Same kind of pressure can be brought for NGP-VSG train also, not a big deal. Any how we have still slots open for 9 am dep from Vasco, other than Mondays and Fridays. But here the scenario is different, CR want to connect Konkan MH with Vidarbh, so they are least interested to divert this train via Miraj.

It is a big deal actually. Because, it's not just SWR alone that has to be convinced. The Railway board has been instrumental in putting restrictions on the ghat sections. The new train came up because of the train's destination being the Railway minister's home region and the need for the government to placate the politicians from AP who have been demanding for a special status for the state and a new railway zone. Several things just worked in the train's favor and it was introduced. I don't mean to be discouraging, but the new train's introduction was nothing short of a miracle. Unless the RM manages to persuade the RB once again, it is unlikely to see the ghat section opening up again. Even if it does, pretty much SCR and SR are the only zones with enough clout to force such a decision.

It's not a matter of the slot being free. In the ghat routes, it's about number of services operating per day. So, even if the operating slot is free, there might be more freights running on that day completing the quota for that day. So, it will not be possible to introduce a new train just if the slot is free. Even for the new VSG-TPTY/HYD train, SWR was complaining that it had to cancel 2 freight slots to allow the new train.

They do use AEB locos, but the fact is that if the safety features in the rolling stock fail, then there is no scope for salvaging the situation. A few years ago, there was a freight derailment ( I had come across the wagons lying beside the tracks on a hike to Dudhsagar) on the route between Castle Rock and Dudhsagar. Luckily, the wagons did not run off the edge of the hill because they just happened to derail in one of the few safer sections on the route. This is the danger that the railways are keen to avoid with passenger trains.
While the gradients are the same, both routes are quite different. The Bhor

and Thull ghat routes are quite easily accessible as they lie close to the highway or other towns and in addition, they are built on less treacherous terrain. A quick glance at the Braganza or the Shiradi routes makes it apparent that these routes are very precariously laid, and also the main ghat sections are quite isolated. This makes track monitoring and maintenance an absolute nightmare. A lot of things have to be set up before these routes can see more traffic.

Very good elaboration, but now freights being reduced. Is it not possible to start few more trains on the route, as RM from same zone and Vidarba(NGP) being MH CM's home, can't they pressurize same way as AP did for recent train. Rather what i suspect they wanted to connect Ratnagiri region to Nagpur than short route.

The problem with CR trains is they only care about serving Konkan Railways. That's why no CR train terminates at Vasco. Till now Vasco has no connection to Mumbai inspite of repeated demands. Don't understand what keeps CR and other zones from running trains till VSG. Is it KR playing games here ?
Goa Rajdhani, Goa SK, Jan Shatabdi ?

Fine. What about this then?
**"I've traveled reasonably lot on KR and they have huge nylon nets to catch falling rocks. I've touched those nets and they are quite flimsy and do not inspire any confidence. It is quite scary."**
Why post such nonsense by lying that you have touched the nets and that they are made up of nylon and then later object on everyone's post and cry foul? Are you a liar?

Agree that Indian Railways takes austerity measures but can't agree that they will use Nylon like material to catch falling rocks!!! This can't be true.

sir they aren't exactly used to catch rocks, more of like hold them in place in case they get loose.
the power of uncontrolled nature cannot be stopped by anything _/\_
the actual process of netting goes beyond putting up nets, it involves reducing the slope of the rock cutting by excavation too so that rolling rocks have lower momentum.
just in case you

Margao: The roll-on, roll-off (RORO) service of the Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) has earned a revenue of Rs.73.16 crore in the year 2014-15, up from Rs.67.2 crore that it earned in the financial year 2013-14.
The RORO service which is unique to KRCL enables carrying loaded trucks directly on railway wagons. While 55,921 trucks were carried through the RORO service in 2014-15, altogether, 3,66,403 trucks have so far been transported through this service since its inception in January 1999, data obtained from KRCL sources indicated.
Konkan Railway operates RORO service on three

sectors along the route: Kolad-Verna, a distance of 417km with a delivery time of 8-10 hours, Kolad-Surathkal, a distance of 721km with a delivery time of 21-24 hours, and Ankola-Surathkal, a distance of 205km with a delivery time of 3-5 hours.
Vouching for the popularity of the RORO services, KRCL’s senior manager, public relations, Baban Ghatge, said that it has helped the railways “to get back the piecemeal traffic which had got diverted to the road sector”.
“Introduction of RORO services has been a win-win situation for railways, road transporters as well as the nation. The service ensures on time and intact delivery, free of any road risk factor and without multiple handling of consignments. At the national level, this service helps to conserve precious fuel, decongest national highways and reduce the pollution levels along the route,” Ghatge said.
RORO Services KonkanIn Goa, Verna is the lone point along the route for loading and unloading of consignment for the RORO service. “The transporters prefer this mode of transportation as it works out quite economical for them, in terms of savings on fuel and labour and vehicle maintenance, apart from faster delivery, thus translating into more profits for them,” Ghatge added. While marble, tiles, clothes etc are some of the types of goods that arrive in Goa by RORO, items like areca nut, fertilizers, rubber sheets, spices, etc are transported from Surathkal.
Ghatge explained that the RORO model has proved successful for the KR as the service requires no additional infrastructure or investment for the railways. “For RORO operations, no goods-shed or depot is required, only a ramp at the end of the loop line with approach road is adequate,” Ghatge said.
