Not only these two quotas un-used tickets, but all unused quota tickets under specific quotas are in one stroke released at appropriate time before chart timing to General WL passengers. There are two ways WL passengers get cleared -
i) One by way of release of unused quota as mentioned above.
ii) Second by way of ticket cancellation by passengers holding confirmed tickets / RAC tickets - Cancellation in General quota tickets are applied to General WL passengers and Cancellation by Tatkal ticket holders are applied to Tatkal WL passengers.
And thus, some passengers of both category passengers get accomodation based on the above system.

RLWL clearance is against cancellation in RL ticket quotas. No RL tickets from the origniating point. PQ category has its own quota and hence its own PQWL and confirmation is vis-a-vis cancellation in PQ. May be noted that GN tickets are bifurcated into GN, RL and PQ and so GN Wait list includes GN, RL and PQ. However the WL clearance might be going like this ... RLWL to RL seats , PQWL to PQ seats.

this train takes diversion from VASAI ROAD (BSR) to PANVEL (PNVL).
If you are staying in mumbai be prepared to get down at BSR at unearthly hours.
as from there you can reach any part of mumbai by taking first Churchgate bound local from virar.
If you get down at PNVL you'll have an option of cabbie as well as spend 2+ hours by sitting in Harbour EMU to CSTM.

The problem is on part of maintainence.Every other day there is information about spats between the staff and passengers.They simply dont pa any heed.I myself have given 2 3 complaints to the train superidendent through the journey but who cares !!
Govt is not aware of the agony the passengers face insde the coaches.1st maintain the interiors then go 4 promoting the train..

Yes, the TVC Rajdhani touches Panvel, which is near Mumbai, but will still involve changing trains to get to CST. NOT recommended. Also, since it is coming a long distance all the way from Trivandrum, it can get delayed even before reaching Madgaon.
Best day train is the 2052 Jan Shatabdi Express, from Madgaon to Mumbai CST. This is an end to end train from Madgaon to CST - your best option. You will have to travel by AC Chair Car. The train arrives at 11:20pm at Mumbai CST.

Definitely, you will get taxis. Since you are an international traveller, you will find that the taxi fare is quite affordable. However, the best way to go from Panvel to CST is to catch the famous Mumbai Local Suburban trains, which ply that route every few minutes. You will get the mumbai local trains from Panvel which will take you directly to CST. The only thing about the Mumbai Local is that there is an art to boarding the train, since the trains stop only for a few seconds - you have to be very fast. But, once you get into the trains, I think that is the best way to go from one place to another in Mumbai - very fast, convenient, and cheap. Also, remember to buy a ticket from Panvel to CST at Panvel Station.

Follow up to my previous post.
I think Hetul is right, taxi fare can be expensive, but whether it is affordable or not is a relative matter - I thought for an international tourist, it will not matter much. As for midnight taxi, I would like to remind the blogger at (8:53AM) that the TVC Rajdhani reaches in the evening around 6pm scheduled, so it will be evening - so taxis are still a viable option.
Also, note that you might consider the Mumbai Suburban Local option - fast train from Panvel to CST. Since you are a tourist, the Mumbai Local is an experience not to be missed. But, as I said before, be careful boarding the train, since they stop for only a few seconds.

The best option for you is Train #2134. It departs from Madgoan at 7:00 PM and reaches CSTM early morning 4:05. This trail will take you directly to CSTM (last stop), but runs only on Teusday, Thursday, and Saturday.

You can very well travel by Trivandrum Rajdhani and alight at Panvel. Rajdhani Express woud be very comfortable and quick as compared to other trains. Also you would be able to enjoy the great scenery as the train passes through hills and tunnels of the Western Ghats as it would be a day journey.From Panvel you can catch a local train To CST. As expressed by many bloggers that one has to be very quick while boarding local train, I would like to inform you that you dont have to worry about that. Panvel is the starting point for local trains and trains usually stop for 5-10 minutes here. Also CSt is the last stop so again no hurry in getting down with your luggage. You can take a first class local ticket to CST as it would be relatively empty as compared to the second class coaches. Else you can travel by any other train as suggested by many. 2432/Rajdhani is Trivandrum bound and hence that is train no. error.
There is no train Trivandrum Rajdhani/2431 on 14.3.2010 Sunday (from Madgaon to Panvel).
Without any hesitation, you can book the tickets in Trivandrum Rajdhani Exp (from Madgaon to Panvel) on 13.3.2010 one day earlier. Travel day being 13.3.2010 Saturday, there will not be rush at all in Mumbai Suburban Local trains. Take out first class ticket from Panvel to CSTM (you get enough time to board the train at Panvel and also enough time to get down at CSTM) Luggage will not give you any problem as the Sunday local train travelling is smooth and hassle free. Do enjoy the Mumbai Local train travel. Luggage if above 20 kg per person, buy extra ticket for luggage also.
As far as ticket booking is concerned, the better way is to ask any of your contact in Candolim (Goa) or anyone in Mumbai, who will book e-tickets for you. E-tickets can be printed out or saved in pdf format on computer also. Ask the person booking the tickets to e-mail the ticket to your mail id and then take a print out of the same. Id proof, passport you will have to show during your journey. Even if etickets are not mailed, you can collect it when you are in Candolim.

