Passengers at Tatanagar station will soon get to enjoy a variety of delicacies in AC comfort at a new food plaza set to come up on platform one.
Construction work on the new food plaza, coming up where the ticket counters were before they were moved to the ground floor of PRS (passenger reservation system) building, began last week. The Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway (SER) has fixed a deadline of March 2017 for opening the multi-cuisine food plaza.
"Construction work of the food plaza will take two months to complete. We

will open the facility for passengers in March," Satyam Prakash, senior divisional commercial manager of Chakradharpur railway division, said.
A Delhi-based private agency had bagged the work order to construct the 1,400sqft food plaza. "We gave the space, while Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation will run it," the senior railway official said, adding the food plaza would provide vegetarian and non-vegetarian fare.
Once ready, the food plaza will be another much-needed amenity for the A-1 category station, which has already taken several steps to offer a better experience to travellers. For instance, the station has a food plaza on platform one but it is small and serves only North Indian and South Indian dishes, snacks, beverages and ice cream.
Station manager O.P. Sharma said that passengers who are sticklers for hygienic food would find the new food plaza to their liking. "It will fulfil the aspirations of railway passengers and users for quality and hygienic food in a comfortable ambience," he said.
Chhotanagpur Passenger Association members welcomed the move. "The Chakradharpur railway division's decision to open a new food plaza is commendable," said U.K. Srivastava, a member of the passenger association as well as the divisional railway users' consultative committee.
