Sijua on the DHN-KTH-CRP sub-section on the CIC line is a great place for railfanning. Trains here travel at a very low MPS, due to underground fire. This section was founded during colonial times in 1880, and in that way it precedes the Grand Chord, which was built in 1903.
At 1880 the Dhanbad-Jharia & the DHN-KTH-PLJE section was built and the tracks were laid down for the purpose of loading coal.Jharia and Katras in those days were tiny kingdoms, while Dhanbad was a small village. The coal in Jharia and Katras were the very best in the country, and as such the British made a deal with the local rulers to
...
construct a railway line to Jharia & Katras. Sitting prettily in between Katras & Jharia, this small village Dhanbad was chosen as the terminus for this two lines. However there was a requirement for the construction of a Loco Tank for watering the engines, as well a loco shed for maintainance of the locos. The nearest loco shed, the then 'East Indian Railways' largest was at Sitarampur with which Dhanbad had no rail link. This was because the Damodar was then the 'Sorrow of Bengal'. Every year it flooded and caused the deaths of thousands. Even the british had tried for several years to built a bridge, but the monsoon flooding would undo every progess they made. And as such there were rail lines which terminated at Barakar. But with the discovery of rich coal areas, the british wanted them to be directly connected with the industrial heartlands of Calcutta.
This is how a small unknown village, by virtue of it's sheer luck happened to become a not only a railway terminus, but also housed 'EIR's' largest loco tank as well as largest loco shed!
After the completion of this route, the british suddenly realised that if they they laid a railway tracks from Howrah to Gaya to 'Moghulsarai' (The British name for now Mughalsarai), they happened to reduce the distance from Calcutta to Delhi even further. The Brits toiled for years and bridges were laid across the Damodar, the Phalgow and the '5km streching' Sone!
Tunnels were laid across the Gurpa & Gajhandi forrests, and curves bulit to counter the steep gradient change as the Chotanagpur Plateau receded. Finally with much fanfare Lord Minto innargurated the Grand Chord in 1906,at Gajhandi. Meanwhile the British had extended the DHN-PLJE all the way to Madhya Pradesh, and named it as the CIC section.
With the completion of the Grand Chord however, Dhanbad was connected to Calcutta as well and Delhi directly and as such, in a small space of time became a important junction on the Grand Chord. It became the center of Coal-Loading and passenger travel, as both Jharia and Katras lost their past influences, somewhat.
Within a space of 100 years a small unknown village has become a thriving industrial city! And all this started because of this two railway lines!
It is sad that both these railway lines hav had to become victims of Underground Fires, caused by pure negligence!
While the Dhanbad-Jharia line is already history, the DHN-PLJE section is counting it's last breaths! Alternate routes are being planned, and soon this line will fade into Oblivion.....................................
Coming back to the present. It was a hot sunny afternoon and myself and my friend found ourselves at Sijua station waiting to catch the Jhargram-Dhanbad MEMU to Dhanbad.
While standing the overhead bridges, we spotted three trains in the space of 1 hours. We spotted two WAM-4s, 2 WAG-9s, a WAG-7, and the MEMU itself!
However as a tribute to the WAM-4, the 'Rahul Dravid of Indian Railways', for it's selfless 40 years of service, we clicked the pictures of the two WAM-4s only!
Picture 1-5 shows MGS WAM-4 bring in the DHN-CRP passenger.
Picture 6 shows TATA WAM-4 speed by with the marathon runner ALLP-DHN Express.
Hope you enjoyed this railfanning report, I added a touch of the history of the CIC section as well!

pata nahin sab log cdg shatabdis ke peeche kyun pade hain
For today (6-April Weekday)
12005 ki curr_availability 332 hai out of 1014 seats.. that means 67% train is occupied
12045 ki curr_availability 366 hai out of 702 seats.. 48 % full
12013
...
ki curr_availability 179 hai out of 1014 seats.. 82.3 % full
Till the the time train departs the availability will be close to 70%, 50% and 85% which is decent keeping in mind that today is a weekday and flexi fare is also in picture. With these figures how can anyone justify that Tejas is not required for this section.
Please dont just see the availability in the upcoming days. these trains get occupancy due to last minute travellers. Some might not belive during the course of writing this blog around 10 seats were taken in teh first two trains
Also CDG-Delhi sector has more than 10 dedicated flights which are operating only because there is a potential in this sector
CDG-Delhi Volvos are about 30 in number which always go full and fare is more than 600 rs.

Exctly sir...I understand that very well..This is one of the high priority and high revenue generating sector along with Mumbai-Pune and Mumbai-Surat-Ahmedabad as well..And yes there are very last minutes travellers as well...And Tejas was meant for the high speed corridors of IR...And also placs where pax are willing to pay such price for tickets as well..
And I think maybe after Tejas will be announced it would run end to end without any stoppage in between..
That will make NR to increase the stoppage of Shatabdis as well to make it available

This train should get an extension to ASN with a slight change in the TT of the down train. ASN has only 2 daily trains for KGP- one express at early morning and a pass at evening. So if it gets extended to ASN with additional halt at MCA, BZN, ULB which don't have any connections with ASN then it will be get good patronage.

108 years of Electric operations on IR~   2519 blog posts
Re# 2172029-59            Tags   Past Edits
Ideally, one power car is enough, but an EOG van is still needed for backup in case the HOG fails. And IR is modifying the existing EOG vans to be used as power cars for HOG, instead of building separate dedicated power cars. And there are restrictions on having passengers in the coaches containing diesel generators, as the noise and the danger of fire accidents are much higher in these coaches. So, even the under-slung generator coach that IR was testing, is only a Guard-cum-parcel van and not an SLR.
Another thing affecting the change is the lack of passenger-cum-guard LHB coaches. This was not required until now as all trains always had EOGs at the
...
end. But now, with one EOG removed, there is no provision to deploy a guard at the rear of the train.
To solve this problem, IR is now deploying EoTT devices ( End of train telemetry devices) on it's trains. These devices will monitor the rake continuously and directly let the driver know in case of rake-parting or any other mishap. This will remove the need to keep the guard in the last coach of the train and he/she can now be present in any coach in the train. And in case of HOG trains, there can be only one EOG van and the guard can monitor the rake even while sitting at the head of the train.
ICF CBC SLR's cannot be used for 2 reasons. First reason is their speed restriction to 110kmph, which obviously isn't sufficient for the high speed LHB trains with 130kmph clearance. The 2nd and more important reason is the difference in the electrical and brake connections for LHB and ICF coaches. Because of this, it is not safe to have a passenger-filled coach freely trailing behind the train as the ICF coach's brake pipe system would not be compatible with the LHB coach's system. Even a EOG style ICF coach can not be used in this case.

Kewal DFC me nahi Sabhi Fright trains me guard ki post ko hata ker isi technology ko intoduce karne ka irada hai. Passenger trains ko leke aisi koi charcha nahi hai, BTW mostly har desh k passenger train me Guard hota hi hai kahi use Conductor kehte hai to kahi kuch aur.

Yes, it was being developed for the DFC, but IR was also evaluating it's use on mainline freights. In the context of HOG trains it was mentioned that the devices would aid the guard and LP in monitoring the train. But as the other member said, I am quite skeptical about it's introduction in passenger trains. It's just a lot of speculation for now. Nothing is concrete until it actually materializes on the DFC.

I guess both eog will be kept as we can't connect HOG power to coaches directly..I guess voltage hgher than 440V is supplied by HoG...so EOG are needed for stepping down the voltage...
Correct me If I am wrong...
