A general second class compartment has been attached to Train no. 12694 Thoothukudi-Chennai Egmore Pearl City Express. Earlier this train hauled 23 bogies — six air-conditioned coaches, 12 sleeper compartments, two luggage vans and three general compartments. M. Piramanayagam, secretary of Thoothukudi District Passengers’ Welfare Association said here on Wednesday that this train which departed from Thoothukudi at 8 p.m. was supposed to reach Chennai Egmore at 7.50 a.m. but often reached late. He said their association had appealed to the railway authorities to reschedule the Pearl City Express timing to facilitate arrival in Chennai before 7 a.m.
