The State government has sanctioned Rs. 2.83 crore for the Corporation for executing the work to widen the railway underpass at Bodinaickenpatti near the Salem Railway Junction.
The underpass that serves as a link between Bodinaickenpatti and Kavery Nagar in Ward 20 in Suramangalam Zone was constructed in 1927. Due to mushrooming of residential areas on the other side of the bridge, movement of vehicles got increased.
Residents in the area have been demanding for widening the underpass for over 20 years. However, the railways clarified that it is a water-way and widening
can be done only with contributions by the corporation.
Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer K.R. Selvaraj said that the Commissionerate of Municipal Administration, Chennai has accorded administrative sanction for the works and allotted funds.
