Union Railway minister Suresh Prabhu, on Sunday, announced that the proposed weekly train from Goa to Tirupati will be launched by the end of January, 2017. Prabhu, at a function, held in Margao on Septmeber 4, had announced that the train would start after September 15. He attributed the delay in commencement of the train to “some sort of logistical changes” that need to be effected to facilitate the introduction of the train to the pilgrim town. Besides the demand for the Goa-Tirupati train, restoration works of Vasco–Mumbai express trains via Londa, Belgaum and Pune, and also of Vasco-Miraj and Vasco-Bijapur express trains have been long pending.
