You can get down at Kannur or thallaserry from where U will get buses towards Wayanad, but most of them are towards North Wayanad. @first blogger: is ths netravathi belongs to southrn railway??But y the numbr 6345 is frm ltt - tvc,not vice versa..Hw it hapnd??? Is it possible to reach munnar by evening after traveling netravatti express , i will reach ernakulam by train at 2.30 pm (if train reaches in time). @first blogger: The distance is about 130 Kms. Can reach, pls. @S K Jain*: Jan 25 (09:07PM) I dont think it is possible because to get out of the town through the block itself will take 1 hour and the driving the hill road through ghat section with hairpin bendswill consume a lot of time. i think you will reach at Munnar around night. Wish U a Happy journey. @anon: Jan 26 (09:32AM) Sir, yes - it is not a straight road and blocked road of the city will further increase the travel time. Still, at 2:30 (afternoon) what duration do you think the city-crosing should take and also, after that what will the travel time duration till Munnar through the Hilly and U-turning roads? @S K Jain: Feb 02 (08:43PM) I meant traffic block in the city, and have you ever experienced traffic jams in the Ernakulam city? if so i dont think U will recommend. and what about the train it is always late atleast 30 minutes. @anon: Feb 02 (09:01PM) Train delay is not to be considered, please. The Blogger had already written "(if train reached in time)"; so we need to reply taking into consideration of no delay in arrival. For my sake, please give appx. Hrs./minutes for crosing the city area in the afternoon timing and than to reach Munnar. Thanks! @S K Jain: Feb 03 (09:16PM) If you are determined to reach Munnar in record time and you are traveling in a reasonably good car, it takes about 4 hrs from Ernakulam which is approximately 136 km away. The Ernakulam - Munnar route extends through Thripunithra, Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam, Neriamangalam, Adimali and Pallivasal. Distance Chart: Munnar - Ernakulam (135km) 4 1/2 hours Munnar - Thekkady (110km) 4 hours It will take another 30 to 45 minutes to get out of the city in the traffic. These lines are from Wikitravel.com Munnar is 140 km (about 3 hours) from Kochi. Remember to budget a good 6 hours if you are driving up or down, since the road is blind in some places and there are a lot of trucks and buses that seem to drive as if they own the road. Although the road is smooth (NH 49), it is narrow, twisty and curvy. Make sure you have a litte meal before you drive to Munnar on these roads, otherwise the next thing you will see on your dash-board will be your last meal! Kothamangalam is on the way and is 80 km away from Munnar. Between Kothamangalam and next town "Adimali", you can experience a beautiful cool drive through a natural forest. Alongside, you can see many refreshing waterfalls. @S K Jain: Feb 02 (09:16PM) Please add this also to the above posting Once you reach Adimali, Munnar is just 30 kilometers away - but it will take almost an hour to reach. Around 22 kilometers from Adimali, you can start seeing the tea plantations on both sides of the road and a panoramic view of the western ghats. The view is extremely beautiful during the early mornings Thanks @first blogger: Dear Sir, Better to get down in Alwaye(Aluva) which is the closest railway station to Munnar and before Ernakulam also. You will get taxi as well as lot of private buses are running between Alluva & Munnar. It is a direct state Highway ie A.M. road (Aluva-Muunar Road). You can save at least 2 hours.. Best regards JAYAN @anon: Feb 03 (10:31AM) Dear Jayan what about Angamaly. I think Angamaly is better option(not sure) somebody told me. Can U pls give suggestion Thanks Ajayan Mumbai @anon: Feb 03 (11:36AM) Dear Ajayan, 6345 doesn't stops at Angamali. Aluva-Munnar frequent bus services are there. Regards JAYAN Thanks a lot for your tips. I will surely follow all thease things. I am travelling by this train on very first time. My departing date is 7 May 2010 from Panvel to Alleppy, which is quite in summer On top of that i got Sleeper coach tickets. I want to know, is this travel is boaring in summer season? or anything hectic regarding this travel? Please advise or tell experience. SK. @first blogger: Like all trains in summer, they are crowded & hot. The journey can be made simple by carrying Oranges, bananas, tea cakes, curd rice with a bit of pickle, as this food does not get you bloated up. Avoid non-veg & eggs as they give out heat. Now, we dont want to further warm up the hot compartment, do we? WATER IS EQUALLY IMPORTANT. Take plentyful Home drinking water, even if becomes hot, its still home water. Water on trains/pantry cars seem cold, but only the bottle will be cold, not the water inside. If you like to read, carry whatever you like. In afternoon when its really boiling, nothing more distraction to heat than a favourite novel. Once train passes out to Karnataka, things will be better. And as you head South, there will be a welcome change, a home comming, as trees abound in this GODS OWN COUNTRY. hAVE A NICE TRIP. Is there any bus or train option for kanyakumari from trivendrum & from where i get buses. please guide me. @first blogger: Kanya Kumari is 80 Km from Trivandrum. You take the train to Nagercoil. Then a Bus to Kanya Kumari. There are frquent buses. Train you can try the Quilon-Madurai Passenger. Get down at Nagercoil Jn Then Take a Bus . But the Bus Stand is away from Railwaystation. Auto you have to Pay HAeavy. @first blogger: Hi..are you in netravti express started from lokamanythilak to tvm on 03-jan?..can you please call me on 0922-568-0616 or 09895888370 urgently..I am not able to contact my father from yesterday night who is travelling in same train..Please call me urgently..Lots of THANKS in advance... @first blogger: The best option from TVc to CAPE in the evening is to take an Bus from TVC to Nagercoil NCJ changes buses from there to CAPE. There are buses every 5 minutes from TVC to NCJ and NCJ to CAPE.The advantage of taking buses from TVC is that you have to just walkout of the station and you will find the bus station . @anon: Jan 04 12:46PM i am extremely sorry but i am travelling at 13 th january. @anon: Jan 03 12:56PM extremely thanx for your help. @dt bng: Jan 04 01:34PM extremely thanx for your help. This train must stop at Thane,Panvel,Mangaon,Ratnagiri,Kudal,Madgaon,Karwar,Murdeshwar, Byndoor,Kundapura,Udupi,MangaloreJn.,Kasargod,Kanhangad, Charvattur,Payyanur,Kannapuram,Kannur,Thalassery,Vadakara, Kozhikode,Parpanangadi,Tirur,Kuttipuram,Shoranur Jn.,Thrissur, Divine Nagar,Aluva,Ernakulam Jn.,Shertalai,Alapuzha,Ambalapuzha, Harippad,Kayankulam Jn.,Kollam Jn. and Trivandrum. My dear this train stops on almost all stops you have mentioned. please check train details before any suggestions Ajayan Mumbai I just read a blog on the internet that the AC coaches in the Netravati Exp are infested with cockroaches. It is so bad that it is not only difficult to sit peacefully through the journey, but having meals is an equally daunting task. I am travelling on 2nd January '10 and am now very scared of the journey. Also the food is reputedly very bad. Does anybody have any first hand reports on this @anon: Dec 02 06:57PM Food is not that bad. Only thing is this train is always full. Prabhakar G Kammath @Prabhakar Kammath G: Dec 02 08:24PM Thanks for the information, but do you know anything about this cockroach report. Is it really so bad? Would appreciate your feedback. This is the first time I'm travelling on this train and on this sector and i am quite excited and full of anticipation. Would love to hear your experiences of what to really look forward to on the journey. Ashok Rane @anon: Dec 03 10:39AM not really that bad. @anon: Dec 03 10:39AM Mainly this train travels through the konkan railway with beautiful scenery with the rainfall just gone. have a nice journey @Prabhakar Kammath G: Dec 03 10:46AM Not just this train. Many trains have cockroaches. Recently we were coming from Mumbai to Chennai by Chennai express. there were a lot of small cockroaches making the journey somewhat fearful, especially for kids and ladies! Kalakad S S Mani @anon: Dec 03 10:50AM I guess small cockroaches are a way of life that we need to accept given the conditions where the trains are parked and the platform conditions. Large cockroaches menace as mentioned on the blog would really be a bother. One expects the train staff to maintain some level of hygiene and use repellant sprays prior to start of the journey. Or am I just dreaming? Thanks for the inputs. Would love more inputs on the actual journey and the places to look out for and of course which place to eat what. Like we used to have the Batata Wadas at Karjat on the Mumbai Pune route. Thanks in advance. Mumbai, Ashok Rane @first blogger: Be happy u have the seat. I am desperate for two on Jan 2 and can't find a single one. Please extend this train towards Kanyakumari. This train must not stop at Roha,Kudal,Thivim, Karmali,Kankona,Kumta,Murdeshwar,Bhatkal, Byndoor,Kundapura,Surathkal,Kanjangad, Cheruvathur,Payyannur,Kannapuram, Parappanangadi,Kuttippuram,Cherthala, Ambalappuzha,Harippad, etc. This train must be a superfast train no.2477/78. Don't allow a stop even on Holidays at Divine Nagar. This train must stop at Bigger Stations. It will be my first long journey to south from Netravati Express. i Want to know that is any special things or item to be kept during travelling.Or what necessary item to be kept during travelling. Please reply. Rohan enjoy your journey on the Nethravathi. Please remember to carry your camera along, as the train route passes through some beautiful regions of India. The camera may help you capture some of that for relative posterity. Also keep cash handy for that yummy breakfast (assuming the train stays on schedule, which it mostly does in the non-monsoon seasons) at the Karnataka-Kerala border region stations. Depending on how far you are travelling, you will get to see the entire length of the state of Kerala from your train window, a rather unique treat. Other than that, just relax and enjoy the journey. Eco It will be my first long journey to south from Netravati Express. i Want to know that is any special things or item to be kept during travelling.Or what necessary item to be kept