HYDERABAD: Work pertaining to razing a portion of the Begumpet post office are in full swing to make way for the proposed metro rail.
The L&T-HMRL had asked India Post, Hyderabad, to hand over third floor (top portion) of the post office last year, but postal authorities demanded 3 crore towards compensation for the third floor postmaster residential quarter. As per the revenue records, the Begumpet post office, a ground+three floor-structure, was built on a lease land of nearly 400 square yards."The L&T-HMRL authorities agreed to construct a new post office at Vikarabad at a cost of nearly 60 lakh. We have asked the postal department to submit design for the new post office," L&T-HMRL managing director NVS Reddy told TOI.
third floor of the post office become a hurdle to lay viaduct for the metro rail. With this, the decks have been cleared for the metro rail works at the location.
