The display of the National Flag on locomotives has come in as a pleasant surprise for the train commuters here.
The Indian Railways took the unique initiative of displaying the National Flag on all the locomotives to promote patriotism among the travelling public and also the railway employees as part of the Independence Day celebrations this year.
The tricolour, in paint form, is displayed below the front lookout glass on the assistant loco pilot side on all existing and new locomotives. The Diesel Loco Shed at Erode, attached to the Salem Railway Division,
launched the work of painting the National Flag on the locomotives as soon as the announcement was made in this regard.
It has already completed the work of displaying the National Flag on all the 149 diesel locomotives under its maintenance.
At present, all the locomotives in the Salem Railway Division have the tricolour showcased on them, according Salem Railway Division sources.
Hailing the move, K. Murugan, member of the Mohanur Rail Commuters Welfare Association in Namakkal district, said a large number of people belonging to different regions and following various faiths travel in the trains regularly and the display of the National Flag would imbibe the feeling of oneness among them.
