Awesome Great trip dairy Nice writeup.
TRIP REPORT - 22324/ER GCT KOAA (GAYA - BWN)
Trip report for my journey done along with our IRI member & friend Mr.Amit Kumar Singh (Bhilai) on 17th December 2016 (Saturday) from Gaya.Jn to Barddhaman.Jn
Reached Gaya.Jn station at 05:40 Hrs, spotted Mumbai Mail arriving at pf#01 along with a WAP-7 HWH, while we moved along with our luggage on pf#02-03, it was 05:45 Hrs but still no announcement or name over display board then heard a shrill sound of horn along with bright headlight, yes that was our train to board -
...

much hyped 22324 Shabd Bhedi Express over pf#02 but along a red WAP-4 HWH. Still there was no announcement nor coach position displayed over pf, we hurried on to our coach that was S6 33LB, 34MB, 36LB. As soon as we got seated over berths finally the announcer woke up to announce this trains arrival, that too with very unpleasant hoarse sound but by that time train was already rolling! I would say I was very much disappointed by this poor behaviour at such important station! Well after departure train started gaining speed it was very cold outside & a bit foggy too! After passing Paharpur we started slowing down for upcoming Gurpa - Gujhandi Ghat section ahead, which was a new experience for me as in past journeys this section was passed during night time. I took out the cellphone & starting recording the section admist chilly cold winds, which literally froze my hand of it's warm blood, but still kept on with railfanning! At this section we crossed many trains which were re-scheduled from Kolkata side, at Gomoh.Jn we overtook a train. Arrival at Dhanbad.Jn was very early at around 30 mins from it's scheduled arrival over pf#01. We hopped outside over platform to get some tea & snacks, we over train too vendors were selling tea, but we preffered station tea & samosas (singara). We cheched the loco link again to take some front snaps but due to presence of large numbers of RPF guys & instead returned towards backside & Ranchi Shatabdi Express arrived at pf#05 with a WAP-7 HWH. While departing saw a WAM-4 MGS over pf#02 with some Passenger service awaiting to depart. Till Asansol run was good just at one place we slowed down to cross Maithoon river, thereafter straight halt at Asansol.Jn. At Asansol ELS saw couple of WAP-4's, WAG-7 & twin WAP-7 (probably new). halt at Durgapur.Jn was short & sweet over pf#04. After that we started sorting out over belonging to alight at next halt that was at Barddhaman.Jn while Amit was to alight at Kolkata Terminus (Chitpur). Prior to entry at BWN we were kept waiting at outer while a WAG-7 JHS hauled CONCOR rake was slowly in parallel direction overtooking us, but withinn some moments we were given to proceed to finally overtake that freighter & I was just waiting to board BWN CHORD EMU. Arrival at Barddhaman.Jn was over pf#05, we bid farewell to Amit & ran to buy tickets, finally when arrived saw HWH CHORD EMU had already arrived over pf#04. We boarded EMU & I finally dozzed off over window seat & proceeded to have cubersome journey till Dankuni.Jn.
Thank you for reading the trip report & positive feed backs expected!

Ok... so you got the privilege to take snaps of this newbie train at Gaya, Dhanbad, Asansol, Durgapur and Bardhamman... all biggie stations covered between Mughalsarai and Kolkata for this train. Nice snaps... did your train slow down at GMO or skipped at a decent speed since track renewal work was going on over there some months ago ? :)

Pic 23 is Barakar river bridge is sort of border that marks end of Jharkhand and beginning of West Bengal. With KMME (my home station) in Jharkhand and Barakar station in WB. Besides as this train goes to KOAA its route must separate from Dankuni JN so it would halt for signal or something. I have once seen SDAH Rajdhani halting there. So u could have debaorded there. In case it didnt halt there was no way but to come back from KOAA by bus or train.

The Most spectacular view that one can have while onboard 12382, (I mean not only this frame, but the entire Ghat Section never lets anyone to pass without making them say "WOW") There are more scenic captures available on internet of this majestic ghat section (Including Mount Mahakassapa, you know that by a yellowish appearing Temple situated at the Peak of that mountain). But this one is my best of my mobile's camera, It is not like that my camera has reproduced the exact same beauty, but it is only 10% of the radiance of that area, after all, Experiencing the scene by physically being there gives an extra touch and feel where all the factors combines and make you feel like at heaven.

Travel Tip: Never sleep after Dhanbad when your train is passing through stations like Bholldih, Nimiaghat, Guraru, Paraiya, Gujhandi, Dilwa, Gurpa, Paharpur, Manpur, Dehri-On-Sone, Sasaram and Babhua Road since these areas are well-known for insurgency and robberies on trains. Kindly stay vigilant during sleep mode also when your train passes through these stations after Sunset... thanks!!!

I can understand as it's the force from UP that knows about anti-social elements from neighboring states entering into their state... jurisdiction issues are always a problem that such gangs take advantage of and this loop-hole of the law needs to be filled :-p

Yes... cities like Varanasi and Mughalsarai fall into UP's Chandauli District that shares State Borders with Bihar so an element of security risk always prevails.... the political situation in Bihar can escalate it's law and order problem even more.... God save us (Common People of India) :-/

Yes in plain and simple terms they referred to them as "Bihari Gangs". I actually got only my passport back after a month which was found by a Buddhist Monk in Gaya. By then I had got my new passport from US Consulate at Chennai. I still keep it as a souvenir.

