Reduction of Tatkal quota is again done by IR to extract even more from the targeted section of paxs!!!

Of the 20% seats released from tatkal quota and transferred to flexi quota
only 2% seats shall be at normal fare (NF),

next 2% at 120% of NF,
next 2 % at 130% of NF,
next 2% at 140% of NF, and
rest 10% at 150% of NF, so
the avg collection of these seats via flexi fare shall be 135% higher (for SL, ACII, ACC classec) and 130% for ACIII class

For example, in case of NZM-MAS Duronto for ACII/ACIII/SL classes,
3925/2835/1210 is the Normal fare in Rs and
4425/3255/1410 is the the Tatkal fare in Rs
5565/3740/1620 is the max. FlexiFarein Rs.
520/420/200 is extra fare paid for tatkal ticket
1640/905/410 is extra fare paid for Flexifare ticket by majority of paxs (top slab).

Above shows how draconian Flexifare is as compared to Tatkal, Hence tatkal seats reduced from 30% to just 10% and converted to flexi seats.
The tatkal surcharge collected as % of normal fare works out to be only 16.5/19.7/24.5, which is much less than the avg surcharge of 35%(for ACII,ACC,SL)/ 30%(for ACIII) for flexifare.

Other benefit to IR is flexifare can be collected 4 months in advance and Tatkal fare is collected just a day before journey, so interest on money is additional benefit to IR.
