Soon Delhi Metro’s train will whizz past with advertisements on its exterior with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on Saturday inducting its first such train. In all, 15 trains — seven on the Jahangirpuri-HUDA City Centre (Line 2) and eight on the Dwarka Sector 21-Noida City Centre/Vaishali — will be inducted soon. The first train was inducted on the Dwarka-Vaishali route going towards Vaishali. The first train on Line 2 will also be inducted by next week. “Currently, only six coach trains are being wrapped. Gradually, trains on other corridors will also be covered,” a DMRC spokesperson. The advertisement wraps are part of the Delhi Metro’s steps to augment the non-operational revenues through advertisements. “Currently, the DMRC operates a fleet of over 200 train sets with over 60 eight-coach trains and over 80 six-coach trains. The ‘train wraps’ have been permitted on 10 per cent of the total train sets available on...

While the suspense continues about the probable alignment changes on the Metro Rail corridors, a significant breakthrough has been achieved in providing the right of way at a key site. The ISKCON temple authorities have agreed to allow the overhead viaduct across their property without affecting their two main structures.
Senior Metro Rail officials, declining to be identified, indicated that a broad agreement was reached with the temple authorities to permit construction in 18 metre wide corridor inside, on crossing Sangeet crossroads junction. A sum of close to six crore rupees is to be paid as compensation for acquiring 6,000 sq.yards of the land.
It comes as a shot in the arm for the beleaguered Metro Rail officials as the issue was hanging fire over the last couple of years and had

become a major bottleneck on corridor three – Nagole – Shilparamam - Raidurg route. Apparently, patient negotiations with the property owners concerned and the Government’s support has ensured some recalcitrant cases to come around.
Senior officials are now quietly confident of acquiring parts of a prominent club in Begumpet too.
“Over the years we have managed to take over more than 1,000 properties along with old Gandhi Hospital land and defence properties through persuasion and attractive compensation package,” they point out.
Court cases
Still about 500 properties including 281 key ones have to be acquired. Some of these also come under Urban Land Ceiling Act and Government Vested Municipal (GVMs) properties – listed as Government lands on official records. Thus far, 156 GVMs have been acquired while 100 more are left.
Significant number of remaining GVMs are on the Greenlands-Jubilee Hills route (4.5 km), also on corridor three. Only a few piers or pillars of viaduct of 117 planned have come up on this stretch due to a court case by the affected persons. The HC has already heard both parties and final judgement is awaited.

A drama was enacted at the Thanjavur Railway junction when MDMK general secretary Vaiko led a group of cadres owing allegiance to various political affiliations staged a rail roko in support of farmers’ protest against Karnataka constructing reservoirs across the Cauvery.
A strong police posse prevented Mr. Vaiko and surging protesters from entering the junction premises by erecting barricades. The protesters’ plan was to picket the Tiruchi-Chennai Egmore Cholan Express but police thwarted them and the train quietly left the junction unhindered.
While the push and pull play was being enacted outside the junction, around 20 cadres belonging to the People’s Art and Literature Association (PALA), masquerading as passengers, pulled the emergency chain of the Nagore-Thanjavur-Tiruchi Passenger as it began to leave, catching the police and railway authorities off guard.

The activists addressed the fellow passengers of their intention to detain the train, jumped out and climbed the locomotive engine raising slogans denouncing Karnataka and the Centre. The train was detained for about 30 minutes.
By then, Mr. Vaiko and other protesters broke through the police cordon, entered the junction premises and found that there was no train to force a halt. Standing on the track, Mr. Vaiko hit out at the Karnataka government, terming it sectarian. He also criticised the Centre for “ignoring” Karnataka’s excesses. If rivers were not nationalised, then the present inter State rivers might become international rivers, he said.
Earlier, Naam Tamizhar Katchi leaders eulogised slain LTTE supremo V. Prabhakaran and promised a separate Tamil Eelam.

