KOLKATA: Fog persisted in Delhi and surrounding areas on Sunday disrupting rail traffic, with a number of city-bound trains running late. Eighty-one Delhi-bound trains were behind schedule, ranging from 4-10 hours, and 40 trains were rescheduled, a senior railway official said.
A railway official in Kolkata said the trains were running 14-28 hours behind schedule, and over 15 trains leaving Kolkata were rescheduled. "Visibility has remained low, especially after evening and in the early morning, so much so that railway signals can be seen only from up close. Hence our drivers are forced to go very slow or just wait for the fog to subside," said an official. The slow movement has delayed arrival of trains from north India, which has forced
officials to reschedule departures from Howrah, Sealdah and Kolkata stations. "I had a shoot in Varanasi from Monday afternoon. I had to cancel my Howrah-Jodhpur Express tickets since it got rescheduled to Monday morning. The flight tickets cost Rs 8,000 each for me and my team of four. I don't know if my client will bear this cost," said Raunak Singh, a city-based creative wedding photographer.
