Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister for Railways flagged off Howrah-Yesvantpur Humsafar Express and inaugurated/dedicated a number of passenger amenity works spreading over Chakadharpur, Adra and Ranchi Divisions of South Eastern Railway by remote from Darjeeling, this afternoon (20.01.2017). These apart, a large number of developmental works of Eastern, Metro and North East Frontier Railways were also dedicated to the passengers.

As a commitment to society & rail users, Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Minister for Railways also launched Wi-Fi facility at Tatanagar Station, inaugurated 40 Kilowatt Solar Panel at Chakradharpur station, Foot Over Bridge at Sirjam Station of Adra Division, Improved Passenger Amenities at Purulia Station and dedicated to the passengers UTS-cum-PRS at Adra South Booking Office & Renovated Circulating Area at Hatia Station by remote. Prominent Public dignitaries like Hon’ble MPs and MLAs were present to share the railway developments.
Shri Arup Roy, Hon’ble Minister In-charge, Co-operation, Govt. of West Bengal attended the programme at Howrah Station, New Complex and addressed the gathering. Shri S.N.Agrawal, General Manager, South Eastern Railway apprised the Hon’ble Minister about the details of Howrah-Yesvantpur Weekly Humsafar Express and various passenger amenity steps taken by South Eastern Railway. Shri Ghanshyam Singh, General Manager, Eastern Railway welcomed the distinguished guests of the programme.
Today, the Special Humsafar Weekly Express (02887) left Howrah at 15.00 hrs. for its inaugural run and would reach Yesvantpur at 23.55 hrs, tomorrow. However, the regular run of 22887/22888 Howrah-Yesvantpur-Howrah Weekly Humsafar Express will start from 26.01.2017 from Yesvantpur and from 31.01.2017 from Howrah.
22887 Weekly Humsafar Express leaving Howrah every Tuesday at 12.40 hours will reach Yesvantpur, the next day at 21.35 hours. In the return direction, 22888 Weekly Humsafar Express leaving Yesvantpur every Thursday at 09.55 hours will arrive Howrah at 18.30 hours, the next day.
The Weekly Humsafar Express consisting of 17 coaches (AC 3 Tier-16 & Pantry Car-1) will have stoppages at Kharagpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Khurda Road, Brahmapur, Palasa, Srikakulam Road, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, o­ngole, Renigunta and Katpadi between Howrah and Yesvantpur.

Shri Sanjay Sankrityayan, Inspector General cum Chief Security Commissioner, Railway Protection Force, South Central Railway stated that ensuring safe and secure travelling of passengers is done religiously o­n the Zone. Intensive checks are being carried out regularly in trains and stations to provide hassle free and secure rail journey to the passengers. RPF is escorting 200 vulnerable long journey trains every night for safety and security of women and disabled passengers said the Chief Security Commissioner interacting with media today i.e., 20th Jan, 2017 at Rail Niliyam, Secunderabad. Shri G.M. Eswara Rao, Addl. Chief Security Commissioner, RPF, SCR, and Senior RPF officials were also present during the Press Conference.

the year 2016, RPF received 732 complaints through all India Security Helpline number 182. All of these complaints were attended and rendered timely assistance to resolve the grievances said the Chief Security Commissioner and called upon the media to create awareness o­n the Security Helpline number 182 for optimal and judicious utilization of the service. He asked the people to be vigilant in station premises and in trains regarding any unattended luggage or any nuisance issue and any if observed shall be brought to the immediate notice of the RPF. Timely sharing of information with RPF will go a long way in ensuring safety and security of passengers added the Chief Security Commissioner. RPF detected Rs 4.54 crore worth of property under IPC, Customs, Forests & other Acts during the year 2016. Constant vigil and other pro-active measures taken have reduced unauthorized carrying of gold, silver, narcotics etc., through Railways.
In regards to rescue and rehabilitation of run away children, RPF in coordination with local NGOs rescued 813 run away children and have been re-united with their families. In order to curb the menace of unauthorized persons/touts and criminal elements in stations and trains, special drives were launched resulting in arrest of 134 touts, 1.09 lakh unauthorized hawkers were prosecuted. RPF has also apprehended around 400 criminals who were involved in theft of passenger belongings, he added.
Further he informed that SCR has installed CCTV surveillance systems at 42 stations by the end of 2016 to control crime in the railway premises. Proposals have been finalized to install 1938 CCTV cameras in 78 stations o­n the Zone through a special sanction of Rs 34.63 crores under Nirbhaya Fund. Under Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, littering of railways premises is viewed seriously. About 21,127 persons found littering were penalized and realized an amount of Rs 42 lakhs said the Chief Security Commissioner.

to submit their Aadhaar details o­nline o­n IRCTC website(for e-tickets) or through the reservation offices from 01.12.2016 o­nwards. The Aadhaar verification for getting concessional tickets for senior citizens shall be o­n voluntary basis from 1st January 2017 to 31stMarch 2017 and shall be made mandatory from 1st April 2017. The other modalities are as under:-
·Verification shall be optional during the implementation of 1st phase if senior citizen want to purchase ticket o­n full fare.
·There shall be no change in procedure as regards concession to senior citizens in Unreserved Ticketing.
·With effect from 01.04.2017, during journey senior citizen passengers shall carry any of the original documents including Aadhaar Card as notified from time to time for the purpose of identify proof.
·There shall be no change in other terms and conditions as regards concession to senior citizens in passenger fares.
