Local BJP leaders said all important approvals for the metro rail project have come through. They said the ground-breaking ceremony for the project is likely to be around December 24 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi may visit the city .

doing all to ensure that the project received the approvals from the Centre before the forthcoming municipal elections.
The ambitious project had recently received a nod from the Finance Ministry .Earlier in August, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had obtained clearance from the Railway ministry for the project.
The project's revised estimate announced by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in June 2015, is pegged at Rs 11,522 crore, a hike of Rs 653 crore from the 2014 estimate. It has already received a much-needed boost with the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank which have approved Rs 6,325 crore loan. The PMC in its civic budget for financial year 2016-17 has made provision of Rs 67 crore for the project.
The government had in June 2015 given a green signal to the changes in the proposed routes. The alignment of the route was shifted from JM Road to alongside Mutha river.
Agroup of prominent personalities, however, have opposed the change of route on the grounds that the same will pass through a 1.7km stretch of the Mutha river bed. They have filed environmental interest litigation before the National Green Tribunal's western region bench in Pune. This matter is listed for hearing before the tribunal on Wednesday .
A delegation of the BJP MLAs from Pune visited Nagpur metro rail project on Tuesday . A presentation of project was made to the elected members. The delegation al so went to the sites, where the construction of corridors is underway .
“The metro rail project in Nagpur is gathering momentum. The people working on the project gave information about the modern technologies used in this project. The works are going on at good speed. The metro in Pune too will be speeded up,“ guardian minister Girish Bapat.
Nagpur metro officials said the actual ground work will start in three months after the clearance of rail project.Steps such as a ground survey , issuing tenders and allotment works will be completed during that period.