The local train, you may get on the same platform little after Rajdhani leaves the Platform. There are not many platforms at Panvel. For Local Train, Panvel is the starting point so no more hassles. Locat train tickets are easily available just at the exit point of the Panvel Station. No big queue for ticket and plz do not stand in the queue at all bcoz for first class local train ticket, it is direct and no standing in the queue. Wish you happy journey.

What I mean by direct and no standing in queue is that you can straight way go to any ticket counter for first class ticket.
The queue is only one which is for second class tickets. Ignore the queue and straight way go to any ticket counter and get first class ticket. If any person in the queue objects and tells you to come in the queue, just tell him that you want first class ticket. That's all. It is one minute job.
For boarding in Local train, just look at the Red & Yellow cross bars displayed outside on the first class compartment . Same Red & Yellow cross bars are displayed in the platform also indicating the position for first class coaches (Two - first class coaches in the train).
There are very few who buy first class tickets for local travelling bcoz of fare cost. eg. Panvel - CST in second class will be around Rs. 20/- while in first class it will be around 150/-.
There is no ticket booth on the platform itself. In case if anybody coming to receive you at Panvel, he can take out local tickets and your probelm is solved. Otherwise, go to the ticket window yourself leaving your wife on the platform with luggage and come back. Hardly 5 minutes job. Do not worry much as trains are available every 10 -15 minutes to CST.

Just for your information, you will not get local train from the same platform at which you alight from Rajdhani at Panvel station. You have to take the foot over bridge and cross over to the local train starting platform. The ticket counter is located very close to the platform and as told by Mr. Kapadia you do not need to stand in a queue if you are purchasing a first class ticket.

The Trivandrum Rajdhani which arrives on Friday 22.1.2010 @ 5.45 am scheduled time is the train which will be departing on 24.1.2010 on Sunday @ 11.00 am.
The arrived Rajdhani gets more than 50 hrs for restarting or even if the Rajdhani of 22nd Jan arrives late by 10-12-20-25 hrs, it will not have any impact on the Rajdhani departure on 24.1.2010 @ 11.00 am.
The fog condition is not severe at all @ 11.00 am and no question of any delay.

You have to go back all the way to Panvel for finding a quota. As you said, you are frequent traveller on this route, then you are definitely aware of other superfast trains on this route. I think, you do not need more advice on this matter. How is Rajdhani a convenient train from Goa to Ernakulam is a question to wonder ? Why bcoz the Madgaon dep time @ 12.45 pm and reaching Ernakulam Jn @ 1.45 am (night).

Sorry to say that now you are too late. Train has departed from Nizamudin and it will reach Vadodra at 22:30 pm and in between TTE checks and he does not found you on your seat then he will allot your seat to any wait listed passenger.
Very rare chance for you that it will be vacant when you board from Vadodra. If TTE alloted this berth to any other passenger then you have not any right to travel on that ticket. Please consult TTE before boarding the train.

There are certain number of berths on this train which are on quota between HZN and MAO only if 20 people cancel within this quota will all your tickets get confirmed . This train is already taking the shortest route. The suggestion to route it via Nagpur means an additional nearly 500 kms or so !! I am not absolutely correct in this. But is there sufficient load for Palakkad, or are you asking fo diversion. Then what route would you suggest? Please make some suggestions for this. Do Remember that Rajdhanis by their very definition (given elsewhere also) was to connect capital cities of the States with the Capital of India. More importantly where are the rakes available for running Rajdhanis? What about the people who are already using that train. Would their travel time also NOT increase ? What about the cost to the passengers. for everybody, including those going to TVC... how many can afford it? I welcome all suggestions, comments, casual remarks, censors, I won't take offense..