The stalemate between the government of Telangana and L&T Company, which is constructing the metro rail project, has finally almost ended as the government assured the company that it would bear the additional cost if the company agreed to change the alignments in the pre-declared metro route.
Metro project’s MD NVS Reddy told media that CM KCR assured to bear the additional charges and they have already started assessing the loss in case the changes are invoked in the route map of metro. “The KCR is keen on building the Hyderabad as universal city. He also mentioned some changes in the pre-designed metro route assuring the additional cost. We’ve started assessing how much it takes and will convey an amount once it is over, and will also go according to that plan” he said. - See more at: ...

They’ll replace older machines and will be placed at the end of railway foot over bridges at most railway stations to enable commuters to buy tickets as soon as they enter the premises
Railway commuters now have some reason to rejoice. By the end of this month, the Western Railway (WR) will have procured 400 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs). They will soon replace older ATVMs. Some new sealed machines have already been placed at Borivli, Kandivli and Andheri railway stations since a week. “We are procuring around 400 new ATVMs that would be installed at various railway stations by the end of this month,” said Sharat Chandrayan, chief public relation officer of WR. Until recently there were many issues with the older ATVMs. Most of them were not functional and railway authorities had received a lot of complaints from the

public regarding the same. One of the major problems was with the reading of cards and printing of tickets, which has now been sorted. Sources said the new machines would be placed at the end of railway foot over bridges (FOBs) at most railway stations. This will allow people to buy tickets as soon as they enter the premises, rather than standing in serpentine queues. Officials said that ATVMs would also be placed at the entrance of Metro rail at Andheri station on the WR premises as commuters have complained that there is no integration between the two rail systems when it comes to ticketing. Moreover, even the renewal of ATVM smart cards will be easier and at least one ticket counter at every station will have provision for its renewal. If commuters buy or renew smart cards then they get an additional refill of five per cent on the amount purchased or refilled. - See more at: click here

Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu asks CR authorities to fall in line and resolve technical glitches
Be punctual and remove glitches. This is what the new Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu told railway authorities at a high-level meeting held late night on November 21 in Mumbai. Over the last few weeks, officials have missed the deadline to convert the overhead power lines from 1,500-volt Direct Current (DC) to 25,000-volt Alternating Current (AC) supply on the Central Railway. Consequently, the maintenance work has been hampered, leading to delays in services due to technical glitches and failures. On November 22, this newspaper had reported about these two issues in the article ‘Nightmare on CR to continue as power upgradation delayed’.
Minister seeks time-bound plan

said that Prabhu has asked for a time-bound plan to address the problems on the suburban system and ensure that the Kalyan Yard, which sees the movement of as many as 950 train services every day, is repaired and maintained at the earliest. “He has also asked the Railway Board to expedite the process of 1500-volt DC to 25000-volt AC power conversion between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) to Thane and provide appropriate technical inputs to strengthen Mumbai suburban system,” said Narendra Patil, chief public relations officer of Central Railway.
These two issues have not been addressed at all. As a result, three different sets of trains are running; one that runs purely on DC line, second that runs on both DC and AC power and third one purely on AC lines. Most of the old trains run on slow tracks while the new ones run on fast tracks. Prabhu also instructed CR to take up maintenance on war footing so that trains can again run on maximum permissible speed and speed restrictions are removed.
Thane-Kalyan: Crucial stretch
The section between Thane and Kalyan is critical as maximum number of trains is delayed between this stretch. “We started strengthening tracks, overhead cables and other vital assets from November 1 on this section. All the Sunday mega blocks have been availed on fast corridor in this section only,” said a CR official on condition of anonymity.
Apart from this, blocks of shorter duration on Saturday and special night blocks, too, are being carried out. About 300 permanent staff were deployed for track maintenance over the fortnight who were diverted from other divisions of Central Railway. Now, about 200 contract labourers and 100 departmental tracks maintainers are working daily to replace track components such as switch, crossing, sleepers and fittings.
“The temporary speed restrictions are being reviewed on a daily basis and the situation is likely to normalise by November 30,” added Patil. They have removed 16,200 bags of muck, replaced 5,100 worn out pads, 1,400 sleepers, 17 crossings used by trains to switch tracks and 383 metres of old rails at Kalyan.
