traders bodies, service and other organisations had taken up the matter with the Divisional Railway Manager and other senior authorities pleading with them to extend the train service.
V. Panneer Selvam, MP Salem constituency, too had pleaded for the extension of this train service.
A release of the Salem Railway Division issued here on Monday said that “with a view to catering to the demands from various quarters, the Southern Railway has decided to extend the operation of the Erode – Chennai Egmore day-time special train till December 30”.
The release called upon the commuters of the western districts to extend good patronage to enable the Railways to consider further extension or even converting this into a regular service.
The Attur Chamber of Commerce has thanked the Southern Railway and the Salem Railway Division for favourably considering the pleas of the commuters.
L. R. C. Ravishankar, president, and M. Habeeb Hussain, secretary of the Attur Chamber of Commerce, said that the chamber would take all steps to create awareness among the local people for increasing the patronage.
R. Sivakumar, president of the Tourist Guides Association, Attur, too has hailed the decision of the Railways.
Even as various traders bodies and other organisations that had been pleading for a day-time train, this temporary service had immensely benefited Chennai-bound passengers from Erode,Salem, Attur, Kallakurichi and Villupuram. With Christmas and Pongal season ahead, the train was expected to have increased patronage.