Rajadhani is Via Kottayam. After doubling it will shift to Kottayam from Aleppey. But It stop At Kollam and Kasargod

Whats wrong in asking stops in our state. Its Kerala Rajdhani so it should stop in important Kerala stops like Kollam, Allapuzha, Aluva, Pattambi, Tirur, Ferok, Payyanur and Kasargod. Why are other state people not developing us.

the idea given by 327pm blogger is already there in the case of SK Express. Trains originating from particular state (e-g) Kerala SK Express, it stops in major kerala state stops and after passing out of kerala does not stop in all major stations, barring a few for technical halts. that SK express is affordable for all, whereas rajdhani may not be affordable by all. it will be better to ask for a SK Express which will help more people to run in a route which can cater to a majority of people.

You can book in tatkal from 21/12 @ 08:00:00 AM onwards across the any PRS in country or you can make online booking also through IRCTC
but one point I will like to highlight it specially for you that this train is not having tatkal quota from BRC
You have to book it from NZM & change the boarding point BRC

2A 9 seats
So wish you confirmed bookings

while booking through irctc dont try to change boarding yourself, otherwise you will not be able to book tickets.
Book ticket first and then get boarding changed from any nearby PRS.
These problems are happening from 1st Nov onwards.

From the above blog I think you will be travelling in 1A class.
You can accommodate but do that with the permission of TTE because as per requirement on that time the tte may allot the berth to any other passenger.

as suggested by jiteshji, you may inform the tte and during day time travel with ur group, for night, you can go to your allotted berth for sleep. so you can enjoy with the group as well as be comfortable in your berth also.

i saaid get the recent position of your tickets from official site. if you are really so worried abt your wait listed ticket then WHY YOU BOOKED THE TICKET IN THE FIRST PLACE?? now you are asking about takal on 20th Dec. even railway minister can not gureentee you of a confirmed tatkal near christmas. it depends on the fingers of yor booking clerk at PRS counter.

to the 1st blogger - somebody has given a rude reply at 814pm on 23-11. Sorry for that.
In this website itself, you can see a tab - PNR Status - choose the tab and enter your PNR number printed on the left side of the ticket. Its 10-digit number. you will come to know the present position - for eg - yur WL might've come down a bit -like 16,17,18. check that.
The other way suggested was to check with official website of Rlys - indianrail.gov.in. You can chk PNR Status from that site also. Both are the same.
For tatkal tickets, it will be bookd 2 days before journey at 800 am. i.e. on 18.12. so you have to wait till 18.12 to book your tatkal tkt if need be. suggest wait till 17.12 - look for any drastic improvements & if not, book tatkal. another suggestion is to book tatkal by going to any nearest Ticket counter at the earliest on 18.12 and book yur tickets. The date of yr dep is in peak traffic period.
In all your blogs, you have never mentioned yr intended place of travel (from where to where). Pl mention it so that any blogger can give an idea of yr confirmaation. thanks and have a safe, pleasant journey.

It may be fast between the sections mentioned but it the slowest of all rajdhanis till date.It's average speed for entire journey is just 78 kms/hr.
According to the wiki the fastest train is the Bhopal Shatabdi at 150 kms/hr followed by the Mumbai Rajdhani.
This train does not even figure in that list of fastest 20 trains in India

The top speed of Bhopal Shatabdi is 150km/hr somewhere between Agra and Delhi.Its average speed is 93km/hr for the whole journey. Wheras this train has average speed of 163km/hr between Ratnagiri and Sawantwadi Road.So surely top speed would be atleast more than 163km/hr.So this should be the fastest train in India.
Also there are slower Rajdhani's like Jammu Rajdhani and Ahmedabad Rajdhani.

You did not mention your starting station and destination station.
In Rajdhani the rule is, you can not book ticket for intermediate stations. Either Source address of the Rajdhani train ( Here Nizamuddin ) or Destination address of Rajdhani ( here Trivandrum ) should be included in your booking.
As ex. you can not book ticket from Vadodara to Madgaon. It will show in Unavailable ...In this case You need to take ticket from Nizamuddin to Madgaon and keep Vadodara as a boarding.
I hope this will resolve your query.

The info provided by you is not right. You can book tickets from intermediate stations also, there is no boundation. This rule is only Duronto trains where you have to book starting stn to destn stn of the train.

Duronto is non stop train between Source to Destination, hence both Source and Destination stations are compulsory.
In Rajdhani, you need to include any one of Destination / Source.