during travelling. Please reply. Rohan i have booked the ticket of oct 27 but my ticket is waiting list 67 should it will be conform i hv got w/l 67 in sleeper for 27/10/09 for netravati express, is there any chance for getting confirmed by the day of travel Is this train departure going to be preponed starting 1-Nov-2009? cANT SAY NOW. is hq quota still available sunil i hv got w/l 8 in both 2 a.c. and 3 a.c. for 17/10/09 for netravati express, is there any chance for getting confirmed by the day of travel. yes i have booked ticket in sleeper for 30 oct, 09 and got RAC 80 ,is there any chance to get the conform seat. it will be done dnt worry Regards, Raj :) My wife has some knee problem making her making it impossible for her to use the Indian toilet. I have now booked her to travel by Netravati as some people have suggested that the Train is equipped with western Toilets in the A/C three tier compartment. Please confirm whether the above is true. Dandapani All trains having both type of toilets. yes its truly fun yes dear you will get the intented facility, anway it's really funny question. don't mind pl. I have booked 3Tier AC for 26th september departure, I am on a wait list of 2,3,4 what are the chances of getting this confirmed Surely your tickets will be at RAC and if luck favours you will be confirmed after charting. Thanks indeed it got in to RAC, however I did not take a chance and got the tickets in tatkal i need to go to devine nagar from mumbai which train i need to take or does the train halt at devine nagar or which station is close to it. Nethravathy express and Garibrath are the trains from Kurla. There are other trains passing through Vasai or Panvel whichever is convenient for you. The nearest station is Thrissur . There is also station called Divine nagar but i think there is no stop for long distance trains. Nethravathi Express will HALT at Divine nagar station on Friday, saturday & sunday, nearest older station is Chalakudi Hey can anyone suggest if the waiting list is between 1-10 will the ticket get confirmed? How can I reach from BCT to LTT take a W%R local to Dadar . swict over to Dadar Central and take a local to kurla. kurla terminus is LTT I want to go to Vailankanni from Margao. Plz Help I want to go Velankanni By rail from karmali, by netravati express whch station will be the nearer one This info is given on the assumption that you have to go to Velankanni Church in Tamil Nadu near Nagapattinam. Take any train to Bangalore. From Bangalore take 6232-Mayiladuthurai Express to Mayiladuthurai which leaves Bangalore at 1915 hrs and reachest Mayiladuthurai at 0715 hrs. From there Velankanni is approx 50kms travel by bus which are quite frequent. Alternatives are - get down at Thanjavur & go to Nagapattinam which is approx 85 kms. All major stoppings after trichy like Thanjavur, Kumbakonam and Mayiladuthurai have frequent bus connections to Velankanni. Netravati express travels in West Coast i.e from West to SouthWest, whereas Velankanni is in South East Which is opposite direction. - so Netravati is not at all suitable. Any other faster route, if available, can be given by other bloggers. Thanks for the very helpful reply. I didn't ask the question originally, but still your reply has helped me a lot. i have booked 4 3 a/c tickets in tatkal for 26 may waiting is 21 22 23 24 any chances of getting it confirmed absolutely no chance. It is better not to book with these high numbers in tatkal, at least. Even ordinary wL are not confirmed in these numbers. Sir, I have booked 2 2A waitlisted general quota ticket for travel on 20th may 2009 for Netravathi Exp. Now my Status is 27 and 28. Any possibilities for confirmed Seats? Plz advise Thanks i have a ticket for 01.05.09 now the waiting list is 180 will it be conform which class you have booked for? sorry boss better u go by walking or catch a rickshaw from mumbai I can’t forget the hot vadas and pazhampori served in Netravati. I had very nostalgic feeling about this train, as I had travelled at least twice in a year with my parents, wife and daughter. I used to get down at almost every stations to feel the beauty of Konkan belt. I don’t know when I can have that feelings again, as I am now settled in New Zealand. But sure, I will certainly do that again one day……….. oh really u seem to be rght but the noise irritates doen't it? 14 12 2008 in Netravathi express, all ac 3 tier are very bad wel yes man u can find roaches in d compartments, but travelling so fun tht it doesnt matter to me.......... Happy Travelling thru Konkan....... 12.55 pm it has written. Is it correct. Unable to understand is it in day time (noon) or night time. It has been a cool journey whenever I travelled in it between 1996 to 1999... Initially it was not in Konkan route.. those stoppages at Guntakkal.... for lunch... those moments of breeze on arrival in Kanchikode....the feel of our native place..was cool.. it was all when Iworked in Bombay..now I am settled in Dubai... Wish to board it another time next year | 10 halts between Mumbai Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and KarwarMake sure to visit the official site and double-check the timetable.
