PUNE: Regular railway commuters in Pune-Daund section have demanded immediate introduction of electric local trains to ensure faster services. Commuters have said that electrification work of Pune -Daund track was completed about couple of month back and railways have already started use of electric locomotives for goods and passenger trains. Now, the initiative needs to extend for local trains without any delay. Vishal Madhav Karmane, a regular commuter in Daund section said that thousands of students, entrepreneurs, officer goers' travel in Daund bound shuttle everyday are eagerly waiting for introduction of local trains. Existing shuttles are proving insufficient to cater to increasing passenger footfall. There is a need to introduce at least 12 trips of local trains through out the day to cater to large number of commuters who travel every day to Pune and back to their homes, he said. Railways at present play shuttle up to Daund besides there...
are passenger trains up to Baramati which are used by commuters to travel up to Pune. Commuters have claimed that shuttle trains do not have separate coaches for ladies and first class. Commuters have demanded for extension of Lonavla-Pune local train services up to Daund and Baramati.