This is my own experience and I also asked this to Railway inquiry as well.
I want to travel from Vadodara to Ernakulam in this 2432 Rajdhani. But I need to book ticket from Vadodara to Trivendrum.... Another example I can not take ticket from Panvel to Madgaon in this 2432 train. I need to take ticket from Panvel to Trivendrum...... or I can take Nizzamuddin to Madgaon, and keep Panvel as a boarding point...
Hence In Rajdhani
1) From Source Station to Intermediate station tickets can be booked.
( As ex Nizzamuddin to Panvel is allowed )
2) From Intermediate Station to Destination Station tickets can be booked.
( As ex. Vadodara to Trivendrum Tickets are allowed )
3)Tickets can not be booked from Intermediate station to Intermediate station.
( As ex. Panvel to Madgaon tickets not available )
You can try it out for any station for this train....

For Example
Just check this for
2429 Rajdhani Exp between BPL & JHS, you will find seats are available & you can do the booking also.
In this case neither BPL nor JHS is originating Stn or Destination Stn of the train.

Quality of food is very bad but snacks and dessert are OK.
You will get breakfast ,Lunch and Dinner as cost is included in ticket and these will be served around 8 am,12 noon,8 pm approx. In addition you get may soup etc around 11 am and snacks at 4 pm in the evening.
They just provide 1 water bottle per passenger and will not give more unless specifically asked for.

New time table is effective from 1st Nov 2009. As per new time table, Trivandrum Rajdhani's arrival is 01:45 AM at Eranakulam Jn and 05:45 AM hrs at Trivandrum Central. Due to odd arrival timings at Eranakulam Jn, I canceled my travel plans to Cochin and book fresh tickets to Trivandrum.

Three tier AC

It all depends for what purpose you are undertaking the journey. Kerala express has no 1st A/C. If time is the essence, then flight is cheaper than 1st A/C.

Food is included in the fare of 1AC Rajdhani. In Kerala Express, food is NOT included in the ticket price. You have to buy it separately from the pantry.
If you ask my advice, I would suggest go in Kerala Express. Ticket is cheaper. You get to enjoy 1AC longer. Also, you can buy good food from the pantry separately. As you can see on other blogs in this site, Trivandrum Rajdhani food is not very good. In Kerala Express, you can buy high quality food from the pantry and the stations. How much ever you spend on food, it will still overall be cheaper than Rajdhani ticket price.

2432 Trovamdrum Rajdhani runs between NZM & TVC
You can book it from NZM to TVC with boarding stn BRC(Vadodra)
But the method will be like this
In case you are booking from PRS Counter
mention the boarding pt BRC in reservation form & also ask the clerk to change the boarding.
In case of you are booking from IRCTC
you should keep in mind these points
1) If you are booking in Gen quota then plz also chekc the availability from BRC also because if you try to change boarding pt from IRCTC yourself the server will give you birth according the availability at boarding pt. So first check wheather from BRC seats are available or not.
a) In case seats are available from BRC then go ahead & book it
b) In case seats are not available from BRC then just book the ticket between NZM & ERS & go to the nearby PRS counter before 24 hrs of scheduled dep of train from NZM with a written app to Chief Res Supervisor asking him to change the boarding pt & also keep an original Id proff with you. He can change after verifying your app.
2) If you are booking in Tatkal quota then you can easily change the boarding pt yourself from IRCTC

What you say is 100% correct. But the real problem is to make an extra set of tracks in the hilly and rainy Western Ghats. Konkan Railway will have to call back the already overworked and aging Mr. Sreedharan (the original architect of Konkan Railway) to complete this task.

The reason why I mentioned this was that according to konkan railway' own admission initially the route was meant to be to a double track for entire 760 kms irrespective of the terrain hence they promised trains running at a commercial speed of 160 kms/hr but owing to cost escalations during project execution the final cost stood over 3500 crores (up from 700 crores) .This made them to go in for a single track

Yes, I agree. Mumbai Rajdhani food is excellent. In most respects, Mumbai Rajdhani is the true Rajdhani. Clean and shiny, fast, smooth ride, punctual, and good food.
All other Rajdhanis provide so-so food. But still, food is edible, not very bad. It will fill your stomach, and you won't fall ill.

it means that u will be provided seat in the train but u have to share it with one more passenger and the seat no will be provided after charting which will be done 4 to 6 hrs before actual dep. and for morning dep. charting is done day before

In this case RAC Nos. 3,4 have been confirmed and will get full berths. The other two (RAC 5,6) have improved their position to RAC 1 and 2. If 1 or 2 more persons cancel their ticket, your ticket will be automatically confirmed. Unless something extraordinary happens, these will be confirmed before boarding of train. kindly confirm with website or 139 for status, 2 hrs before boarding the train. All persons can travel as of now.

