Three women were run over by a speeding train near Jhalda railway station in Purulia district early on Monday morning.
The incident occurred at 5.42 a.m. when Bhagalpur Ranchi Express was crossing the Jhalda railway station with a high speed. A press release issued by the South Eastern Railways claimed that driver of the train tried to apply emergency brakes but could not save the lives of the three women. Since there was no scheduled stoppage at Jhalda station, it was running at a high speed.
The deceased were identified as Budhini Rajak (45) Panchami Raja (20) and Niyati rajak (50) all residents of Purulia town.
