings that do not have required fire safety measures.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) went ahead with construction of Pachalam overbridge on Friday despite the ongoing agitation by a section of people.
“The agitation affected works in the morning. But civil works gained momentum by afternoon. We requested police presence over pillars too since a few agitators pelted stones at workers atop pillars. The agitation over ‘non-issues’ halted works for over three months. The bridge would have been ready by now but for frequent disruptions by people with vested interests,” sources said. The District Administration had expressed support for resuming works, they said. A few agitators are demanding a four-lane bridge in place of two-lane bridge whose work is half way through. Another group allege the bridge will affect a temple, something which DMRC contests as untrue.
