shf and lhf stands for short hood front and long hood front respectively...
in single cabion locos, where there is just one place to sit for loco pilots, the cabin is situated not at the centre but at one end of the loco. if that end lies in the direction of loco movement it is called shf or else lhf...

in the first pic the loco if coming towards camera is in lhf mode, if going towards back is in shf mode...in pic 2, the loco is in lhf mode...

The SBC-ERS Inter city was delayed for about 3 hrs after an Over Head Traction wire snapped near Erode on Thursday 4th April.Subsequently The Kovai Exp, CBE Duronto and other trains also delayed. The Rly officials said that if the wire got snapped when the train was passing and fell on the coaches, it would have resulted in a major accident. But the Railway workers spotted the hanging wire and stopped the power supply quickly averting a major mishap.
The reason for wire snapping was not known and detailed investigation was ordered.

yes, ED has only 4 platforms. Usually PF1 receives the trains from CBE side to Salem/Dharmapuri side and PF2 serves vice versa. PF3 receives trains from CBE side to Karur side and PF4 serves vice versa. PF3 and PF4 also used to redirect trains from KRR to switch engines and make them to run towards Salem/Dharmapuri side.
