Shri Harindra Rao, General Manager, Eastern Railway reviewed the safety in a high level meeting of Principal Heads of Departments at Eastern Railway’s Headquarters at Fairlie Place this morning (24.5.2017). At the outset, Shri Goutam Banerjee, Chief Safety Officer, presented the safety scenario of Eastern Railway and the matter concerning for immediate attention of Divisions as well as major departments like Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, S & T and Traffic Department. General Manager asked the Divisions to give emphasis on the safety front as it is one of the most sensitive and priority issue. He made it clear to all concern that no compromise will be made so far as the safety is concerned. He also put a lot of stress on maintenance of track & intensive maintenance of all points and crossings etc.
General Manager also advised for better coordination with Divisions and the Principal Heads of Departments of all departments. All issues concerning to safety operations of train movements and passenger amenities related issues should be discussed and sorted out on priority on short-term basis for immediate redressal and on long term basis as permanent redressal.
In the meeting the previous year safety related issues and current year’s safety related issues were discussed in detail. The progress of safety related work was also reviewed. General Manager gave directions to adhere to all safety norms and ensure safety in train operations with all priority. In this connection, it may be mentioned here that action plan was prepared, based on the necessity for replacement of tracks, signal equipments by all Divisions. He has asked that all the works should be competed within a targeted time to ensure safety.
Later, he discussed about the punctuality and reviewed all loss of punctuality cases on case to case basis and advised for taking up immediate measures to improve the punctuality.

- Manduadih (Weekly) Special train on Special fare (4 trips) Train No. 09023 Surat - Manduadih (Weekly) Special train on Special fare will leave Surat at 14.10 hrs on every Tuesday and will reach Manduadi station at 16.00hrs. the next day (Wednesday). This train will run on 30th May & 6th June, 2017. Similarly, Train No 09024 Manduadih (Weekly) Special train on Special fare will leave Manduadih at 19.00 hrs on every Wednesday and will reach Suratat 19.35hrs. the next day (Thursday). This train will run on 31st May & 7th June, 2017. The train will halt at Udhna, Nandurbar, Amalner, Jalgaon, Bhasawal, Khandwa, Itarsi, Pipariya, Jabalpur, Katni, Satna, Manikpur, Allahabad and Gyanpur Road stations in both directions. Stone throwing cases were shown an increase recently over Western Railway, as 34 cases of stone throwing were reported from January, 2017 to May, 2017. According to a Press Release issued by Western Railway, stone throwing is a bad menace & such offences are serious social crimes. Western Railway has urged its passengers not to involve in such type of social evil to secure the national property in the interest of nation. Stone throwing cases affects the train movements and punctuality as well as can injure passengers or on duty drivers and Guards of the train. According to Railway Act, if a person maliciously hurting or attempting to hurt person travelling by Railway, he shall be punishable with imprisonment for life or with imprisonment for a term which may extend to ten years.

Promptness in arresting technical failures and alertness during duty is needed to ensure optimal Safety and Efficiency on the Railways, asserted Shri Vinod Kumar Yadav, General Manager, South Central Railway while addressing a meeting to review Safety, Punctuality and Performance of the Zone with Principal Heads of Departments present today i.e., 22nd May, 2017 at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad.