You will have to try Vasai Road (BSR). This does not come into BCT/CST/ etc....Best of luck

LHB is noy the ultimate. it has so many drawbacks like jerking, toilet,window etc. that the older ones seems good unless we consider a foreign mall better than ours.

I still cant figure out the obsession for LHB coaches. it has it drawbacks. but y this craze for this rakes like a child which asks for a thing which he does not even want but just asks.
LHB is good from outside, there are problems dost in the inside. So dont be crazy abut everything foreign.

Had your ticket been any other class, you could reasonably expect that the tkt will be confirmed. The process is : wait list->RAC-> confirmed. Keep your fingers crossed as number of berths in 1A is limited. However, I am inclined to hope that your tkt should at least be converted to RAC and confirmed subject to the release of quota by the railways a few hours before the train departure on the date of journey.

actually i think the problem is dat the soth bound raj like chenn raj,sbc raj and sc raj have better trains than raj to travel on hence the passengers choose those trains like ap express, tn express and k sampark kranti. I think thats why the railways do not waste extra money for LHB coaches....but they will have to in the near future

These so called AIRTEL Rajdhanis (chennai, TVC & Bangalore) are spoiling the prestigiuos image and name of RAJDHANIs in india. These trains are worst to travel compared to the Fare charged. Bogies are so dirty and gloomy. As soon as you enter the train, you feel that your money has gone wasted.
Compare these 3 Rajdhanis with Mumbai, August Kranti, Sealdah & other Rajdhanis which runs in North & Central side of india. Why New Coaches not provided to AIRTEL Rajdhanis? Just Because AIRTEL paid advt money? But this is spoiling the image of Indian Railway's prestigious train - RAJDHANI.....

KHAMOSH !!.. The food is excellent and even the cooks of Bukhara of Mauryas Delhi travel in this train to taste the food. And now Mamta Didi being our minister, the food will be even better.

But Secunderabad Rajdhani is a sharp contrast to airtel rajdhani(s).
The coaches are extremely neat and clean.Food served is quite good and often reaches its destination before time.

whats the use of changing a rake when its not going to be maintained by any division? if its cleaned regularly and water filled at regular intervals, the train may be clean. dont go by external appearances. even if LHB rakes is attached and no maintenance is done, the same problem wil be there. its not a question of lhb coaches but of maintenance. rlys should improve maintenance.

Why only Chandigarh? Is it the only place where people travel with elderly, children and baggage? There are other cities like Dehradun in northern region which will want extension of trains. Similarly there are many southern region people going to cities other than Delhi and catching connect trains from Delhi.
It is practically not possible for any rail network to provide trains for all possible stations in the netwok from all the stations and hence, connections are available. Take a Shatabdi to Delhi from Chandigarh and catch Rajdhani to any southern destination. I really dont see any issue here.

the issue is better connectivity between cities. after a 36 hr journey it kind of painful to wait for another connecting train. Plus account for the delays etc, the chances of missing a connection in such a long journey are more likely, than not. Also u need to send your request for extension to IR through official channels.

I think thr is no need to extend rajdhani , also not possible otherwise .... In my point of view , the already running chandigarh - kochuveli Kerela sampark kranti 's freqency should increase from weekly to atleast tri-weekly....... this is a long pending demand of people of this Union Territory.. So I think this is a better option than the other for both the parties !!

sorry , vivek i think u r new to indian railways. The most of the tickets(especially in ur case) gets confirmed only 4 hrs before the departure i.e when charts are made...... Actually indian railways reserve most of the tickets as tatkal , vvip quota (1st 2nd AC),vip(2nd 3rd) ,etc.. that when not required are converted to general , and allocated to the person like you who are in either RAC or W/L .......

don't worry. sometimes it moves in the last few days before departure. I don't know the reason why it is not updated continuously, but the wl/rac status sometimes moves in spurts and jerks.

Yes, RAC ticket-holders can travel in Rajdhani. You will have to share a berth with another passenger (till you get allotted a full berth by the TTE, if there is a vacancy)

what is rac half waiting ticket? either its RAC or Waiting List. RAC passengers can travel. WL passngr cannot travel.

RAC half, I think, means that some passengers on the ticket are RAC and others are still waitlist. Unfortunately, the same rules apply. WL passengers cannot travel in Rajdhani, but RAC can.
At the time of departure, if WL passengers are not advanced to RAC, then you will can cancel the WL passengers on that ticket, get a refund, and then use the rest of the ticket for the RAC passengers. Tough, but that's how it works.