Sorry to know about all these thefts. While carefulness is surely needed, chaining of our luggages is also a must. Furthermore, we should not be careless in any place thinking it is safe.

Ascending up the Gurpa- Gujhandi Ghat section in the Chota Nagpur Hills: ASR- SDAH Express
.
.
Almost 5 hours late running 12380 Amritsar - Sealdah Superfast (Jalianwala Bagh/ W.B. Sampark Kranti) Express headed by 22565 Howrah shed WAP-4 cruises past the Grand Chord line and in the process approaches the Gurpa- Gujhandi Ghat Section while crossing the Chota Nagpur Hills enroute. After Paharpur

comes the station Gurpa, from where the tracks stard climbing up the gradient. And in the video, the same is seen. The Ghat section comprises of numerous huge curves, small bridges and viaducts, three tunnels and an awesome scenic environment. But due to area being a good hunting ground for the Maoist, the lines have either TSR or PSR placed all over. It is the reason why the train moves at a moderate speed of around 60- 80 km/hr. Though the Ghat section is not steep enough for the requirement of extra locos for passenger trains, but freights move with an additional loco, which does the duty of a banker while ascending, and braker while descending. Location falls on the border of Bihar and Jharkhand. While Gurpa falls in Bihar, Gujhandi falls in Jharkhand.

YouTube Video Description: "A full journey compilation aboard India's fastest train (when the journey was undertaken, this honour was with the Bhopal Shatabdi), the 12260 New Delhi Sealdah Duronto Express, which covers the 1,453 km distance between New Delhi and Kolkata in a mere 16.5 hours, at a frenetic average pace of 89 kmph, with a maximum permissible speed of 130 kmph.
The fourth part of this compilation captures the Duronto's progress over the 117 kilometres between Son Nagar and Paharpur in Bihar. The Son River had necessitated a reduction in speed and our Ghaziabad WAP7 furiously accelerate through the large yard at Son Nagar and notch up to a 130 kmph in about 3 minutes, covering the next 5 kilometres
...
after Son Nagar in approximately 3 minutes. Our speed however is arrested soon after due to speed restrictions at Anugraha Narayan Road which we skip at a sedate pace.
We return to our merry ways soon after and thunder towards Gaya through the rugged plains of south-eastern Bihar, as some WAP4 hauled train screams past near Phesar. My father woke up around this time and as I updated him about our progress, the Duronto blazed through Rafiganj at 130 kmph.
The hills of south-eastern Bihar start dotting landscape after Rafiganj as we cross the dry beds of the Morhar river and enter Gaya, covering the 85 kilometres between Dehri-on-Sone and Gaya in 58 minutes at an average speed over 85 kmph.
The station of Gaya is located on a stunning S-curve, parallel to a small hillock. Trains entering from the western side undertake a massive left-hand curve, draw adjacent to the station, and subsequently, exit through a right hand curve past a small hillock and onto the bridge over the perennially dry Phalgu river.
The Gaya-Gurpa stretch is dotted with a number of small hillocks forming the backdrop of a lovely plain, as the Chhota Nagpur Hills slowly announce their arrivals. The soil slowly changes colour from yellowish brown to a richer hue of red as we cruise past the stations of Manpur, Tankuppa and Paharpur towards Gurpa, from where the Chhota Nagpur Range starts, covered in Part V of this compilation."

I feel that this route can qualify for 160 Kmph MPS but the following points need to be considered:-
.
1) Elimination of all Manned and Unmanned Level Crossings
2) Upgradation of the Signalling Systems (Many LPs prefer Diode Signals than MAC as per some online news reports)
3)
...
Track Upgradation (Probably ballast less and concretized at some points)
4) Fencing and/or Barricading of stretches (field areas)
5) #EDFC
6) Automatic Door LHB Coaches + ACD Fitted WAP-5 Loco
7) Removing curves, PSR and TSR
8) Fencing of Bypass Tracks on pass through stations en route
9) Strengthening of all small, big and medium sized bridges
10) Possible renewal of OHE Poles and Catenary wires
11) Weekly inspection of track and electrification conditions on the route
12) Real Time GPS Monitoring of the train(s) through GPS and other modern systems
13) Proper communication of the train with other trains and stations en route
14) Allocation of the track block ahead of the train for free and prioritized passage
15) Vigilant staff training at places like pass through stations and cabins en route for proper proceed signalling, especially during night time
16) Modern Fog dispensing system during winters and smog

YouTube Video by Mr. Ritadhi Shankar & he says: "A full journey compilation aboard India's fastest train (when the journey was undertaken, this honour was with the Bhopal Shatabdi), the 12260 New Delhi Sealdah Duronto Express, which covers the 1,453 km distance between New Delhi and Kolkata in a mere 16.5 hours, at a frenetic average pace of 89 kmph, with a maximum permissible speed of 130 kmph.
The fourth part of this compilation captures the Duronto's progress over the 117 kilometres between Son Nagar and Paharpur in Bihar. The Son River had necessitated a reduction in speed and our Ghaziabad WAP7 furiously accelerate through the large yard at Son Nagar and notch up to a 130 kmph in about 3 minutes,

covering the next 5 kilometres after Son Nagar in approximately 3 minutes.
